2023 Women’s World Cup: Sweden vs. Australia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Sweden vs. Australia odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

In the 2023 Women’s World Cup 3rd-place match, Sweden battles Australia in Brisbane Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 a.m. ET Saturday (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Sweden vs. Australia odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Sweden lost to Spain 2-1 in Tuesday’s semifinal, ending the match with just 37% possession and 7 fewer shots. It did manage 1 more shot on frame. The No. 3 team in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings started its World Cup with a 2-1 victory over South Africa, a 5-0 win over Italy and 2-0 win over Argentina to win Group G. Sweden then took down the USA in penalty kicks 0-0 (5-4) and beat Japan 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

Australia, one of two host countries, lost Wednesday’s semifinal 3-1 to England. The 10th-ranked team in the world beat Ireland 1-0 and Canada 4-0 in the group stage, losing to Nigeria 3-2. It still finished atop Group B and then Denmark 2-0 in the Round of 16 before ousting France in penalty kicks in the quarterfinal. While it did draw even with England in the 63rd minute via a goal from star F Sam Kerr, Australia failed to score again and finished with 42% possession and 3 fewer shots.

Sweden vs. Australia picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 2, Sweden 1

Moneyline (ML)

BET AUSTRALIA (+165).

Australia lost to England, but it had a better showing and should be more motivated in front of its home crowd. Kerr also looks healthy after a slow start to the tournament and will likely get a good chunk of minutes.

Australia had just 1 fewer shot on target than England while Sweden seemed to be dominated in most aspects of the game against Spain. Sweden beat USA in penalties and Japan 2-1, but it didn’t have the majority of possession in either.

Against Australia, a team with quality attackers, Sweden may again struggle to possession which should lead to fewer opportunities. Expect the side with basically a home-field advantage to come out on top. Back AUSTRALIA (+165).

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 2.5 (-125).

Sweden has gone Over in 2 of 3 knockout stage games while Australia has gone Over in 1 of 3.

Both teams had a 0-0 draw, but other than that match, each team had scored in every other knockout stage game. Australia has scored 3 goals in 3 matches with Sweden having scored the same amount.

Australia has gone Over this total in 3 of its last 5 matches, and it has arguably the best forward in the event healthy and capable of playing 90 minutes. Expect goals in this battle. Take OVER 2.5 (-125).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Australia vs. England odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Australia vs. England odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Australia and England meet Wednesday in a semifinals matchup of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Kickoff from Stadium Australia in Sydney is scheduled for 6 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Australia vs. England odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Both Australia and England are vying for their first-ever Women’s World Cup Final, so this will be a historic result regardless of the winner.

Australia edged France 7-6 on penalties in the quarterfinal round. The Matildas were outshot 21-15, including 5-4 in shots on goal, while France had a 52.0%-to-48.0% possession advantage, too.

England fell behind 1-0 against Colombia at 44′, but F Lauren Hemp smoked one past the keeper in first-half stoppage time to level things 1-1. F Alessia Russo struck at 63′ to put the Lionesses up 2-1, and that’s how things ended.

England will again be without F/M Lauren James, who was hit with a 2-game suspension for stamping a Nigerian player in the Round of 16. Ella Toone will presumably be the replacement in the midfield for the 2nd straight match.

  • Over/Under: 1.5 (O: -190 | U: +135)

Australia vs. England picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 0, England 0

Moneyline (ML)

Both of these sides should be quite nervous, as each club attempts to ascend to a level not seen before by a women’s side in their nation’s history. I expect to see a rather slow start and very few chances taken for the first 90-plus minutes as both sides play a careful match.

Through an uneventful full-time and extra time, it will reach a crescendo on penalties, where a winner will eventually be determined.

As such, play the DRAW (+210) for a chance to more than double up.

Over/Under (O/U)

Under 1.5 regular time goals (-190) is way too expensive. While I think we get a scoreless draw, I’m not willing to back that high of a number.

I like NO: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (-175) slightly better, although it’s still a bit too expensive for my liking.

