Notre Dame Football Schedule Analysis: This schedule isn’t close to fair, but Notre Dame brought it on itself. If it found a way to be a full-time ACC team it could’ve had it a whole lot easier than this nightmare.

There are five dates with the ACC – at Florida State, at Virginia Tech, North Carolina, at Virginia, Georgia Tech – and while there’s no Clemson or Miami, playing UNC isn’t fun the three road dates are all going to be challenging in their own ways.

The easiest non-ACC games are likely Navy – but that might change fast – and against a Toledo team that might be good enough to win the MAC. Those are hardly the normal layups.

Oh yeah, and USC is back on the schedule. And Purdue is making the trip up the road. And there’s that whole Cincinnati thing with just about everyone back. And if that wasn’t enough, the Irish go to Chicago to deal with Wisconsin. And if that wasn’t enough, the season finishes up in Palo Alto against Stanford.

Notre Dame Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 11-1. It’s an absolutely brutal slate, but take each game on its own merits and there isn’t any one the Irish can’t win. Wisconsin, Purdue, Cincinnati, at Virginia Tech, USC, North Carolina, at Virginia, at Stanford is way too tough a slate to get through cleanly, but if they’re that good, they can get close.

Notre Dame Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 8-4. It’s an absolutely brutal slate, but take each game on its own merits and … yeeeeeeesh. Forgetting all of those other tough teams, what if Florida State is solid again? What if the Navy option works on the right day, and what if Toledo just so happens to be this year’s power team from the Group of Five? Would you be that shocked if the Irish lost to the Badgers, Tar Heels, Trojans and dropped one other game?

Kickoff time set for Notre Dame vs. Boston College

Kickoff time has been announced for Notre Dame’s trip to Boston College this weekend as the Irish look to avoid an upset at the hands of BC.

This Saturday’s Notre Dame game at Boston College has an official kickoff time set after the Irish upset of Clemson last week.

Notre Dame fans will have to keep the majority of their afternoons free as the ball will be teed up at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be shown nationwide on ABC.

Notre Dame moved to 7-0 on their season with the upset victory of Clemson and is the only remaining unbeaten team in the ACC.

Boston College is 5-3 on the year after sneaking by Syracuse with a 16-13 victory on Saturday.

As you’re probably aware, last time Notre Dame knocked off No. 1 all the way back in 1993, they lost to Boston College a week later which ruined their national championship dreams.

ACC Football Schedule. 5 Things That Matter, What It Means, Who Wins, Who Loses

The ACC announced its schedule model for the conference season. It’s a ten-game season – with Notre Dame included – with five home games, five away games, and with each team missing four other ACC teams.

The divisions are gone for this season, and each team will get to play one non-conference game. The weekly schedule is coming out later.

5. ACC Football Schedule Announced. What It Means For You And Your College Football Life

The ACC thinks it’s playing college football this season. Start from there, be happy about it, and enjoy the moment.

It could’ve all gone the other way, and we could be talking right now about how the ACC and Notre Dame are cancelling the campaign.

Oh sure, it could all go kablooey at any moment, and it all might be totally delusional, but take a deep breath and pretend things are sort of normal.

There could be college football this fall, and if it happens, it could be fantastic.

The ACC model has five home games, five away games, Notre Dame is in the mix, and everyone gets one non-conference game. Fine. Great.

From the ACC announcement, here are the other key parts …

Every team has two open dates. That might not be enough time if a team has to take 14 days off, and there’s not a whole lot of wiggle room for rescheduling.

All the TV revenue is split. More on this in a moment, but Notre Dame gets to be part of the ACC fun as long as it gives the ACC a piece of the pie.

The ACC Championship will be between the two top teams based on conference winning percentage. For this year, with no divisions, the non-Clemson teams from the Atlantic have a real hope of playing for the ACC title.

Notre Dame Football Schedule. How Could It Change For The 2020 Season?

With Power Five conferences heading towards a conference-only format, what’s going to happen to the Notre Dame football schedule?

With Power Five conferences heading towards a conference-only format, what’s going to happen to the Notre Dame football schedule?

Notre Dame Football Schedule. How Could It Change?

The Big Ten announced that it’s going to a conference-only schedule for the 2020 season. That deprives the world of Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame in Lambeau Field in Green Bay, but that’s the only date that affects the Irish.

However, the other Power Five conferences appear to be ready to follow suit, if only to be able to have better control over their standards and protocols during the pandemic.

So what now for the Irish if their games with Arkansas, Stanford and USC are also cancelled?

Start with two basics here. 1) The ACC and Notre Dame relationship will only be strengthened. The Irish already play six games against ACC teams, and they’ll likely be included in as many others as possible, because 2) Notre Dame won’t be wanting for dance partners.

EVERYONE looking for a game will want to play Notre Dame.

So how will the schedule likely look? Here’s what it is now, and what it might be.

[jwplayer ipD5QeqP]

Aug. 29 at Navy

Best guess here is that this stays. The ACC already mandated that no fall sports will start before September 1st, and the American Athletic Conference isn’t going to want to lose one of the few prime games it will have left.

Sept. 5 OPEN DATE

Now is when the flexibility kicks in. If the ACC follows what the Big Ten is doing, it’ll come up with a ten-game season with the likelihood of several built-in breaks to move things around as needed.

In reality, that will likely mean that Notre Dame needs just two extra games to be scheduled with six ACC games set to go already, the Navy game likely, and – more in a moment – the Western Michigan game possibly still on.

And that also leaves open the possibility of …

Sept. 12 Arkansas

BYU would be a good fit here if the Arkansas game goes away. Don’t totally discount the idea that the SEC would still want this date, but assume that it’s off. If the Power Five leagues really do lock down, the SEC won’t want the Hogs traveling to South Bend.

