Colorado Avalanche at St. Louis Blues Game 3 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Colorado Avalanche at St. Louis Blues Game 3 NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues relocate to Enterprise Center Friday for Game 3 of their West Division Semifinal series. Puck drop will be shortly after 9:30 p.m. ET with the Avs up 2-0 in the series. Below, we analyze the Avalanche-Blues Game 3 odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Colorado won Games 1 and 2 on home ice by scores of 4-1 and 6-3, respectively. It outshot St. Louis 85-58 through two games and registered 58.5% of the 5-on-5 shot attempts.

The Avalanche won the head-to-head regular-season series 5-3 but they split the four games at Enterprise Center. The Blues won the last two of those 5-3 and 4-1 in late April.

  • Money line: Avalanche -225 (bet $225 to win $100) | Blues +180 (bet $100 to win $180)

  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Avalanche at Blues: Projected starting goalies

Philipp Grubauer (30-9-1, .922 SV%, 1.95 GAA) at Jordan Binnington (18-14-8, .910 SV%, 2.65 GAA)

Grubauer has stopped 54 of 58 shots in this series for a .931 save percentage; however, his home/road splits from the regular season are cause for concern heading into Game 3. He posted a .905 SV% and 2.48 goals against average in 16 games as a visitor.

Binnington gave up a total of 7 goals in the first two games of the series in Colorado. He preferred home ice in the regular season with a .913 SV% and 2.53 GAA over 23 games.

Avalanche at Blues: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Blues 4, Avalanche 3

Money line (ML)

This has been the most lopsided series of the postseason thus far and the Avalanche remain clear favorites by the odds to win the Stanley Cup at +300.

The BLUES (+180) will get to play in front of a limited home crowd Friday and are a good value at nearly 2-1.

Grubauer wasn’t the same goalie on the road in the regular season and Binnington was considerably better at Enterprise Center.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The BLUES +1.5 (-145) should be backed with the goal of insurance after being vastly outplayed in the first two games of the series. St. Louis registered just 41.5% of the 5-on-5 shot attempts.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the OVER 5.5 (-120) with Binnington struggling in the series and Grubauer subpar as a visitor.

It’s more likely the Blues score their way to victory than shut down the Avs’ high-powered offense.

Winnipeg Jets at Edmonton Oilers Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Winnipeg Jets at Edmonton Oilers Game 2 NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Winnipeg Jets go for a second straight road upset of the Edmonton Oilers to begin their North Division Semifinal series Friday. Puck drop at Rogers Place is set for shortly after 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Jets-Oilers Game 2 odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The third-seeded Jets stole Game 1 4-1 despite LW Pierre-Luc Dubois (undisclosed) and LW Nikolaj Ehlers (shoulder) being ruled out Wednesday afternoon. Dubois is questionable for Game 2 but Ehlers isn’t expected back until later in the postseason.

Two of Winnipeg’s goals in Game 1 were scored on the empty net. Jets G Connor Hellebuyck stopped 32 of 33 shots in the victory.

Jets at Oilers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:47 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Jets +135 (bet $100 to win $135) | Oilers -160 (bet $160 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Jets +1.5 (-200) | Oilers -1.5 (+165)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Jets at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (24-17-3, .916 SV%, 2.58 GAA) at Mike Smith (21-6-2, .923 SV%, 2.31 GAA)

Hellebuyck, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, led the NHL in games played, shots against and saves. The heavy workload didn’t hamper him in Game 1, as he stopped 32 of 33 shots.

He was just 2-5-0 with a .877 save percentage and 3.96 goals against average in seven regular-season games against the Oilers, though.

Smith was just OK in Game 1 with 18 saves on 20 shots. He was 4-0-0 with a .936 SV% and 2.06 GAA against the Jets in the regular season.

He struggled slightly on home ice, however, with a .908 SV% and 2.64 GAA over 16 games at Rogers Place.

Jets at Oilers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oilers 4, Jets 2

Money line (ML)

Back the OILERS (-160) at a better number than we had for Game 1. The Jets’ two empty-net goals are skewing the odds a little too heavily to the lower-seeded visitors.

Oilers Cs Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were both held point-less in Game 1. That shouldn’t happen again Friday, as they had little trouble with Hellebuyck in the regular season.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Get better value with the higher-seeded team by backing the OILERS -1.5 (+165) to win by at least 2 goals. They beat the Jets by 2 or more tallies in each of the final four head-to-head meetings of the regular season.

Over/Under (O/U)

Lean to the OVER 5.5 (-115) while banking on a better performance from the Oilers’ two biggest stars.

