Former Georgia Bulldog RB Nick Chubb projected to start on reserve/PUP list

Georgia Bulldogs and Cleveland Browns fans may have to wait to watch Nick Chubb’s debut in 2024

Former Georgia Bulldog running back Nick Chubb, who suffered a major knee injury last year that needed two surgeries, has been predicted to begin the season on the Cleveland Browns’ reserve/PUP list by the Athletic’s Zac Jackson.

This move would require him to sit out the first four games of the season. His availability for Week 1 of the regular season was already in question, but this move would officially end that.

Chubb suffered the injury in a Week 2 Monday night contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The torn MCL and damaged ACL were in the same knee that Chubb injured as a Bulldog in 2015. In that injury, he suffered a dislocated kneecap, a torn PCL, a torn MCL and a torn LCL.

Many feared that last year’s injury would be career-ending, but Chubb has been recovered well, and Cleveland expects he will be able to suit up in 2024.

He’s not in danger of parting ways with Cleveland after agreeing to take a pay cut in the offseason. However, with only one year left on his contract, he will need to make sure he returns to full health and recaptures his past form. It seems wise for both him and the Browns to put him on the reserve/PUP list.

UGA fans may have to wait until Week 5 to see arguably their best NFL running back suit up for Cleveland.

Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb UNDER 74.5 rushing yards (-115)

At Ravens, Sunday 1 p.m. ET.

Chubb is a dominant back, but the Ravens make a point of packing the box to limit his production.

He has topped this number only once in the last 5 meetings with the Ravens and has 60 or fewer rushing yards in the other 4. He is capable of carrying the offense, but the Ravens play a style that force a suspect QB to prove he can beat them. Suspect QBs have been Cleveland’s DNA for 20 years.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase OVER 79.5 receiving yards (-115)

Host Falcons, Sunday 1 p.m. ET.

I’m convinced the Bengals are going to beat up the Falcons and it won’t be a close game. QB Joe Burrow’s Over/Under for passing yards is 283.5, which means the expectation is that there will be a lot of passing going on.

If Burrow is to come close to that number, it will likely require at least a couple downfield bombs to Chase. I can easily see a 40-yard play in there somewhere, which doesn’t leave a lot more to accomplish the rest of the way.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott UNDER 64.5 rushing yards (-115)

Host Lions, Sunday 1 p.m. ET.

I’m not completely done with Elliott, but it’s clear RB Tony Pollard is the more explosive, more productive option. At the end of the season, the Cowboys may well be done with Zeke.

With QB Dak Prescott expected to start Sunday, the impression is the Cowboys will pass more. That would be nice to see, but he’s shaking off rust after more than a month on the shelf with a throwing hand injury.

Elliott may see more playing time than Pollard, but that is because he’s better in pass protection, which means he isn’t running on that play. He might surpass this number, but it will likely take 15 carries and I don’t seem him getting that many in a time share.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin OVER 62.5 receiving yards (-115)

At Panthers, Sunday 1 p.m. ET.

With the Panthers in full tank mode, I could see the Bucs taking their foot off the gas in the second half, but in the first half it should be an assault on a weakened opponent.

All Godwin needs is a couple of chunk plays to hit this number and I’m expecting something closer to 80 than 63. He may not have as many receptions as WR Mike Evans, but I see Godwin making the downfield plays that break the Panthers’ back.

Nick Chubb is better than 30 NFL teams in this stat

Nick Chubb is ridiculously good…

Georgia’s second all-time leading rusher, Nick Chubb, has solidified himself as on of the NFL’s great running backs.

The Cleveland Browns star has had a hot start to the 2022 season.

Chubb has 26 forced missed tackles, which is better than 30 NFL teams through three weeks.

The Cedartown, Ga., native leads the NFL with 341 rushing yards (5.5 avg.) and four touchdowns.

Chubb has already amassed 5,157 yards (5.3 avg.) and 40 touchdowns since being drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Chubb is the second-leading NFL rusher in that span behind Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry.

Watch: Former UGA star RB Nick Chubb’s huge game for Browns

UGA’s second all-time leading rusher went OFF this week for the Browns…

Former Georgia Bulldogs, fans and running back coach Dell McGee will tell you that UGA is really ‘RBU’ or ‘running backs university’, and that was backed up this week by former Dawg Nick Chubb.

The Cleveland Browns back racked up 137 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns in a 41-16 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

It’s runs like this 70-yard break away that have helped set Chubb apart from other NFL backs.

And here’s Chubb’s other score:

I think I could watch Chubb drag defenders all day.

UGA’s second all-time leading rusher missed two games due to injury this season, but has still amassed 721 yards (3rd) and six touchdowns (6th) with 6.0 yards per carry (2nd).

You can catch Chubb and the Browns take on the New England Patriots this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on CBS.

Watch: Former Georgia star Nick Chubb is way stronger than you think

Watch: Former Georgia star Nick Chubb is way stronger than you think

Former Georgia running back and current Cleveland Brown, Nick Chubb, has always been known as a physical freak.

