Everyone gets in the act as it is slime time at SoFi Stadium

Nickelodeon was ruling the day at SoFi Stadium for Broncos-Rams

The Nickelodeoncast of the Denver Broncos-Los Angeles Rams game on Christmas meant there was going to be plenty of fun.

There were hijinks thanks to the folks at Nick that included incorporating their characters and others into the game.

And there was slime … lots of it.

Even Ciara got into it before watching Russell Wilson take on the Rams.

Nickelodeon is breaking out the slime for Broncos vs. Rams on Christmas Day

The Rams will host the Broncos in a “slime-time” matchup on Nickelodeon.

In addition to being nationally televised on CBS, the Denver Broncos’ showdown with the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day will also air on Nickelodeon.

The game will feature Nick’s signature slime and plenty of animations added to players, fans, the field and just about everything else.

For the Win‘s Mary Clarke had this to say about Nick’s slime-time playoff game last season:

The biggest draw of the Nickelodeon broadcast is the wildly wacky graphics used to make it more visually appealing to kids. Specifically, the use of Nickelodeon’s famous neon green slime is featured in some form nearly every few minutes. …

Sure, the Nickelodeon broadcast may be cheesy — and filled with lots of slime — but it’s adorable fun at the end of the day. And really, isn’t that what we want out of our sports?

Here are some highlights from Nickelodeon’s game last year:

Sunday’s game will begin at 2:30 p.m. MT on CBS/Nickelodeon.

A.J. Brown gets slimed by Eagles teammates Quez Watkins and DeVonta Smith

Watch as Eagles wide receivers Quez Watkins and DeVonta Smith give A.J. the slime treatment after being named Nickelodeon Valuable Player for Week 8.

First-year Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown had a career day with 156 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the team’s Week 8 win over the Steelers.

Now ahead of the Week 11 matchup against the Colts, Nickelodeon rewarded the star pass catcher with his Nickelodeon Valuable Player award and his well-earned slime.

Brown was a good sport but wasn’t happy about all that slime landing on his cleats.

Did Nickelodeon rob Trevor Lawrence of an NVP Award?

It sure looked like Trevor Lawrence won NVP honors by a landslide.

It sure looked like Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was about to get a head full of Nickelodeon slime this week. Instead, the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson got the honor of NFL Slimetime NVP and doused his teammates in slime Wednesday.

Lawrence appeared to earn the award with a landslide victory, but did he really? Let’s investigate:

Lawrence won Nickelodeon’s Twitter poll by a mile

On Wednesday, Nickelodeon tweeted a poll with three candidates for this week’s NVP (Nickelodeon Valuable Player): Lawrence, Jackson, and Philadelphia Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith.

There wasn’t much voting happening until Jaguars fans caught wind of the poll and stuffed the ballot box with votes for Lawrence in the final hour before it closed. With less than 10 minutes left, Lawrence had close to 90 percent of the vote.

Then the poll vanished, the tweet was deleted, and Jackson was abruptly named the winner.

Jaguars fans were angry about what sure looks like a case of highway robbery, right? Well … not so fast.

It seems there was never a vote in the first place

First, let’s rewind. The NVP was created when Nickelodeon broadcast a playoff game between the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints in January 2021. During the game, there was a poll held on NFLNickPlay.com to decide the NVP.

Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky won the vote by a sizable margin, despite throwing his only touchdown pass of the game as time expired in the 21-9 loss. He even got a trophy for what was clearly fans voting for a joke winner.

It was a similar story during the playoffs earlier this year when Dak Prescott was named NVP after the Dallas Cowboys’ 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

While a public vote decided those single-game NVPs, that hasn’t appeared to be the case for NFL Slimetime’s weekly NVP, though. The list of winners last year — which included the Jaguars’ Josh Allen — was actually pretty reasonable. And that’s because there isn’t a vote at all. Nickelodeon picks a winner, tells the team, and a video is filmed before the award is announced.

When Nickelodeon tweeted the poll Wednesday, it seems they were just asking Twitter”s opinion on who would win. They’ve done similar tweets in the past without a workable poll.

So no, it wasn’t quite the travesty that it initially appeared to be. It’s hard to argue that Jackson, who threw four touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown in a 37-26 win against the New England Patriots, wasn’t a deserving winner.

Lawrence will just have to settle for being the AFC Offensive Player of the Week and keep fighting for a future sliming.

