2023 Women’s World Cup: England vs. Nigeria odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s England vs. Nigeria odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In the Round of 16, England battles Nigeria Monday. Kickoff from Suncorp Stadium is set for 3:30 a.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the England vs. Nigeria odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

England has a strong group stage showing, taking down Haiti and Denmark both 1-0 and then capping it off with a 6-1 win over China. It finished atop Group D, having scored 8 goals and allowed 1. It was just one of 3 teams to win all 3 matches. England sits 4th in the world per FIFA Women’s Rankings. F Lauren James led the team with 3 group stage goals.

Nigeria wasn’t quite as impressive, but it did enough to pull off an unlikely advance, sending home two top-25 nations, Canada and Ireland. Nigeria beat Australia, which won the group, 3-2. It had 0-0 draws in both of its other matches. Nigeria might have been an underdog in both matches against Ireland and Canada, but it left having tallied 10+ shots. It ranks 40th in the world.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -110 | U: -125)

England vs. Nigeria picks and predictions

Prediction

England 2, Nigeria 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

There’s just no value here. The books heavily juiced BOTH TEAMS NOT TO SCORE, currently at (-225), likely meaning they do not expect Nigeria to get on the board.

England has scored in every game during the World Cup and destroyed top-15 China in its last group stage match. Expect a rout here, but don’t place a moneyline wager as England (-300) is far too expensive.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-125).

Nigeria has a strong defense, and although it was dominated in possession by both Ireland and Canada, it still found a way to hold the two nations scoreless. Ireland was limited to just 1 shot on goal despite being ranked 22nd in the world.

Nigeria has allowed 2 goals through 3 matches and allowed a combined 4 shots on goal against Canada and Ireland. I expect England to come out on top, but it had just 2 goals in its group stage matches aside from the 6-1 thrashing of China.

Nigeria’s defense is its strength while England’s offense has struggled despite its continued winning. Ultimately, take UNDER 2.5 (-125).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Ireland vs. Nigeria odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Ireland vs. Nigeria odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In a Group B matchup, Ireland (0-2-0 / W-L-D) and Nigeria (1-0-1) meet Monday in the 2023 Women’s World Cup at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Ireland vs. Nigeria odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

With no points in the 1st 2 matches, the Republic of Ireland cannot advance out of the group stages, but it can affect Nigeria and its bid for the Round of 16. It’s been an ugly tourney so far for Ireland, falling 1-0 to host Australia, while Canada doubled it up 2-1 on Wednesday.

Katie McCabe scored at 4′ to give the Girls in Green the first lead of the tournament, and she was, in fact, the first Irishwoman to ever score in the World Cup.

Nigeria can win Group B with a victory in this 1st-ever meeting between the 2 nations. A 3-2 victory over Australia has the Super Falcons in tremendous shape to advance to the Round of 16 with a win or a draw.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -115 | U: -120)

Ireland vs. Nigeria picks and predictions

Prediction

Nigeria 2, Ireland 1

Moneyline (ML)

NIGERIA (+120) entered this tournament simply looking to advance to the knockout stages, but it now controls its own destiny and can win Group B.

Win or lose, Ireland (+210) is going home after this match, and it remains to be seen how interested it will be in simply playing spoiler against a nation it has no history against.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 2.5 GOALS (-115) might be the best play on the board.

Ireland has nothing to lose, and could be going all out trying to end its World Cup on a positive note. We’ll see how it comes out early on.

Nigeria is playing to win the group, and will be running wild trying to put itself into the best position. Neither side is particularly gifted in the defensive end. We saw a total of 5 goals in Nigeria’s win over Australia last time out, while Ireland cashed the Over 2.5 goals last time out in a 2-1 setback to Canada.

2023 Women’s World Cup: Australia vs. Nigeria odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Australia vs. Nigeria odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Australia (1 win, 0 draws, 0 losses) battles Nigeria (0-1-0) in the 2nd match for each Group B side. Kickoff Thursday from Suncorp Stadium is set for 6 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Australia vs. Nigeria odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Australia, without arguably the best player in the tournament, F Sam Kerr (calf injury), beat Ireland 1-0 Thursday. It had 4 more shots and 1 more shot on target. The winning goal was a 52nd-minute penalty kick by D Stephanie Catley. Australia did control most of the match, holding possession for 63%. It sits 10th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

Nigeria, which ranks 40th and is the lowest-ranked Group B side, drew Canada 0-0 Thursday despite being significantly outplayed on most fronts. It had 5 fewer shots, 2 fewer shots on goal and possession for a mere 33% of the match. Nigeria will also be without starting M Deborah Abiodun, who received a red card in the 98th minute of the opener.

