Former Chiefs DB Mike Edwards signs with Buffalo Bills

Former Kansas City #Chiefs safety Mike Edwards signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo #Bills.

The Kansas City Chiefs lose another member of their Super Bowl LVIII winning defense, with the latest departure coming from the secondary.

After publicly meeting with several teams at the start of free agency, Safety Mike Edwards officially joined the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday. The announcement was made on the Bills’ social media account, featuring a photo of Edwards ironically putting pen to paper with an image of him in a Chiefs uniform in the background.

The complete terms of the deal weren’t announced, but it was confirmed to be a one-season agreement with the 27-year-old.

During his lone season with the Chiefs, he collected one interception, two fumble recoveries, one fumble recovery for a touchdown, and 51 total tackles in 17 games, including five starts. The fumble recovery for a touchdown was memorable during the matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany. The six-year veteran was valuable to defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s secondary depth.

The two-time Super Bowl champion will be an addition to a Bills unit that has gone through significant changes on defense this offseason. Kansas City could be in the market for adding in the secondary during next month’s NFL Draft.

ESPN pins Odell Beckham Jr. as next player Saints should sign

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell says the New Orleans Saints would be a “perfect fit” for free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. A homecoming could make sense:

The free agency period never fails to disappoint year in and year out, and 2024 proved no different. But there are still multiple talented players left unsigned by an NFL team and ESPN’s Bill Barnwell views wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. as the perfect pick for who the New Orleans Saints should pick up next.

Despite an overall lack of production in 2023, Barnwell still sees value in the talent Beckham brings to the table.

“While he didn’t get steady volume, Beckham was efficient when on the field, averaging 2.2 yards per route run, which ranked 19th among receivers who ran 200 routes or more,” he wrote. “His efficiency was in line with Tank Dell and Jayden Reed, but he only ran about 18 routes per game to Reed’s 23 and Dell’s 27. If a team thinks Beckham can expand his role and retain his efficiency, there’s the potential for the 31-year-old to be more of a legitimate WR2 in 2024.”

Sending him back to Louisiana is something Barnwell looks at as kind of poetic in a way, considering that Beckham Jr. played college football for the LSU Tigers. And before that, he played out his high school career at Isidore Newman in New Orleans.

“Call me a romantic, but getting Beckham back home would be a natural way for the former LSU star to wind down his NFL career,” Barnwell said.

The fit is there for the Saints after the team released one of its most prominent wide receivers. Barnwell continued: “The Saints have a need for a second wideout after releasing Michael Thomas. Rashid Shaheed will take more snaps as the team’s designated deep threat and Cedrick Wilson is in town after disappointing over the last two years in Miami, but Beckham would fit in as part of the rotating cast behind third-year star Chris Olave, especially if the price tag is about half of what it was for the Ravens a year ago.”

Beckham has played for four teams over his NFL career and it is easy to get the sense that his time on the field is coming to a close as Barnwell notes, but he could still be in asset to the Saints in that time frame. The Saints made a run at Beckham before, which he characterized as the “right place, wrong time” for his career before joining a Los Angeles Rams squad that went on to win a Super Bowl.

Beckham finished out the 2023 season for the Ravens with 35 receptions for 565 yards with 3 touchdowns, seeing action in all 14 games. Whether or not he gets the opportunity to bring some solidity to the Saints’ wide receivers room will be something to keep an eye on.

Saints were well-represented at Texas Longhorns pro day

The Saints were well-represented at the Texas Longhorns pro day, and the coaches present give us an idea who they were scouting:

The New Orleans Saints were well-represented at the Texas Longhorns pro day, per Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy, who says the team’s defensive line and linebackers coaches were in attendance. That likely means Saints assistants Todd Grantham (defensive line) and Michael Hodges (linebackers), though Adam Gristick (assistant defensive line) and Brian Young (pass rush specialist) may have also made the trip. Either way, we can tell which positions they were most interested in.

