The NFL has announced the players nominated by each of the 32 NFL teams for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. One of the highest annual honors by the NFL, the award signifies on-field excellence and a commitment toward serving their communities off the field.

For the second consecutive season, the Kansas City Chiefs have nominated quarterback Patrick Mahomes for the prestigious award. The reigning league Most Valuable Player leads the club to an 8-4 record, sitting atop the AFC West. He’s completed 301 of his 444 pass attempts for 3,127 yards with 22 touchdowns and ten interceptions.

“The Chiefs organization and the Kansas City community could not ask for a better leader on the field and representative off of it, which is why we are honored to once again announce Patrick Mahomes as the club’s nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award,” Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt wrote, via press release. “Patrick, along with his family and his foundation, truly exemplifies the characteristics that this award represents. Since his career began in 2017, he has demonstrated an ever-increasing commitment to bettering the communities around him. Patrick uses his platform to help those in need, and we feel that he is more than deserving of this high honor. We believe Patrick and his family will continue to impact and empower communities across the country for years to come.”

Since entering the league as the Chiefs’ 10th overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mahomes has significantly impacted both on and off the field. In 2019, he established his foundation, 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, which has emphasized improving the lives of children with a continued focus on supporting health, wellness, and various communities in need of resources.

“It’s such an honor to be nominated again by the Chiefs as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year,” Mahomes said. “As a dad of two, it means the world to me to be able to provide opportunities and support to underserved youth, and my family and I are so humbled to be in the running for an award that means so much to the Chiefs organization and to our community. It’s crazy to see the way 15 and the Mahomies has grown and continues to make more and more of a difference for kids here in Kansas City, across Texas, and beyond. We know there is still so much work to be done, and we’re so grateful and humbled by the support that Chiefs Kingdom gives us and the foundation. It’s truly an honor to represent my foundation, Chiefs Kingdom, my family, as well as the Payton family and Hunt family.”

Mahomes will wear a Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year helmet decal through the end of the season, along with the other 31 nominees, in recognition of their accomplishments on and off the field. He won last year’s Nationwide Charity Challenge, extending the Chiefs team streak to three seasons.

Chiefs fans can support Mahomes by voting on X (formerly Twitter) using the #WPMOYChallenge hashtag followed by “Mahomes” or his Twitter handle. If Mahomes receives the most votes between Dec. 5 and Jan. 8 this year, fans can also vote by visiting NFL.com/ManOfTheYear. The player who gets the most hashtag mentions and online votes wins an additional $35,000 for their charity. The runner-up receives $10,000, and third-place will receive $5,000 for their charity, all courtesy of Nationwide. Packers issue reminder to nominate family, fellow fans for Green Bay’s FAN Hall of Fame

The deadline to nominate someone you know for the #Packers’ FAN Hall of Fame is on Friday, December 16th

The Green Bay Packers are actively seeking nominations for induction to their FAN Hall of Fame ahead of the December 16th deadline. According to a release from the team, Packers president and chief executive officer Mark Murphy nominated his mother, 95-year-old Nancy “Nanu” Murphy for the honor in order to drum up more enthusiasm from Green Bay fans.

The former Murphy published an essay on the team’s official website supporting his mother’s nomination in which he espoused all of the reasons she would be a worthy candidate. All nominations are to include an essay with a maximum length of 500 words that states the merits of each fan’s nominee, according to the release.

While Ms. Murphy is ineligible for the honor because of her relation to a member of the Packers’ staff, plenty of Green Bay residents who are not directly related to team members are sure to be ideal candidates for induction.

The nomination process is set to be conducted entirely online, though fans without internet access are able to mail their nominations into the Packers’ Milwaukee office.

The team will select 10 of the most outstanding nominations as finalists after the December 16th deadline, and fans will be able to vote for the winner on the Packers’ official website, with the winner being chosen by both the fan vote and an appointed selection committee.

When the winner of the honor is announced in February, they will receive four club-level seats to a 2023 home game at Lambeau Field, a $500 gift certificate to the Packers’ pro shop, and a road trip for two to one of the team’s away games next season.

If someone in your life is worthy of being immortalized in the Packers FAN Hall of Fame, consider nominating them before Friday’s deadline to give them a chance to win this exciting sweepstake.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce reacts to Walter Payton Man of the Year nomination

Kansas City is truly lucky to have a player like Travis Kelce representing the team.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce has come a long way in terms of his maturation since entering the league back in 2013. He’s become one of the most dependable players on offense, simultaneously strengthening his commitment to the Kansas City community through his 87 & Running foundation.

Fans learned yesterday that Kelce had been selected by the team as their nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, recognizing excellence and achievement on and off the field. It came as no surprise to Chiefs HC Andy Reid that Kelce had been selected to become the team’s nominee.

“I’ve had a chance to be here and watch him grow as some of you have,” Reid said of Kelce on Friday. “Just to see where he’s at now, the whole center that he’s working on right now is a beautiful thing for our community and for kids. I’m proud as heck of him. He does such good work in the community— like he does on the field. He’s got a good heart, man. A big heart.”

A total of five Chiefs players have been selected to receive the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award since its inception in 1970, back when it was merely the NFL Man of the Year Award. Among the most recent winners include Brian Waters (2009) and Will Shields (2003). On Friday, Kelce reacted to the news of his nomination, knowing that his name could soon be mentioned among those players.

“Man, I’ve been trying to fill a lot of shoes here in Kansas City, and one of them is all the unbelievable athletes that were before me, that made this community feel loved,” Kelce said. “[They] made this community feel appreciated knowing how much energy and how much love they bring on Sundays or Mondays or Tuesdays, whatever it is. Now, whenever we play a game, the Kingdom is always there and they’re always screaming their lungs out and we always have their support. So, getting in this community, showing that we love them too and we appreciate what they do and that we’re here to help and lend a helping hand when we can, that’s everything and that’s what the Chiefs stand for. You’ve seen it. It’s not just one guy here and there, it’s every single year you see everybody in this building trying to get back into this community.”

After the league announced the nominees on Thursday, Kelce took to Twitter to share his mindset.

Kelce elaborated on his stance on Friday, showing exactly just how far he’s come as a player and a person.

“Football is just a game,” Kelce said. “We’re talking about life and to be able to help somebody have a better future, being able to lend a helping hand so somebody has a better situation, that’s making a difference. I mean, granted, I can put a smile on somebody’s face by doing a touchdown dance on Sundays, but being able to actually help somebody in their situation in life and either like I said, help them do better for themselves or get help for them. That’s everything for me and to be able to be in a situation like I am playing for the Chiefs, being a professional athlete and having the influence I have, I feel like it’s a duty of mine to make sure that I’m helping out as much as I can, knowing that it’s a responsibility.”

Kelce knows that he has influence and that the way he carries himself on the football field and within the community can lead to meaningful change. He knows that his lasting legacy goes beyond what he accomplishes at Arrowhead Stadium. He also knows that he wants to be remembered for more than his performance on the field.

To be nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, well, Kelce seems to believe it’s a reflection of the way he grew up. It shows the positive impact that a community filled with love and compassion can have. It only makes sense that he’s doing the best he can to recreate that for his new home and perhaps influence the next generation.

“What that means to me is that my family, my parents, my community that I grew up in gave me the understanding that if someone needs a lending hand, you do that and you lend a hand for them if you have the ability to,” Kelce said. “It’s just, being prideful of who I am and knowing that I can put a smile on someone’s face by doing that.”