In addition, playing TIE (+160) as the “result after 75:00 min” is a solid play, as well.

2023 Women’s World Cup: Australia vs. France odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Australia vs. France odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Australia battles France Saturday in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Kickoff from Brisbane Stadium is set for 3 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Australia vs. France odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Co-host Australia took down Denmark 2-0 in its Round of 16 match. It ended with the same amount of shots on frame and just 44% possession but still managed to finish its opportunities. Australia won 2 of 3 Group Stage games, topping the Republic of Ireland (1-0) and Canada (4-0) and losing to Nigeria (3-2). Superstar F Sam Kerr was hurt to start the tournament but returned vs. Denmark and should be set to play again Saturday. Australia sits 10th in the FIFA Women’s Rankings.

France is ranked 5th in the world and thrashed Morocco 4-0 Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals. France was among the more dominant teams in the group stage, taking down Brazil (2-1) and Panama (6-3) and drawing Jamaica (0-0). It is led by star F Kadidiatou Diani, who scored in the 15th minute against Morocco. It ended with 15 shots and held Morocco to just 1.

Australia vs. France picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 1, France 1

Moneyline (ML)

SPRINKLE DRAW (+230).

Australia is one of the best teams in the event with Kerr on the pitch. While it struggled to score against the Republic of Ireland, it did find a groove, averaging 3 goals per game over its last 2 group stage matches and netting 2 on Denmark in the Round of 16. Kerr’s pace should aid the side virtually playing a home match.

France has been just as dominant, but it has had a weaker schedule, blowing out Morocco and Panama. It drew Jamaica and barely edged Brazil.

While France seems like the better side, in front of many of its own fans and with Kerr back, Australia should put up a fight and there is plenty of value on the 90-minute DRAW (+230).

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS.

The total here isn’t my favorite play, but I do like BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (+100). Australia has scored in every game this World Cup with France only being held scoreless against Jamaica, a side that didn’t concede once in the group stage. Australia scored 2 or more goals on Nigeria, Canada and Denmark, all quality sides. Kerr’s form should only aid its attack.

France has tallied 12 goals in its last 3 games. Despite playing weaker sides, it still managed to get the ball in the back of the net. France also allowed 4 in the Group Stage. Australia will pose a larger challenge, but both offenses have proven to be lethal and should get on the board.

2023 Women’s World Cup: Australia vs. Denmark odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Australia vs. Denmark odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In a Round of 16 matchup, Australia (2-0-1) and Denmark (2-0-1) meet Monday in the 2023 Women’s World Cup at Stadium Australia in Sydney. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Australia vs. Denmark odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Australia ended up winning Group B, just edging out surprising Nigeria, which beat the Matildas in group play. Australia ended up notching 7 goals in the 3 games, while conceding just 3. The Aussies routed Canada 4-0 last time out, putting an exclamation point on the group after a slow start.

Australia star striker Sam Kerr has been unable to feature in any of the 3 games to date, as she has dealt with a calf ailment. It’s uncertain if Kerr will be able to play vs. Denmark. She was an unused substitute against Canada last time out.

Denmark ended up in 2nd place in Group D, just getting by China 1-0, falling to table-topper England 1-0, and beating Haiti 2-0.

The Danes have never won a World Cup knockout game. These teams met in an international friendly last year, with Denmark opening with the 1st goal, while Australia rattled off 3 unanswered markers to win 3-1.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: +130 | U: -185)

Australia vs. Denmark picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 1, Denmark 0

Moneyline (ML)

AUSTRALIA (-110) will have the home-pitch advantage in Sydney against a Denmark (+300) team, which is a big underdog, and a side that has never won a Round of 16 match.

The Aussies can win this one with or without Kerr, although the addition of the star striker would be huge against a Danish defense that has been extremely turgid during this tourney.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 2.5 GOALS (-185) should come through, although that’s a pretty heavy price tag. The Matildas did see 4 or more goals in each of the previous 2 matches, notching 6 goals while conceding 3. However, Denmark’s defense will offer a lot more resistance, and the stakes are much higher, too, so the intensity will be ratcheted up tremendously.