So which 2024 draft prospects were on their radar? Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy is widely projected to be picked in the top half of the first round and he could be an option for the Saints at No. 14. His teammates Edgerrin Cooper (a linebacker) and T’Vondre Sweat (a nose tackle) are both seen as second-round picks. Linebacker Jaylan Ford also has a draftable grade, and Jett Bush hopes to join him.

Of that group, Murphy and Cooper best fit the athletic thresholds the Saints value with Relative Athletic Scores of 8.96 and 9.26, respectively. Ford told 247 Sports’ Jeff Howe that the Saints are one of the teams he’s had the most contact with through the pre-draft process, so they’re clearly keeping tabs on him. Howe’s peer Hank South overheard Grantham complimenting Sweat, saying that the 366-pounder “made some money” after impressing with his movement skills during his workout.

New Orleans showed some vulnerabilities in run defense last year. The Saints ranked 11th in rushing yards allowed both per-carry and per-game, and they particularly struggled to guard mobile quarterbacks. If Dennis Allen thinks someone like Sweat or Ford can help turn that weakness into a strength, it shouldn’t shock anyone to hear their names called in April.

Titans, CB Tre’Davious White slated for free-agent visit

The Titans and former All-Pro CB Tre’Davious White are reportedly set for a free-agent visit.

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly one of three teams slated to meet with former Buffalo Bills cornerback, Tre’Davious White.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the veteran free agent will take a meeting with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday before visiting the Titans and New York Giants later in the week.

White was once considered arguably the best at his position in the NFL, with the 29-year-old seeing two Pro Bowl nods and one first-team All-Pro over seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

But injuries derailed his career in recent years, with the LSU product suffering a torn left ACL in 2021 and a torn right Achilles in 2023.

Assuming he’ll be cheap and on a one-year deal, White is absolutely worth a flyer for Tennessee, a team in need of a second starter on the boundary.

The possibility of the Titans trading for L’Jarius Sneed seems to be fizzling out and there’s a good chance Tennessee targets a cornerback in this year’s draft, which could serve as an insurance policy for White and a potential long-term solution all in one shot.

Seahawks signing ex-Titans DB K’Von Wallace

The Seahawks are reportedly signing former Titans DB K’Von Wallace.

Former Tennessee Titans safety K’Von Wallace has reportedly found a new home.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Wallace is signing a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks after meeting with the team recently. The financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Wallace was brought in by Tennessee in 2023 via waivers following the Kevin Byard trade and performed admirably in a significant role.

During his stint in Tennessee, he allowed completions on 14-of-17 passes thrown his way, but gave up just 7.5 yards per reception and posted a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 70.7 overall. Adding to that, he always seemed to be around the football.

Wallace is a quality depth piece that I was hoping the Titans would bring back, but clearly that wasn’t in the cards.

Tennessee needs to add at least one player at the position moving forward. The team has been linked to former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons and has hosted ex-New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye for a visit.

Ex-Titans CB Kristian Fulton set for visit with Chargers

The Chargers and former Titans CB Kristian Fulton are reportedly set to have a free-agent visit.

Former Tennessee Titans second-round pick and cornerback Kristian Fulton is reportedly set for a free-agent visit with the Los Angeles Chargers.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Fulton will fly out to have dinner with Chargers brass on Wednesday and will complete his visit on Thursday.

This is the first known visit for Fulton, who was never expected to return to Tennessee in 2024 following what can best be described as a disappointing tenure.

Over the first three years of his career, Fulton looked the part of a No. 1 cornerback but struggled with soft-tissue injuries. In a contract year in 2023, Fulton once again failed to play a full season and struggled in coverage.

He posted career-worsts in completion rate (75.5%) and passer rating (114.1) allowed, and always seemed to commit penalties at the worst possible times.

All that said, Fulton is still only 25 and it isn’t crazy to think he could revive his career with a change of scenery.

Titans agree to terms with DL Sebastian Joseph-Day

The Titans have agreed to terms with defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day.

The Tennessee Titans have finally made a move in free agency to bolster their defensive line.

According to his agency, the Titans have agreed to terms with defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day on a one-year deal, the financial terms of which were not immediately disclosed.