Australia vs. Nigeria odds

  • Moneyline: Australia -210 (bet $210 to win $100) | Nigeria +600 (bet $100 to win $600) | Draw +310 (bet $100 to win $310)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: +110 | U: -155)

Australia vs. Nigeria picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 2, Nigeria 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

There’s not a lot of value here either way. Australia is a deeper and more talented side. Even without Kerr, it was able to win almost every facquet of the game against Ireland. Expect a similar match. With Nigeria down Abiodun, its midfield may take a hit, and even a draw isn’t worth the high payout.

If you are looking to play Australia, the better plan would be BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO (-190). Nigeria struggled heavily to get through on Canada and may again find it difficult against an Australian side that will be both at home and allowed just 1 shot on got versus Ireland.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-155).

Without Kerr, Australia’s offense should be able to produce, but asking it to score multiple times after it only netted a goal via a penalty kick in its opener is too much.

Similarly, its defense held firm, and Nigeria’s offense was nowhere to be found in its first match. Its defense didn’t have a one-off game. It has held its opponent to 1 or 0 goals in 5 of its last 6 matches.

Expect a strong showing from both defenses, just as they did in the 1st matchday. Take UNDER 2.5 (-155).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria vs. Canada odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Nigeria vs. Canada odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Nigeria and Canada meet Thursday in Group B play at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Kickoff from Melbourne Rectangular Stadium is set for 10:30 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Nigeria vs. Canada odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Nigeria is embroiled in controversy, as the team is in a dispute over failure to pay wages and reported broken promises. It’s possible that Nigeria could potentially boycott the match in protest, so that’s one thing to watch out for. Nigeria is led by F Asisat Oshoala, who won the Champions League trophy in 2022 while playing for Barcelona.

Canada is the Olympic champion from the most recent games in Tokyo in 2021 and is led by F Christine Sinclair. The team’s all-time leading scorer is making her 6th World Cup appearance. She has found the back of the net 190 times in 323 international appearances.

Nigeria vs. Canada odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:35 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline: Nigeria +800 (bet $100 to win $800) | Canada -280 (bet $280 to win $100) | Draw +360 (bet $100 to win $360)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)
  • Both teams to score?: (Yes: +130 | No: -180)

Nigeria vs. Canada picks and predictions

Prediction

Canada 3, Nigeria 0

Moneyline (ML)

It will cost you more than 2 1/2 times your potential return betting Canada (-260) straight up on the 3-way line. That’s too much risk, although the defending Olympic champs should get out to a quick start against Nigeria.

There is just too much turmoil to consider rolling the dice on the Africans for the upset bid.

The best bet is to take NO (-180): BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE?, as it is likely Canada records the clean sheet. However, my personal limit for a standalone wager is -180, so just pass if this line gets more expensive.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the OVER 2.5 (-115). The Canadian side is experienced, especially with Sinclair at the helm. The Nigerians enter this tourney in shambles and it remains to be seen if they’ll have their hearts in it or if they even take the pitch.

We’ve seen on-pitch protests before, where a team has stood around, allowing the other team to move down and score. That shouldn’t be ruled out, as the Africans could potentially make a stand in protest. Over bettors would love to see it.

Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball: Nigeria vs. Germany odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Nigeria vs. Germany odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball picks, tips and best bets.

In Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball action Tuesday, Nigeria and Germany play in a 9 p.m. ET tip-off at Saitama Super Arena. Below, we preview the Nigeria vs. Germany odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Nigeria, which pulled off a 90-87 upset of Team USA in an exhibition game leading up to these Olympics, suffered an 84-67 loss against Australia in its Group B opener. Obi Emegano was the bright spot with 12 points in the loss.

Germany suffered a 92-82 loss in its opener against Italy. College basketball and NBA fans in America will easily recognize Germany’s two best players, PG Isaac Bonga of the Washington Wizards, and former University of Michigan standout C Moritz Wagner. Those two combined for 25 points against Italy.

