NFL Power Rankings Week 6: 49ers are worlds better than every other Super Bowl contender

Our latest NFL power ranks feature the 49ers, who are clearly miles better than everyone else.

It’s not surprising that the San Francisco 49ers are undefeated and running roughshod on the entire NFL. This is a roster rife with All-Pro talent, coached by Kyle Shanahan — perhaps pro football’s best sideline leader. Reaping and sowing sheer destruction is what the 49ers should be doing to everyone they play. (Micah Parsons might be the only one in denial.)

What is surprising is how far ahead of the pack they are.

We’re five weeks into the 2023 NFL season, and San Francisco has established a colossal chasm between itself and every other supposed Super Bowl contender. It’s genuinely not even close because they are leaps and bounds better than the competition.

The tale of the tape says as much (especially when they’re copying others’ tape). The 49ers are second in offensive expected points added (EPA) per play (only the potential record-setting Miami Dolphins are just ahead). They’re fifth in defensive EPA, with a few squads of them (see: the Dallas Cowboys they just dismantled) seemingly running on some semblance of smoke and mirrors. They have yet to score less than 30 points in a game and won by at least a two-score margin in all but one affair. Their +99 point differential is the largest by a 5-0 team in over five decades. Last but not least, dating back to the 2022 regular season, the 49ers have won 15 straight regular calendar games, tying a franchise record.

Put another way: San Francisco more or less picked up where it left off last season, while everyone else is stuck in neutral. The 49ers still have to finish the job in January (and February). But at this moment, anyway, all signs point to that outcome being a virtual guarantee. The only thing that likely derails this 49ers bullet train is bad luck (or a certain NFC team residing in Philadelphia).

Here are For The Win’s Week 6 NFL power rankings, with the 49ers setting the pace.

NFL power rankings Week 6: Steelers rise, Cowboys and Commanders fall

Our NFL power rankings going into Week 6 of the 2023 season.

With the action of “Munday Night Football” in the books, it’s time to take a look at our NFL power rankings going into Week 6 of the 2023 campaign.

The final game of the week saw the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Green Bay Packers by a score of 17-13.

The Pittsburgh Steelers got back on the winning track in Week 5 with a 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens, marking the second AFC North victory for the Steelers, along with the win over the Cleveland Browns.

Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars notched an impressive win over the Buffalo Bills in London and have now won two straight.

As those two teams rise, the Washington Commanders are in free fall after getting blown out by one of the worst teams in the NFL, the Chicago Bears.

Find out where those teams and the rest of the league land in our NFL power rankings going into Week 6 of the season.

NFL power rankings round-up going into Week 6

Where experts are placing the Titans in their NFL power rankings going into Week 6.

The Tennessee Titans notched their third consecutive victory in Week 5 over the Washington Commanders, putting them in sole possession of first place in the AFC South going into their bye.

Tennessee’s latest victory has them moving up in the power rankings of experts. Our round-up starts with USA TODAY’s Nate Davis, who has Tennessee moving up five spots to No. 16.

16. Titans (21): Their defense has broken up 21 passes this season – most of those courtesy of mammoth DTs Teair Tart (5) and Jeffery Simmons (3). Go figure.

Love the shoutout for Tart here, as the 2020 undrafted free agent has been great for the Titans this season, even in pass coverage where he leads the team with five pass break-ups.

One of those five came on Sunday, when Tart dropped into coverage near the goal line and made a huge pass break-up on Washington’s final drive. Graceful doesn’t begin to describe Tart’s movement here. Elite.

Titans power rankings round-up: Tennessee moving up after Week 5

Two experts have the Titans in the top 10 after their victory over the Jaguars in Week 5.

The Tennessee Titans took a bath in the power rankings last week after a loss to the New York Jets, but they are be moving up this time around after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars, 37-19, in Week 5.

In our latest installment of the NFL power rankings round-up for the Titans, we begin with USA TODAY’s Nate Davis, who has Tennessee moving up four spots to No. 11. Here’s his take:

11. Titans (15): Lots of wild Derrick Henry stats out there, and he’s currently averaging a career-best 128.0 rush yards per game – putting him on pace for a single-season record 2,176. But consider this nugget from Elias: Henry has run for 4,792 yards over the past 40 games, eclipsing Jim Brown’s record (4,759) for the best stretch in league history.

It has been amazing to see Henry what Derrick Henry has done thus far, and those two nuggets from Davis are just a few of the ones that came out of the win over Jacksonville on Sunday. Here’s more, if you like.

Now, we take our trip around different media outlets to see where experts have the Titans after Week 5.