BYU was supposed to play Michigan State on this date. If it’s not an ACC team scheduled here for Notre Dame, slide in the Cougars.

Sept. 19 Western Michigan

Sort of like the date with Navy, expect Notre Dame will still have this available. The MAC will want anything it can get with the outside world, and it certainly wouldn’t want to lose the game against the Irish.

If this is allowed by the ACC liability-wise, assume for now that it’s still on.

Sept. 26 Wake Forest (in Charlotte)

Done. Keep it, except it might not be played in Charlotte and could be at Wake Forest. If there aren’t fans in the stands, there’s no reason for the neutral site aspect to the game.

Oct. 3 Wisconsin (in Green Bay)

Game off. This stinks, because it would’ve been the most fun games of the season. This might be a week off since all the ACC dance cards are currently filled.

[lawrence-related id=515184]

Oct. 10 Stanford

Syracuse … let’s go. The Orange had a scheduled week off here, but they can have that on October 17th with the game against Liberty likely ditched. Virginia is the other possible option with a week off scheduled here.

Oct. 17 at Pitt

This works out perfectly. The Panthers have the week off on October 10th.

Oct. 24 OPEN DATE

Assume this is kept open with three straight ACC games set to fly right after it.

Oct. 31 Duke

Perfect. This is where everyone seemingly wanting time off to rest for the Irish pays off. Duke doesn’t play on October 24th and should be fine.

Nov. 7 Clemson

The ACC will do everything humanly possible to make sure this thing is on. Like Pitt and Duke, Clemson gets a week off before facing the Irish – it should be as healthy as possible.

Nov. 14 at Georgia Tech

There’s a shot this gets moved to November 28th if the Notre Dame-USC game doesn’t happen. The Yellow Jackets are supposed to play Georgia, but that probably won’t go. This is where both programs are going to need to be flexible.

[lawrence-related id=515894]

Nov. 21 Louisville

Like the Georgia Tech game for Notre Dame, this could be flexible, too. The Cardinals are supposed to play Kentucky on November 28th, and that could be the date with the Irish.

Nov. 28 at USC

The goal will be to keep this game open for any and all possibilities.

If the Irish need a tenth game – or more, depending on what the ACC tries to do – Florida State might fit since this is when it’s supposed to play Florida.

If needed, this is when BYU could slide in – it’s supposed to play at Stanford – or if things get desperate, New Mexico State, who doesn’t have a game scheduled.

75 days until Notre Dame football returns!

In 75 days Notre Dame football will again take the field. What better way to count down today than with a 75 yard touchdown against USC?

Congratulations, we’re a quarter of the way done since this countdown began 25 days ago in getting to the return of Notre Dame football.

75 days from now Notre Dame and Navy are set to play in Annapolis and although not everything will be right in the world by then, some normalcy will at least return.

Yesterday we celebrated Father’s Day and day 76 of the countdown by looking back at Allen Pinkett’s 76 yard touchdown run that helped upset No. 1 Pitt in 1982.

Today we look back just five years at one of the fastest players in Notre Dame’s recent history, making one of his more memorable plays in the blue and gold.

75: Yards on Will Fuller’s touchdown reception against USC in 2015

Outside of Fuller’s game-winning touchdown reception to save the day against Virginia in Week Two of 2015, perhaps his most remembered play at Notre Dame came early against USC that year.  Trailing 7-0 early, Fuller ran past everyone in the Trojan secondary and straight to the end zone after being found by DeShone Kizer.

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQfFKoaun5w&w=560&h=315]

Notre Dame would win that contest 41-31 over their biggest rival and move to 6-1 on the season.

Fuller would finish the year with 62 receptions for 1258 yards and 14 touchdowns before being selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.

93 Days Until Notre Dame Football Returns

In 93 days we will get Notre Dame football back. In the meantime, see what great play in Notre Dame history we look back on today!

Here come the Irish!

Well, in 93 days, anyway as that’s when Notre Dame and Navy are now slated to kickoff the 2020 college football season in Annapolis.

Yesterday we counted down 94 days with a look back at the Notre Dame vs. Navy series over the years.  Today at 93, we remember a highlight from an all-time game that ended in heartbreak for the Fighting Irish.

93:  Length of CJ Sanders kickoff return for a touchdown against Stanford in the classic 2015 contest

Watch it below:

Great game.

Except the last 30 seconds.

Enjoy your Thursday.

USC Rejoins Notre Dame & UCLA – Good For Them, I Guess

I’ll admit as a fan that I like that Notre Dame has never gone to the FCS level in order fill out a schedule and hope they never do.  At the same time I’m well aware that it really doesn’t matter when you’re scheduling a good amount of poor programs.

Three teams in college football history have never played an FCS foe.  By this time you’re probably aware that Notre Dame is one while the two Los Angeles schools, UCLA and USC are the other two.

It appeared that USC was going to come off of that list as they had a 2021 game scheduled against UC-Davis but plans have changed and that has been called off because USC announced Thursday they’re replacing UC-Davis with San Jose State and will remain the small group to never play an FCS opponent.

I get it before you even start to get your thoughts and remarks in.  San Jose State is not good.  They’re awful, in fact.  They’ve won an average of three games each of their last four seasons and don’t look like they’ll be turning a corner anytime soon.

I however also know to try and not throw stones while living in a glass house.  Notre Dame is on this list but has played traditional powerhouses like Massachusetts, Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green, New Mexico in recent years.

I’ll admit as a fan that I like that Notre Dame has never gone to the FCS level in order fill out a schedule and hope they never do.  At the same time I’m well aware that it really doesn’t matter when you’re scheduling a good amount of poor programs.

So good for USC, I guess.

Even if it really doesn’t matter.