Nigeria vs. Germany: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Nigeria -185 (bet $185 to win $100) | Germany +145 (bet $100 to win $145)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Nigeria -4.5 (-110) | Germany +4.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 164.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Nigeria vs. Germany: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nigeria 84, Germany 77

Money line (ML)

Nigeria (-185) is a little on the expensive side, and I’d rather play the spread for a better value for a win by at least 5 points.

Germany could have easily won against Italy and could easily spring the mild upset here, too.

PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

NIGERIA -4.5 (-110) is a much better value laying the points against a German side that easily could have topped Italy but had a disastrous fourth quarter to turn a win into a 10-point loss.

Germany was sloppy in its opening game, turning it over 14 times, and it cannot do that against a Nigerian side which is much more talented than the Italians.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 164.5 (+100) is the lean, ever so slightly. Germany has two legitimate scoring threats in Bonga and Moritz, and then the drop-off is rather precipitous.

Nigeria has several options like Precious Achiuwa, Jahlil Okafor, Josh Okogie and Ekpe Udoh, who could give the Germans fits defensively.

Summer Olympics Women’s Basketball: Nigeria vs. USA odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Nigeria vs. USA odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Women’s Basketball picks, tips and best bets.

In Summer Olympics Women’s Basketball action Tuesday, Nigeria and USA play in a 12:40 a.m. ET tip-off at Saitama Super Arena. Below, we preview the Nigeria vs. USA odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Nigeria played the United States in an exhibition tune-up game in Las Vegas July 18, and the Nigerians fell by a 93-62 score. As such, they’ll be heavy underdogs in Tuesday’s group play opener.

Team USA is led by five-time Olympians Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, as well as WNBA standouts Brittney Griner and A’ja Wilson. It’s a star-studded roster which appears primed and ready to clean up against Nigeria, and the rest of the world.

Nigeria vs. USA: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

USA 90, Nigeria 61

Money line (ML)

The game is expected to be so lopsided that you cannot even bet Team USA on the money line, and it would be throwing money away backing Nigeria (+1600) for an upset. It isn’t happening.

AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

NIGERIA +30.5 (-120) lost by 31 points in the exhibition game in Vegas. As it stands, the books have set the line with a nearly identical number.

You can expect the African side to fall behind by quite a bit early on but chip away late as the USA takes its foot off the gas a bit. Nigeria will grab the backdoor cover.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 153.5 (-110) is the slight lean.

We had a total of 155 points in that Vegas exhibition, and that would have cashed the Over. Expect the nerves to be a little more on edge early on in this game, now that it is for real and no longer just a practice game.

Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball: Australia vs. Nigeria odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Australia vs. Nigeria odds and lines, with Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball picks, tips and best bets.

In Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball action Sunday, Australia and Nigeria play in a 4:15 a.m. ET tip-off at Saitama Super Arena. Below, we preview the Australia vs. Nigeria odds and lines, and make our best Summer Olympics bets, picks and predictions.

Australia has several current or former NBA players on its roster, including Aron Baynes, Matthew Dellavedova, Joe Ingles, Patty Mills and Dante Exum. Australia took care of business against the United States in a tune-up match. The Boomers have a lot of international experience, and that will help them shine through.

Nigeria also shocked Team USA in an exhibition game leading up to the Olympics. This team is led by former NBA head coach Mike Brown, and Josh Okogie and Jahlil Okafor are NBA veterans.

Australia vs. Nigeria: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 6:40 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Australia -400 (bet $400 to win $100) | Nigeria +300 (bet $100 to win $300)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Australia -8.5 (-110) | Nigeria +8.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 172.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Australia vs. Nigeria: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Australia 93, Nigeria 86

Money line (ML)

Australia (-400) will cost you four times your potential return, and that’s risky in the Olympic opener against a good Nigeria side which showed how dangerous it can be in exhibition play.

AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

NIGERIA +8.5 (-110) should be able to keep it within four buckets in this Group B opener.

Yes, the Aussies have a lot of NBA talent, but it’s not exactly like it has a star-studded roster. Australia has a lot of role players and its success depends largely upon its long-distance shooting, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 172.5 (-105) is worth a roll of the dice in this group-play opener. Australia has a solid perimeter team, and Nigeria should be able to find plenty of space in the middle and down low. This could be a very interesting end-to-end game.
