Notre Dame OC Mike Denbrock has an interesting comp for QB commit Deuce Knight

I don’t think anyone would mind if Knight turned out to be like this player

Although coaches aren’t allowed to speak about players until they sign with their schools, that doesn’t mean that they won’t talk directly to recruits about how they feel about them.

It seems like Notre Dame football offensive coordinator [autotag]Mike Denbrock[/autotag] really loves what he sees from 2025 quarterback commit [autotag]Deuce Knight[/autotag]. The future Irish quarterback is currently participating at On3’s Elite Series camp and got a chance to sit down with J.D. Pickell for an interview.

During their chat, Knight admitted that Denbrock has compared him to LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], who is just coming off winning a Heisman Trophy and being drafted No. 2 by the Washington Commanders.

It’s an extremely lofty comp, especially considering that Knight is still just a senior in high school. Either way, the expectations for him are sky high.

Two Notre Dame football commits have landed at On3’s Elite Series

Two of the Irish’s best commits together

As On3 continues to grow, they have focused on getting some of the best players from across the country to attend its event, the Elite Series.

Two of Notre Dame football’s 2025 commitments were invited, offensive tackle [autotag]Will Black[/autotag] and quarterback [autotag]Deuce Knight[/autotag]. The pair of future Irish players checked into the camp on Tuesday and not surprisingly they got together for a photo op.

You can see how massive Black is, standing 6-foot, 7-inches and weighing 295-pounds, although you wouldn’t guess that he was at that weight. As for Knight, he’s almost the same height at 6-foot, 5-inches while weighing 206-pounds.

Both are viewed as one of the best at their positions, as the 247Sports Composite Rankings has Black as the nations No. 199 overall prospect while Knight checks in at No. 45.

The expectations for each one of them is extremely high, and rightfully so. You can could us in as being very excited about their Irish future.

California 2025 athlete has set his Notre Dame official visit

The Irish will have one of the last visit for the impressive athlete

One of the biggest differences now that there are two signing days is that prospects have sped up the process, and Notre Dame football has done a great job of managing the new recruiting calendar.

With 22 commits, they’ve put themselves into an advantageous position to pick and choose who will be the final players that will be added. One of them could be California athlete [autotag]Dylan Robinson[/autotag], who has set his official visit dates.

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 190-pound two-way star will head to South Bend the weekend of June 11th, his third of four trips. A decision will most likely come shortly after, but that has yet to be announced.

Robinson could end up as a wide receiver, safety, or cornerback, it really depends on the schools preference. Either way, he’s ranked highly, as the 247Sports Composite Rankings has him as the nations No. 280 overall prospect and 10th best athlete in the country.

Hopefully the visit to Notre Dame goes well and Robinson will be joining the Irish 2025 recruiting class.

Notre Dame trending with 2025 safety who just set his official visit

The Irish are in great shape with the top safety prospect

Notre Dame football is continuing to look for the right final pieces of its 2025 recruiting class and it’s looking like North Carolina safety [autotag]JaDon Blair[/autotag] could be one of them.

The 6-foot, 4-inch and 190-pound member of the secondary has set his commitment date for July 5th, but before that he will make his official visits. One of those will be to South Bend, at the beginning of June, but there is more good news for both parties.

On3’s Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction for Blair to eventually commit to the Irish on Tuesday morning after getting a chance to speak with him.

Blair is viewed highly among recruiting circles, as he’s ranked as the No. 160 overall prospect and 13th best safety in his class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Could Notre Dame football’s newest commitment Mark Zackery play two sports in South Bend?

Another multi-sport athlete is heading to South Bend

It is not uncommon for Notre Dame athletes to play two sports, and on Monday was a perfect example of that as football and lacrosse star [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] helped the Irish win a National Title.

Luminary names like Jeff Samardzija and Cole Kmet played football and baseball, and Notre Dame’s newest football commit could follow in their paths. Indianapolis cornerback [autotag]Mark Zackery[/autotag] verballed to the Irish on Saturday, but not many know that he could potentially play basketball at the next level as well.

It has been reported by Notre Dame Hoops Recruits that Zackery and basketball head coach Micah Schrewsberry have been in communication about playing on the hardwood as well.

It remains to be seen if Zackery will actually play both in South Bend, but it does tell us how great of an athlete he is.