Joseph-Day visited the Titans on Monday. Here’s more on him from an article we wrote on the meeting:

A former sixth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams, Joseph-Day has started in 68 of the 71 games heā€™s played in during his career.

In 2023, he appeared in 14 games with the Los Angeles Chargers before being waived late in the season and signing with the San Francisco 49ers. Joseph-Day tallied 36 tackles (three for loss) and tied his career-high with three sacks.

The Rutgers product offers some versatility, as heā€™s played defensive tackle in a 4-3, nose tackle and defensive end.

This was a much-needed addition for the Titans, who were very thin upfront following the departure of Denico Autry to the Houston Texans.

Joseph-Day isn’t the “wow” move we hoped the Titans would make going into free agency, but he is a big upgrade over everyone not named Jeffery Simmons in the defensive line room.

Tennessee isn’t done yet, though, as the team still needs another starter and could use more depth options.

Report: Titans were ‘really close’ to trading for Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed

The Titans were reportedly “really close” to trading for Chiefs CB, L’Jarius Sneed.

We’ve seen differing reports on how close the Tennessee Titans ā€” and other teams ā€” were to trading for cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who remains a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

But The Athletic’s Dianna Russini clarified things during a recent episode of “The Athletic Football Show”, stating the Titans and Indianapolis Colts were “really close” to completing a trade for Sneed. The holdup, she believes, had to do with Sneed’s contract extension demands.

Russini notes that this came before the Titans signed Calvin Ridley last week, and adds that all trade talks aren’t dead but the chances of Tennessee landing Sneed are “smaller” now. She believes the Colts are the front-runners.

You can check out the entire clip below.

As far as what draft compensation the Titans would’ve sent to Kansas City is concerned, Russini did not say. But clearly the Titans were ready to pull the trigger on what could have been a massive upgrade to their secondary.

Saints free agent OL Andrus Peat visiting Titans on Monday

New Orleans Saints free agent Andrus Peat is visiting the Tennessee Titans on Monday. The veteran offensive lineman could be in high demand:

New Orleans Saints free agent Andrus Peat is visiting the Tennessee Titans on Monday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The veteran offensive lineman could be in high demand after playing well at left tackle in 2023, having spent most of his NFL career at left guard.

If Peat is signed away by another team, the Saints will not receive a compensatory pick in the 2025 NFL draft. That’s because he agreed to a reworked contract last summer which cost him a pay cut, with the Saints agreeing to tear up the last year of his deal, allowing him to reach free agency ahead of schedule.

That’s a tough break seeing as the Saints are forfeiting $13,638,000 in dead money after past restructures with Peat. That’s how much salary cap space they’ll be without if he’s playing elsewhere, without the promise of a comp pick coming back in next year’s draft.

But it might be necessary. Peat has struggled with injuries throughout his career, being limited to 111 of 147 possible games in the regular season. The Saints overpaid him relative to performance and have had to work around his contract for a while, so this dead money cap hit isn’t anything new. If this is it for Peat in New Orleans, he’ll be off the books altogether in 2025. And if he’s leaving the Saints need to invest in a quality insurance policy should Trevor Penning continue to struggle at left tackle.

Titans, free-agent OL Andrus Peat set for visit

The Titans are set for a free-agent visit with three-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Andrus Peat.

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly expected to meet with former New Orleans Saints offensive lineman, Andrus Peat.

The news comes from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who notes that the Titans are scheduled to meet with Peat on Monday.

A former first-round pick of the Saints, Peat has been a full-time starter since entering the league and offers versatility with his ability to play guard and tackle.

In 2023, Peat played 715 snaps at left tackle and 89 at left guard, giving up two sacks and 30 total pressures. In the years before that, the 30-year-old played primarily at left guard, where he received three Pro Bowl nods.

Peat could be the Titans’ insurance policy at left tackle in the event the team doesn’t land a Day 1 starter at the position in the 2024 NFL draft, something I’d expect them to do at No. 7 or No. 38 overall.

If Tennessee does land its left tackle of the future, Peat could compete for a starting spot at either right guard or right tackle. Of course, left guard is already claimed by 2023 first-round pick, Peter Skoronski.