Before Chubb became the second all-time leading rusher in UGA history (3,424), he was running high school track looking like Ronnie Coleman in his Mr. Olympia prime.

Yes, Chubb looks as if he is chiseled in stone, but how strong is the Cedartown, Ga., native?

Here’s two clips to give you an idea. First, here is Chubb taking 600 pounds for a casual ride on his back…

Let’s not forget that Chubb tor multiple ligaments in his left knee playing for Georgia in 2015…

And in an even more impressive feat, Chubb hang cleans over 420 pounds, which if you aren’t familiar with cleans, is an incredible amount of weight…

NFL tacklers beware, the league’s top-rated running back is on a mission.

Pro Football Focus has Chubb rated as the NFL’s top back since 2018, taking into account each play of each game. In 2020, Chubb battled through injury and finished with 190 carries for 1,067 yards with 12 touchdowns and 16 receptions for 150 yards in 12 games.

Chubb and the Browns are set to kickoff the preseason visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 14 at 7:00 p.m. ET.

UGA great Nick Chubb helps Cleveland Browns to first playoff win since 1995

UGA great Nick Chubb helped the Cleveland Browns to their first playoff win since 1995 in a win over the Steelers on Sunday night.

The Cleveland Browns secured their first playoff win since 1995 in a 48-37 win versus the Steelers in Pittsburg in a wild-card matchup on Sunday night.

One reason for the Browns historical performance was a big night from former Georgia running back Nick Chubb.

Georgia football’s second all-time leading rusher carried the ball 18 times for 76 yards and caught 4 passes for 69 yards and this game-sealing touchdown.

A historical week for the Browns who, after making the Playoffs for the first time in 20 years just a week ago, were forced to face the Steelers without head coach Kevin Stefanski, tight ends coach Drew Petzing, defensive backs coach Jeff Howard, offensive guard Joel Bitonio, wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge and cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Kevin Johnson due to positive COVID-19 testing.

However, the Browns COVID-19 scares did not translate over to gameplay and especially not to Chubb and his ability.

Chubb still ran for over 1,000 yards during the regular season while missing four and a half games due to a knee injury and with his performance on Sunday night, the Cedartown, Ga., native has entered his name into the Browns history books.

I wonder if the 27 NFL teams that passed on Chubb in the 2018 NFL Draft ever wish they had done things differently.

I sat down with 2021 UGA signee Kamari Lassiter in the latest episode of UGA Football Live with J.C. Shelton! We talk about his recruitment and future as a Dawg. Listen here:

UGA great Nick Chubb is dominating NFL defenses

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is one of the greatest runners in Georgia history and now he is dominating the NFL.

Georgia’s second all-time leading rusher, now Cleveland Brown Nick Chubb is one of the most beloved running backs in UGA history, which is saying something.

‘RBU’ has produced some of the greatest runners in football history, including guys who went on to dominate beyond the college level.

Herschel Walker, Garrison Hearst, Terrell Davis, Knowshon Moreno and Todd Gurley are just some of the Bulldogs who made a name in the NFL beyond their time in Athens.

It’s time to add Chubb to the list.

The Cedartown, Georgia native has averaged 128 yards per game since returning from an MCL sprain four weeks ago, including an astonishing 6.7 yards per carry.

In the Browns win vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, Chubb ran 19 times for 144 yards and this touchdown.

On the year, Chubb has totaled 115 carries for 719 yards and six touchdowns.

Chubb has built himself into one of the best runners in the NFL, so it’s safe to say the Browns didn’t miss with the second round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Just think back to 2016 at UGA when Chubb suffered a devastating knee injury vs. Tennessee. He has truly come back better than ever and I am loving every bit of it.

Nick Chubb concerned about one bad apple ‘messing it up for everybody’

Former Georgia RB Nick Chubb has concerns that one player testing positive for COVID-19 could ruin it for everybody.

Former Georgia running back Nick Chubb, now ranked as the No. 3 running back in the NFL, is worried that one bad apple will spoil the whole barrel.

Chubb, who is entering his third year in the league, is fearful that something will go wrong with COVID-19 issues for his team the Cleveland Browns.

“My biggest concern is just one person messing it up for everybody,” Chubb said in a Zoom teleconference with reporters on Tuesday, when asked about the coronavirus. “If one person gets sick, if somebody somehow gets on the field around a lot more guys, he can spread it through that. We have tests every morning so I think that wouldn’t happen anyway, but if somehow some guy slipped past the test and all that, then that would worry me.”

The NFL has implemented strict safety guidelines for returning during the pandemic, but Chubb is right.  It would only take one to ruin it for everybody.

The NFL is faced with a much tougher situation than the NBA or NHL.  Teams are much larger and require a lot more space to conduct team activities.  The idea of a ‘NFL bubble’ is simply not feasible and the league will need to rely on trusting players to follow protocol, or things could get ugly.

The Browns have five players who decided to opt out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns.  That list has four offensive lineman including Drew Forbes, Drake Dorbeck, Colby Gossett and Malcolm Pridgeon.