If you’re a little less on the conservative side, and enjoy adventure, consider UNDER 1.5 REGULAR TIME GOALS (+165) at plus-money. If this game ends in a scoreless draw, or a 1:0 decision either way in regular time, you’d be a winner.

In addition, under the “both teams to score and total goals” prop section, I like NO AND UNDER 4.5 GOALS (-150).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Canada vs. Australia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Canada vs. Australia odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In a Group B matchup, Canada (1-0-1 / W-L-D) and Australia (1-1-0) meet Monday in the 2023 Women’s World Cup at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Australia. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Canada vs. Australia odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Canada is tied atop the Group B table with Nigeria at 4 points. It played a scoreless draw against Nigeria in the opening match, and it racked up a 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland Wednesday. A win gets Canada through to the Round of 16, while it can also draw and receive help to get through.

Australia has 3 points, and is very much alive for the Round of 16. It needs a win, however, and it plays in Melbourne in front of its throng of supporting fans. The Matildas topped Ireland 1-0 in the opening match, and they were stunned 3-2 by Nigeria Thursday.

The good news for Australia is that captain Sam Kerr (calf) appears to be fit after missing the 1st 2 games due to a calf injury.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: +110 | U: -155)

Canada vs. Australia picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 1, Canada 1

Moneyline (ML)

Canada (+220) has the opportunity to go through, but Australia (+120) is obviously not going to make it easy for them. The Matildas are on their home pitch and they’ll be desperate trying to get the win, and get through to the next round.

DRAW (+225) is the best play on the board, and you can multiply your initial wager by more than 2 times in the process.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 2.5 GOALS (-155) is a little on the expensive side, but it’s a good play. Canada won’t be pressing too much, as it simply needs a draw to get through. Australia might have a little more desperation on the offensive end, especially if it finds itself behind late. But Under is the way to go, as goals should be at a premium in this all-important clash.

2023 Women’s World Cup: Australia vs. Nigeria odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Australia vs. Nigeria odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Australia (1 win, 0 draws, 0 losses) battles Nigeria (0-1-0) in the 2nd match for each Group B side. Kickoff Thursday from Suncorp Stadium is set for 6 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Australia vs. Nigeria odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Australia, without arguably the best player in the tournament, F Sam Kerr (calf injury), beat Ireland 1-0 Thursday. It had 4 more shots and 1 more shot on target. The winning goal was a 52nd-minute penalty kick by D Stephanie Catley. Australia did control most of the match, holding possession for 63%. It sits 10th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

Nigeria, which ranks 40th and is the lowest-ranked Group B side, drew Canada 0-0 Thursday despite being significantly outplayed on most fronts. It had 5 fewer shots, 2 fewer shots on goal and possession for a mere 33% of the match. Nigeria will also be without starting M Deborah Abiodun, who received a red card in the 98th minute of the opener.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: +110 | U: -155)

Australia vs. Nigeria picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 2, Nigeria 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

There’s not a lot of value here either way. Australia is a deeper and more talented side. Even without Kerr, it was able to win almost every facquet of the game against Ireland. Expect a similar match. With Nigeria down Abiodun, its midfield may take a hit, and even a draw isn’t worth the high payout.

If you are looking to play Australia, the better plan would be BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO (-190). Nigeria struggled heavily to get through on Canada and may again find it difficult against an Australian side that will be both at home and allowed just 1 shot on got versus Ireland.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-155).

Without Kerr, Australia’s offense should be able to produce, but asking it to score multiple times after it only netted a goal via a penalty kick in its opener is too much.

Similarly, its defense held firm, and Nigeria’s offense was nowhere to be found in its first match. Its defense didn’t have a one-off game. It has held its opponent to 1 or 0 goals in 5 of its last 6 matches.