Notre Dame trending on adding 2026 4-star Florida quarterback Noah Grubbs

The Irish could be adding another elite talent to their quarterback room

One of the biggest differences in Notre Dame football’s recent recruiting success has been its pursuit of quarterbacks.

Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has put a major emphasis on stacking talent in that room, and has done a great job in doing so. The 2024 team might be the deepest the unit has been in a very long time, as starter Riley Leonard and his backup Steve Angeli are proven, while CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey bring tons of potential to the table.

As for the 2025 class, Deuce Knight is firmly committed and now the Irish seem to be leading the recruitment of 2025 Florida quarterback [autotag]Noah Grubbs[/autotag]. On3’s Steve Wiltfong made a prediction on Monday morning that the 6-foot, 4-inch and 190-pound signal caller would eventually commit to Notre Dame.

This would be a huge recruiting win for the Irish, as Grubbs also holds offers from other big time schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Colorado, Penn State and others.

Notre Dame football adds elite 2025 in-state cornerback

Another big-time member to the secondary is heading to South Bend

Notre Dame football did not have to travel for to recruit in-state cornerback [autotag]Mark Zackery IV[/autotag].

The Indianapolis native has long held the Irish in high regard during his recruitment and that paid off on Saturday as the 5-foot, 11-inch and 165-pound corner verbally committed to Notre Dame.

Zackery becomes commitment No. 22 for the Irish in the 2025 class, as it continues to be the top collection in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.

Notre Dame now has commitments from three of the nations top secondary members, as Zackery, who is ranked as the No. 135 prospect and 15th cornerback in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

There isn’t much room left in the 2025 class for Notre Dame, so they have to make sure any commitment they take going forward is a player they really want. Zackery fits that mold.

West Virginia, Notre Dame relishing being back at NCAA Men’s Golf Championship after long postseason droughts

A couple of long postseason droughts ended this year.

CARLSBAD, Calif. — It has been nearly 10 years to the day since Sean Covich took over the head men’s golf coaching job at West Virginia. The position the program was in then compared to now couldn’t have been more polar opposites.

Covich was hired May 22, 2014, to be the Mountaineers’ head coach. West Virginia was reinstating its golf team, and Covich was tasked with growing the program from nothing.

“They handed me a sheet of paper and said, ‘You’re the golf coach,'” Covich said. “I didn’t have an office. Didn’t have any players. Nowhere to practice.”

West Virginia last competed in men’s golf in 1982. Covich took over, and the team began playing in the 2015-16 season. However, this year, the Mountaineers reached a new peak: making the NCAA Championship.

West Virginia made the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship this year for the first time in 77 years and only the second time in program history. In addition, Notre Dame also made NCAAs for the first time since 1966, breaking a drought older than the coach’s at each school.

The response for Covich and Notre Dame coach John Handrigan have been incredible.

“It’s been wild, like gosh, I didn’t even know this many people paid attention,” Covich said. “My phone blew up.”

West Virginia shot 22 over during a difficult morning wave of scoring Friday in the opening round, but Covich said the start was easier to process considering all of the family and friends who were walking the canyons of Carlsbad sporting Mountaineer colors.

After advancing through regionals, Covich said the alumni and donors showed incredible support, but it was the messages from his coaching fraternity that meant the most. Messages from national championship winning coaches, top-ranked teams and conference foes came in.

“Those are the kind of messages that really mean a ton to me,” Covich said.

Handrigan said he wasn’t aware of how long it had been since Notre Dame had made nationals. He said John Anthony, a former player, pulled parents aside after the Fighting Irish punched their ticket to Omni La Costa, and told them that the team hadn’t been to the national championship since most of them had been alive.

“I didn’t know that at the time,” Handrigan said. “That’s when I knew we did something special.”

The Fighting Irish sit at 8 over after the opening round, having the second-best performance of teams who teed off in the morning wave.

Handrigan said his team, which features two freshmen in the starting lineup, has embraced playing on the biggest stage.

Even he had a hard time keeping up with messages from alums, boosters and fans. Notre Dame athletic director Peter Bevacqua is the former CEO of the PGA of America, so there’s plenty of love for the golf team’s success back in South Bend.

“He’s at the lacrosse final four right now,” Handrigan said. “He told me he really wants to see us out here competing next week.

“I look forward to seeing him here.”
