Josh Jacobs set to change Las Vegas Raiders jersey number

Josh Jacobs to return to college No. 8 with Raiders in 2023

Former Alabama RB, [autotag]Josh Jacobs[/autotag], continues to ascend every single year he spends with the Las Vegas Raiders. In 2022, he reached new heights as he was crowned the NFL rushing champion by leading the league in rushing yards in his fourth season in the league.

Jacobs was the No. 24 overall selection in the 2019 NFL draft and chose to wear No. 28, the closest available number to his college No. 8. NFL rules formerly prohibited running backs from wearing specific numbers, including single digits and teens. However, in the last few years, the NFL has altered its rules to allow players to be more flexible with their numbers and will even allow players to wear No. 0 in 2023.

Today, the Raiders announced that Jacobs would be switching back to No. 8, which he wore while with the Crimson Tide. A very clean look for one of the best players in the league.

Jacobs was franchise tagged this offseason and has one more guaranteed year in Vegas, but he is a key part of the Raiders plan moving forward. The Raiders moved off of long-time starting quarterback, Derek Carr, this offseason, and with a new QB in the system, I think we will see even more of Jacobs this upcoming season.

When you start to list the best Alabama players in the NFL, there is no question that Jacob’s is firmly in the mix with guys like Derrick Henry or Minkah Fitzpatrick.

As for the rest of the Big 12, two other teams made the top 25. Oklahoma (No. 3) is the highest-ranked conference team and Oklahoma State (No. 11) also makes a major jump. Iowa State drops out of the poll after losing at home to Louisiana.

USA TODAY Sports gives its outlook on Florida’s 2020 season

With the release of the preseason Amway Coaches Poll on Wednesday, USA TODAY published season outlooks for each team ranked in the top 25.

With the release of the preseason Amway Coaches Poll on Wednesday, USA TODAY Sports published season outlooks for each team ranked in the top 25.

The Gators come in at No. 8, the same spot they entered the season at last year, after finishing the 2019 season ranked No. 7 after a victory in the Orange Bowl over Virginia. Here’s what they had to say about Florida in its quest for its first conference title since 2008.

8. Florida (11-2)

Points: 1,176. Previous ranking: 7.

Outlook: Dan Mullen will have starting quarterback Kyle Trask for another season after his unexpected emergence that saw the senior throw for 25 touchdowns. Could this be the year the Gators recover the division title from the Georgia Bulldogs? With key members on both sides of the ball gone, the capable underclassmen talent will have to step up. DBs Kaiir Elam and Marco Wilson lead the back of what should be a strong defense. A key to repeat last year’s 11-2 success, Mullen’s offensive line will need to create a better run game to take some pressure off Trask.

UF is currently scheduled to begin its season on Sep. 26, along with the rest of the SEC, and will play 10 conference games.

Seahawks land at No. 8 in USA TODAY’s final NFL power rankings

After an impressive campaign, Nate Davis of USA TODAY lists the Seattle Seahawks at only No. 8 in his final NFL power rankings of the season.

The Seattle Seahawks logged an impressive season, lasting into the divisional round of the playoffs before being bested by the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field to end their year.

Now that the Chiefs have been crowned league champions for their win over the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, it’s time to take a look at the final NFL power rankings to close out 2019.

Nate Davis of USA TODAY Sports, who often irks Seattle fans with his rankings, deems the Seahawks worthy of only the No. 8 spot.

“Their average margin of victory in 11 wins was 5.6 points, and they collectively outscored their opposition by just seven all season – suggesting HC Pete Carroll got absolute most out of a roster facing significant rebuild in trenches,” writes Davis, who lists the Saints, Vikings, Packers and 49ers ahead of the Seahawks in the NFC.

Power rankings tend to differ across media sites, but it’s tough not to argue Davis’ hit to Seattle is a little below the belt this year.