Expect a strong showing from both defenses, just as they did in the 1st matchday. Take UNDER 2.5 (-155).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Australia vs. Ireland odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Australia vs. Ireland odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Australia faces Ireland Thursday on opening day of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in a Group B match. Kickoff from Sydney’s Accor Stadium — also known as Stadium Australia — is set for 6 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Australia vs. Ireland odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Australia received an automatic bid for hosting the World Cup — as did co-host New Zealand, which is in Group A. Nigeria and Canada join Australia and Ireland in Group B.

The Aussies are 5-1-0 (W-L-D) this year, going 2-1-0 in friendlies and 3-0 in winning the Cup of Nations tournament in late February. Their lone loss was a 1-0 setback to Scotland April 7, but they rebounded with back-to-back wins — 2-0 vs. England April 11 and 1-0 vs. France July 14. Their defense has been solid, allowing just 3 goals in the 6 matches.

Ireland is 1-3-1 (all friendlies) since January, most recently suffering a 3-0 shutout by France July 6. Ireland was also blanked in back-to-back matches by the USWNT 1-0 and 2-0, April 11 and April 8, respectively. The win came against Zambia, 3-2 June 22; the draw was a 0-0 result vs. China Feb. 22. Ireland finished second in Group A qualifying, posting a 5-1-2 record before defeating Scotland 1-0 in a 2nd-round playoff. Ireland scored 26 goals and allowed 4 in the 8 qualifiers.

Australia ranks 10th and Ireland 22nd in the Women’s FIFA World Rankings.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -140 | U: +100)

Australia vs. Ireland picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 2, Ireland 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Australia (-350) should benefit from playing on its home soil. The Aussies should receive an extra boost of energy from their fans. Plus, they have F Sam Kerr, arguably the best player in the tournament. She ranks No. 1 on ESPN’s best players of the World Cup listing.

Expect Kerr to help put on a show as Australia wins its opener. However, at -350, the price is too steep to back here.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+100).

Ireland has the talent to perform well offensively, but it hasn’t shown it over the past several years. As mentioned, the Girls in Green have been held scoreless in 4 of 5 games this year. Their final 6 games of 2022 involved shutouts with 4 matches ending in a 1-0 final. The 4 forwards Ireland brought have a combined 60 caps but just 10 goals, so it hasn’t been a strong offensive side the last few years.

While Kerr is incredible for Australia, the Ireland defense allowed just 3 combined goals in the 2 friendlies vs. the U.S. in April. Australia has gone Under this total in 3 straight games and has held its opponent scoreless in 4 of its last 6 games. The Aussies have 3 players on its backline with 100+ caps and GK Lydia Williams has 102 as well.

Despite Kerr’s excellence, BET UNDER 2.5 (+100).

2022 World Cup: Argentina vs. Australia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Argentina vs. Australia odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

We move on to the knockout stage of the 2022 World Cup, and Argentina (2 win, 1 loss, 0 draws) and Australia (2-1-0) meet Saturday at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan at 2 p.m. ET (FOX/Telemundo). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. Australia odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Argentina topped Group C, rebounding from a stunning 2-1 loss against Saudi Arabia in its opener. La Albiceleste ripped off a pair of 2-0 wins over Mexico and Poland in the past 2 outings to assert control of the group.

Superstar F Lionel Messi has managed 2 goals with an assist in his 3 matches to date, and M Enzo Fernandez has managed a goal and assist.

Australia was buried 4-1 by France in the opener, but it rebounded for a pair of 1-0 victories over Tunisia and Denmark to secure the 2nd spot in Group D despite a -1 goal differential.

The Socceroos have received goals from F Craig Goodwin, F Mitchell Duke and F Mathew Leckie through 3 matches in Qatar.

Prediction

Argentina 1, Australia 0

Moneyline (ML)

Argentina (-400) will cost you 4 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk. The public must have went hard on Australia (+1200) as Argentina was -490 late Friday night. Australia doesn’t really have the offensive depth to make a run any further than this match. Argentina has the world-class players, and Messi will at least carry it through to the Quarterfinals.