Kirk Cousins reminisces about Nickelodeon

Like all of us, Kirk Cousins was a fan of Nickelodeon

The Minnesota Vikings had plenty of reason to celebrate this week. Not only did they beat the Green Bay Packers 23-7, star wide receiver Justin Jefferson won the Nickelodeon NVP award.

After Jefferson won the award, head coach Kevin O’Connell got slimed in celebration after practice on Wednesday.

Heading into Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Kirk Cousins spoke to the media and the topic of Nickelodeon. Cousins wasted no time reminiscing about the network.

Having been a ’90s kid, it’s no surprise he liked the old-school shows. “Keenan and Kel,” “Rocko’s Modern Life” and “Angry Beavers” were all excellent. He also brought up Nick at Nite, which had slightly more adult shows with “Full House” being a staple for years. Cousins also made reference to “The Wonder Years.”

The funniest part of the interview was Cousins saying his teammates likely wouldn’t know any of the shows he mentioned.

WATCH: Justin Jefferson wins NVP and Kevin O’Connell gets slimed

Kevin O’Connell brings Slime Time Live to TCO Performance Center to celebrate Justin Jefferson’s NVP

For his performance in week one, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson won the NVP (Nickelodeon Valuable Player) award given to the best player each week. He earned the award over other finalists Patrick Mahomes and the Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

In getting the award, head coach Kevin O’Connell presented Jefferson the award and had an announcement for the team

“We’re going to go in between the fields and I’m always going to be the guy that gets slimed.”

We have talked a lot in this space about it being a new era and this is just the latest example bring the old Nickelodeon show Slime Time Live to TCO Performance Center. O’Connell bonding with his players has created a different atmosphere both in the building and on the field.

Seriously, how fun is this guy?

Best Nickelodeon show bracket: And the winner is …

The Rugrats win!

In the wise words of Tommy Pickles: Sometimes, a baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do.

And what the animated babies of Rugrats did in our ultimate best old-school Nickelodeon series of all time bracket was run the table and emerge victorious as a No. 4 seed, first defeating Rocko’s Modern Life, SpongeBob SquarePants and Hey Arnold! before beating Are You Afraid of the Dark and Legends of the Hidden Temple. All thanks to your votes!

Thanks to everyone for voting. Here’s the final bracket for you to look at to see how it all went down this past week:

Best Nickelodeon show bracket: Vote for your favorite in the final!

Which show is best?

It’s the babies versus the big giant rock known as Olmec.

In the final four of the ultimate old-school Nickelodeon series bracket, Rugrats took down Are You Afraid of the Dark. And Legends of the Hidden Temple eked out a victory over All That.

So you know what to do next. It’s time to vote for your favorite. Is it the cartoon? Or the game show? The Pickles or the Silver Snakes? Funny enough, both shows have been revived … but try to focus your votes on the series as they were in the 1990s.

Go below the bracket and cast your vote by 5PM ET!

Best Nickelodeon show bracket: Vote for your favorite in the Final Four!

And then there were four Nick shows!

And then, there were four.

We are down to the final four in our best old-school Nickelodeon series bracket, and thanks to your votes, there were some moves made in the Elite Eight.

Rugrats is the winner of the Animation region, taking down Cinderella pick Hey Arnold!

Are You Afraid of the Dark? defeated Clarissa Explains it All in the Live Action region.

I was shocked to see Double Dare go down to Olmec and Legends of the Hidden Temple, although I was a huge fan of both shows.

And All That was the only No. 1 seed to win any region, with a victory in Variety.

Time to vote for the Final Four by 5 pm ET! See below the bracket for the polls:

Nickelodeon show bracket: Vote for your favorite in the Sweet 16

Keep voting for your favorite shows.

Our quest to find the greatest old-school Nickelodeon show has been mostly chalk (no slime … yet).

Almost all the top seeds defeated the lower ones in our first round … except for two.

In the Game Show region, No. 4 seed Nick Arcade got taken down by What Would You Do?

And, for me, what happened in the Animation region was kind of a shock: No. 2 seed Ren & Stimpy was steamrolled by Hey Arnold! I consulted with some fans, and it turns out Hey Arnold! had WAY more of a fanbase than I thought. I expected the cat and dog to make it far, but that’s why we do these brackets, right?

We’re on to the second round. You know the rules: Vote below — polls are under the updated bracket — until 5 p.m. ET. We’ll do the Elite Eight tomorrow.
