Watch: Trevor Lawrence gets slimed for winning Nickelodeon’s NVP award

Trevor Lawrence got a surprise sliming from his teammates for winning NVP honors.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence can add NVP to his list of career accomplishments.

On Wednesday, Lawrence was named the Nickelodeon Valuable Player of the week for his four-touchdown day against the Tennessee Titans. While the performance earned him AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time in his career, his first ever NVP award meant a surprise sliming at practice, courtesy of offensive linemen Brandon Scherff and Luke Fortner.

Nickelodeon’s NFL Slimetime has given NVP honors since the 2021 season. Pass rusher Josh Allen is the only other Jaguars player to win the award after recording a sack, interception, and fumble recovery against the Josh Allen-led Buffalo Bills in 2021.

Lawrence threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns against the Titans. He added another two rushing touchdowns.

So far in the 2023 season, Lawrence has 2,382 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. On Sunday, he became the third youngest quarterback in NFL history to eclipse 10,000 career passing yards.

Bears WR DJ Moore wins Week 5 NVP award

The NVP award is coming back to Chicago.

DJ Moore balled out in prime time and now gets to celebrate with slime time. On Wednesday, the Chicago Bears wide receiver was awarded Nickelodeon’s NVP award for his Week 5 performance in the team’s 40-20 win over the Washington Commanders. Moore had a career day, catching eight passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. His 230 yards were second-most in team history in a single game, just 19 yards short of Alshon Jeffery’s record of 249 set 10 years ago.

Earlier in the day, Moore won the NFL’s Player of the Week award and now gets his own NVP to go along with it.

The NVP (Nickelodeon Valuable Player) is an award created by Nickelodeon to celebrate a top-performing player in the NFL each week. It originated in early 2021 during the postseason when Nickelodeon aired a special broadcast of the Bears-Saints Wild Card game. Former Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky won the inaugural award thanks to a fan vote despite losing the game 21-9.

This is the first time a Bears player has won the award since that game.

WR Mike Evans wins Nickelodeon’s “NVP” award for Week 2

Guess Mike Evans really is All That.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver [autotag]Mike Evans[/autotag] has earned what is perhaps professional football’s most prestigious award.

Well, maybe not, but it’s still pretty cool. Nickelodeon awards their patented “NVP” award (Nickelodeon Valuable Player) each week, and for Week 2, the trophy came to Tampa Bay to be award to Evans. Evans is the third Buccaneer to win an NVP award โ€” quarterback Tom Brady and running back Leonard Fournette both won one in the 2021 season.

Evans wins the trophy off of a stellar game against the Chicago Bears, catching for 171 yards and a touchdown. Evans is currently fourth in the NFL in receiving yards with 237, the most receiving yards Evans has had in his first two games through his whole career.

Typically, the NVP winner is slimed as per Nickelodeon tradition, but Evans passed on that honor to another Bucs rookie. You can see who he chose below:

Did Nickelodeon rob Trevor Lawrence of an NVP Award?

It sure looked like Trevor Lawrence won NVP honors by a landslide.

It sure looked like Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was about to get a head full of Nickelodeon slime this week. Instead, the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson got the honor of NFL Slimetime NVP and doused his teammates in slime Wednesday.

Lawrence appeared to earn the award with a landslide victory, but did he really? Let’s investigate:

Lawrence won Nickelodeon’s Twitter poll by a mile

On Wednesday, Nickelodeon tweeted a poll with three candidates for this week’s NVP (Nickelodeon Valuable Player): Lawrence, Jackson, and Philadelphia Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith.

There wasn’t much voting happening until Jaguars fans caught wind of the poll and stuffed the ballot box with votes for Lawrence in the final hour before it closed. With less than 10 minutes left, Lawrence had close to 90 percent of the vote.

Then the poll vanished, the tweet was deleted, and Jackson was abruptly named the winner.

Jaguars fans were angry about what sure looks like a case of highway robbery, right? Well … not so fast.

It seems there was never a vote in the first place

First, let’s rewind. The NVP was created when Nickelodeon broadcast a playoff game between the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints in January 2021. During the game, there was a poll held on NFLNickPlay.com to decide the NVP.

Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky won the vote by a sizable margin, despite throwing his only touchdown pass of the game as time expired in the 21-9 loss.ย He even got a trophy for what was clearly fans voting for a joke winner.

It was a similar story during the playoffs earlier this year when Dak Prescott was named NVP after the Dallas Cowboys’ 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

While a public vote decided those single-game NVPs, that hasn’t appeared to be the case for NFL Slimetime’s weekly NVP, though. The list of winners last year — which included the Jaguars’ Josh Allen — was actually pretty reasonable. And that’s because there isn’t a vote at all. Nickelodeon picks a winner, tells the team, and a video is filmed before the award is announced.

When Nickelodeon tweeted the poll Wednesday, it seems they were just asking Twitter”s opinion on who would win. They’ve done similar tweets in the past without a workable poll.

So no, it wasn’t quite the travesty that it initially appeared to be. It’s hard to argue that Jackson, who threw four touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown in a 37-26 win against the New England Patriots, wasn’t a deserving winner.

Lawrence will just have to settle for being the AFC Offensive Player of the Week and keep fighting for a future sliming.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa wins NVP, gets slimed

Every day is a good day with some slime.

In an effort to connect more with younger audiences, the NFL has been partnering with Nickelodeon over the last few years. The channel has been able to broadcast some games, and each week they give out their Nickelodeon Valuable Player award to the player with the best performance that week.

For Week 2, that honor went to Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, after he threw for over 400 yards and six touchdowns against the Baltimore Ravens on their way to a comeback victory.

Tagovailoa was covered in slime by his teammates at the Dolphins’ practice facility right by Hard Rock Stadium.

Tagovailoa accepted the trophy and thanked the voters for the honor.

First, he wins Offensive Player of the Week. Now, he has the NVP. What’s next for Miami’s quarterback?

WATCH: Justin Jefferson wins NVP and Kevin O’Connell gets slimed

Kevin O’Connell brings Slime Time Live to TCO Performance Center to celebrate Justin Jefferson’s NVP

For his performance in week one, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson won the NVP (Nickelodeon Valuable Player) award given to the best player each week. He earned the award over other finalists Patrick Mahomes and the Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

In getting the award, head coach Kevin O’Connell presented Jefferson the award and had an announcement for the team

“We’re going to go in between the fields and I’m always going to be the guy that gets slimed.”

We have talked a lot in this space about it being a new era and this is just the latest example bring the old Nickelodeon show Slime Time Live to TCO Performance Center. O’Connell bonding with his players has created a different atmosphere both in the building and on the field.

Seriously, how fun is this guy?
