NHL fans think ESPN’s John Buccigross leaked the draft lottery order early in a deleted tweet

A now-deleted tweet from an ESPN announcer has hockey fans buzzing.

Hockey fans are abuzz with excitement ahead of Tuesday’s NHL Draft Lottery and ESPN announcer John Buccigross just threw gasoline on the fire.

Ahead of Tuesday’s draft lottery, Buccigross tweeted then quickly deleted a post featuring a suspicious draft board in the corner of the NHL’s Draft Lottery set. The picture, taken during a rehearsal of the event, shows the draft order in its entirety, with the San Jose Sharks grabbing the No. 1 overall pick and Utah (previously Arizona Coyotes) jumping to No. 2 overall.

Buccigross since deleted the tweet and reposted with a different picture, stating that the previous post was happening during rehearsal only.

While this wouldn’t be the first time the draft order has leaked ahead of the NHL’s official announcement, it seems as if this truly was a rehearsal and the draft order pictured just a placeholder for the real thing in a few hours. Plus, the official drawing is set to take place at 5:45 p.m. ET before the 6:30 p.m. event, not hours before like the picture showed.

It would be quite funny if this order is how it ends up being when the lottery is over, but we’ll just have to tune in to find out. Hockey fans, however, had a field day with this blunder by Buccigross.

When is the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery?

The 2023 NHL Draft is going to be a must-watch.

The 2023 NHL Draft Lottery is going to be a must-watch event for hockey fans.

Sure, it’s no Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the NHL draft lottery is as important of an event as it comes for teams in the bottom half this year. Why? Because getting to draft No. 1 overall will guarantee a team is able to select 17-year-old Connor Bedard, one of the next great hockey superstars, at this year’s draft.

Right now, the Anaheim Ducks hold the highest lottery odds at 18.5 percent after finishing the season with a NHL-worst 23 wins this past season.

As for when this highly-anticipated event is set to take place, the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery will be held on Monday, May 8 at 8 p.m. ET. Hockey fans will be able to catch the action on ESPN, Sportsnet, and TVA Sports.

NHL Draft Lottery odds: Which team has the best shot at the No. 1 pick in 2023?

These NHL teams have the best odds at the No. 1 pick this year.

The upcoming 2023 NHL Draft is a big one for the hockey world.

While the fight for the Stanley Cup is still ongoing between the top teams, the 16 clubs that make up the league’s worst will be hoping the lottery balls break their way. On May 8 at 8 p.m. ET, the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery will get underway in an event that will determine the fates and futures of many franchises.

Led by wunderkind Connor Bedard, this year’s NHL draft class is as deep as we’ve seen in years. Unfortunately, not every team entered into the lottery will have a chance at snagging the No. 1 overall pick. Much like last year, teams can only move up to 10 spots and only the first two spots in the lottery are up for grabs. The remaining teams will then be sorted by inverse order of regular-season points to determine the rest of the field.

The decision to change how the NHL Draft Lottery works will benefit teams like the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets, who both had miserable seasons and are guaranteed at least a top-four pick because of it.

Gritty tweets that the NHL draft lottery is rigged after the Flyers drop down a spot

Gritty has spoken!

I think Gritty speaks for all Philadelphia Flyers fans here after the NHL draft lottery.

Tuesday marked the NHL’s draft lottery, when the lottery balls decide the fate of where the teams pick for the upcoming entry draft. This year, the Montreal Canadiens will have the No. 1 overall pick after coming into the day with the best odds. And yet, there was one surprise in the mix with the New Jersey Devils jumping from fifth to draft at the No. 2 spot.

As the Devils jumped up, the Flyers dropped down, with the team’s fourth-best odds not enough to get them into a top spot as Philadelphia slid to No. 5 overall thanks to New Jersey winning the second spot. And Gritty was having none of it.

Gritty has officially spoken, folks! The NHL draft lottery was legitimately, absolutely, 100 percent rigged. You heard it here first!

2022 NHL Draft Order: The first 16 teams are set after the Canadiens won the lottery

The Canadiens will likely draft center Shane Wright with the No. 1 overall pick.

The Montreal Canadiens have won the 2022 NHL draft lottery, retaining their top odds as they will select No. 1 overall in early July.

Surprisingly, the New Jersey Devils jumped to No. 2 overall after coming in with the fifth best odds (8.5 percent), knocking down the Arizona Coyotes to the No. 3 spot. Other than that slight shift, the 2022 NHL draft lottery went pretty much as expected, with no one able to dethrone the Canadiens for that top pick.

It is very likely that with the No. 1 overall pick, the Canadiens will draft consensus top draftee Shane Wright, a center from the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL. Wright is a crafty playmaker with a lethal NHL shot, making him a player the Canadiens can build around in the seasons to come.

Here is the full list of the 16 teams that have cemented their draft order after the 2022 NHL draft lottery.

NHL draft lottery odds: Which team has the best shot at the No. 1 pick in 2022?

These NHL teams have the best odds at the No. 1 pick.

It’s almost time for the 2022 NHL draft lottery, where we’ll soon know the fate of the bottom 16 teams in the league ahead of the upcoming entry draft.

Even though the Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing, Tuesday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. ET will mark the NHL draft lottery for the second half of the league. It’s been a tough season for many NHL teams, but the draft lottery provides a slim amount of hope for a franchise’s future with a high draft pick.

The rules for the 2022 NHL draft lottery are a bit different this year, as a team can only move up to 10 spots and only the first two spots in the lottery are up for grabs, a change from three in previous years. The remaining teams will then be sorted by inverse order of regular-season points to determine the rest of the field. These two changes mean teams such as the Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes will be guaranteed a top pick after a grueling and miserable 82-game season.

Despite only the top 11 teams having a chance at the No. 1 overall pick, here’s the full 16-team list of the odds for the upcoming 2022 NHL draft lottery.

The New York Rangers winning the NHL Draft Lottery didn’t stop conspiracy theorists

Let the frozen ping pong ball jokes begin.

The NHL made the 2020 Draft Lottery about as complicated as possible, with teams that didn’t make the postseason getting picks 2-8 and leaving the No.1 pick to the eight teams who lost their Stanley Cup Playoffs qualifying round series.

The No. 1 pick was announced Monday evening by a slightly disheveled looking Garry Bettman and went to the New York Rangers.

Each of the eight teams had a 12.5% chance of getting the pick and with it, presumptive top pick Alexis Lafrenière. To show that the NHL wasn’t rigging the drawing (ahem Sidney Crosby) all eight balls were dropped into a little machine in a bizarre display, along with Bettman confirming the logos of each team. Of course, the ball dropper messed up slightly, dropping the Rangers ball just before Bettman “confirmed” the logo.

Because Draft lotteries are about the luck of the draw, and people need to impose some kind of order on random chance, fans had some fun spouting off the conspiracy theory that Rangers ball was actually frozen.

And as always, someone has to be the voice of reason.

Anyway, welcome to the NHL Alexis Lafrenière, where everyone is extremely normal.