Hellebuyck obviously has a high pedigree, but he struggled against the Oilers in the regular season.

Carolina Hurricanes at Nashville Predators Game 3 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Nashville Predators Game 3 NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Carolina Hurricanes take a 2-0 Central Division Semifinal lead over the Nashville Predators on the road to Bridgestone Arena in Music City Friday. Puck drop will be shortly after 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Hurricanes-Predators Game 3 odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The story of the series thus far has been the play of Hurricanes G Alex Nedeljkovic. The former second-round pick stopped 54 of 56 shots in the first two playoff games of his career, including a 32-save shutout in Game 2.

The Canes’ outscored the Preds 8-2 and outshot them 69-56 in two games at PNC Arena in Raleigh. The teams split their four meetings at Bridgestone Arena in the regular season.

Hurricanes at Predators: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:41 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hurricanes -145 (bet $145 to win $100) | Predators +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hurricanes -1.5 (+190) | Predators +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -135 | U: +110)

Hurricanes at Predators: Projected starting goalies

Alex Nedeljkovic (15-5-3, .932 SV%, 1.90 GAA) vs. Juuse Saros (21-11-1, .927 SV%, 2.28 GAA)

Nedeljkovic posted the best regular-season save percentage and goals against average over 23 starts. He has picked up right where he left off in his first taste of the postseason. He was 8-4-1 with a .931 SV% and 2.00 GAA in 13 road games.

Saros hasn’t been the Preds’ main problem through the first two games of the series but has made just 61 saves on 67 shots. He should be expected to up his game at home, as he posted a .941 SV% and 1.86 GAA in 20 games at Bridgestone Arena.

Hurricanes at Predators: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Predators 2, Hurricanes 1

Money line (ML)

The PREDATORS (+120) are worth a shot in their first home game of the postseason, largely based on Saros’ strong home splits.

The Preds also beat the ‘Canes in each of the final two head-to-head meetings of the regular season, with both of those contests in Nashville. They won by scores of 3-1 and 5-0.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the puck line without enough value in backing the Predators +1.5 with the goal of insurance. The alternate line of Hurricanes +1.5 (-450) is even worse.

Over/Under (O/U)

Keep hammering the UNDER 5 (+110) in this series and especially with Saros more comfortable on his home ice.

Even if the Preds offense provides enough goal support for the win, it won’t be much against the red-hot Nedeljkovic.

Washington Capitals at Boston Bruins Game 4 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Washington Capitals at Boston Bruins Game 4 NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Bruins look to put the Washington Capitals on the brink of elimination in Game 4 of their East Division Semifinal series Friday. Puck drop at TD Garden will be at 6:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Capitals-Bruins Game 3 odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

All three games in this series went to overtime. The Capitals won Game 1 3-2 on home ice, but the Bruins responded with back-to-back wins, including Wednesday’s 3-2 victory in double overtime.

The Bruins have outshot the Capitals 117-108 thus far while outscoring them just 9-8. Boston beat the higher-seeded Capitals 4-2-2 in the regular season while narrowly outscoring them 26-25.

Capitals at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:32 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Capitals +135 (bet $100 to win $135) | Bruins -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Capitals +1.5 (-190) | Bruins -1.5 (+155)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +115 | U: -135)

Capitals at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Samsonov (13-4-1, .902 SV%, 2.69 GAA) at Tuukka Rask (15-5-2, .913 SV%, 2.28 GAA)

Samsonov’s start in Game 3 was his first career playoff appearance. He was sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols for Games 1 and 2 but stopped 40 of 43 shots in his first game since May 1. He was 0-1-0 with a .872 save percentage and 3.66 goals against average in 2 games against Boston in the regular season.

Rask has stopped 100 of 108 shots through three postseason games and remains firmly in control of the Boston crease. He was 7-2-1 with a .908 SV% and 2.27 GAA in 11 home games in the regular season.

Capitals at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Capitals 3, Bruins 2

Money line (ML)

The CAPITALS (+135) are getting too high of a number for how tight this series has been through three games. The +135 odds represent an implied win probability of 42.55%.

Washington held a lead with under 10 minutes remaining in each of the last two games and will be able to hold on as Samsonov settles into full-time starting duties.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

CAPITALS +1.5 (-190) is a safe play but without nearly as much value as the money line.

These two teams played each other close all year with the last four meetings dating back to the regular season decided by a single goal.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 5.5 (-140) after just 5 goals were scored in two of the first three games of this series, even with all three going beyond 60 minutes.

Three of the last four games for both teams played to a total of 5 or fewer goals.