The better play is AUSTRALIA +2 (+100), as the Socceroos have shown it has the defense, posting 2 clean sheets. Argentina has 2 straight clean sheets, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 2.5 (-110) is the best option on the board.

Both of these teams have keepers who have posted clean sheets, and goals should be at a premium.

If you really like a little risk, play UNDER 1.5 (+270) for a chance to nearly triple up, but go with just a half-unit at most on that.

2022 World Cup: Australia vs. Denmark odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Australia vs. Denmark odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Australia (1 win, 1 loss, 0 draws) battles Denmark (0-1-1) Wednesday in Group D with kickoff from Al Janoub Stadium set for 10 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Australia vs. Denmark odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

This will be the final group stage match for each side. Australia advances to the knockout stage with any points.

Denmark would advance if they beat Australia by more than Tunisia beats France, which assumes the group leader loses to the team currently in last place in the group. Nonetheless, France may rest most of their key pieces. In all reality, with a win, Denmark should be in.

Australia lost 4-1 to France to kick off the World Cup and then beat Tunisia 1-0. It didn’t necessarily dominate that game though as Tunisia had 5 more shots and 2 more on target with 59% possession.

Denmark, a side that has drastically disappointed, drew Tunisia despite having 4 more shots on target and 62% of the possession. Denmark lost to France 2-1 on Saturday. They sit 10th in FIFA’s world rankings with Australia 38th.

Prediction

Denmark 2, Australia 1

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Betting Denmark at (-190) doesn’t make much sense given how they have played, but in a similar fashion, Australia might have won but didn’t look dominant against Tunisia.

Having been clobbered by France as well, backing the underdog Aussies at (+550) isn’t suggested either. Play the total for value in this battle.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (-110).

Denmark is 1-1 O/U this amount in 2 games, but in a 0-0 draw, they were still able to get 11 shots and 5 on frame. Denmark has had double-digit shots in both games.

Australia is also 1-1 O/U at this total, and they were dominated in possession by Tunisia, but still managed 9 shots. That type of play could be repeated, but if they allow Denmark 14 shots, chances are they concede a few goals.

Denmark has talent in their midfield with M Christian Eriksen and M Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, so possessing and getting into holes should be easy. Denmark has gone Over 2.5 in 6 of 10 games this calendar year.

2022 World Cup: Tunisia vs. Australia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Tunisia vs. Australia odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

To continue Group D group stage action, Australia (0 wins, 1 loss, 0 draws) will take on Tunisia (0-0-1) Saturday at the Al Janoub Stadium with kickoff set for 5 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Tunisia vs. Australia odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Australia, No. 38 in FIFA world rankings, entered the tournament after a 2-0 win New Zealand. Having 10 shots and a clean sheet in that win didn’t matter when they took on Group D favorite France to open World Cup play. Despite taking the lead with an opening 9th-minute goal, Australia stood little chance and lost the game 4-1.

Tunisia, ranked 30th in the FIFA rankings, has never emerged from the group stage in 5 previous World Cup appearances. They did get a 0-0 draw with Denmark to open up the tournament. Tunisia is not known for its attacking prowess, but it had more shots than Denmark (13-11) despite having just 38% of the possession.

Prediction

Tunisia 2, Australia 1

Moneyline (ML)

BET TUNISIA (+115).

This one is going to be difficult to call considering Australia is not an extraordinarily strong team as we saw in the 4-1 loss to France. Although they scored first, I do not see them being strong enough to defend this Tunisian squad.
Tunisia had double-digit shots on a solid Denmark side. Simply put, Tunisia looked like the better team in the 1st group stage match and has more high-quality talent on their side.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 2.5 (+130).

We know that Australia is capable of scoring — they shocked France in the 9th minute to put them ahead 1-0 — but the only goals I see Australia scoring are when a team is caught flat-footed. Their squad is just too weak overall and they will not be able to defend against an attack of any team.

Expect a healthy dose of F Wahbi Khazri who plays for Montpelier, a French team. Tunisia did enough against Denmark to show they can move the ball offensively, and this will be a much easier matchup.
