2021 NFL draft: The biggest steals in the second round

NFL teams can find a lot of first-round talent in the second round, and here are the biggest second-round steals in the 2021 draft.

Since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, 16 different players selected in the second round of the draft are now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. When the second round begins, it’s a highly attractive place for teams to be, because there’s still first-round talent out there, without the inevitable first-round contracts. From Jack Lambert to Howie Long to Brian Dawkins to Thurman Thomas to Brett Favre, it’s safe to say that getting a player in the second round is not a barrier to greatness.

So, a word of encouragement for all you second-rounders in the 2021 NFL draft: Just because the NFL decided you weren’t a first-round talent, doesn’t mean you can’t have a first-round — or even a Hall of Fame — impact at the professional. Here are the second-round picks in 2021 that we think could pop right off once the season begins.

Biggest steals of the 2020 NFL Draft

See who landed the best bargains across all seven round of the 2020 NFL Draft

After three days of telecasts, interviews, and 255 selections the 2020 NFL Draft is now in the books.

We were promised chaos, uncertainty and surprises throughout the entire process. After the first 10 selections that provided no trading, we started to see a little bit of that chaos.

Prior to the undrafted free agency rush, let’s take a look at the 10 biggest steals of the class:

Trevon Diggs | CB | Alabama

Dallas Cowboys | 2nd Round | No. 51 overall

Trevon was a converted wide receiver at Alabama and Nick Saban was able to mold him into one of the best ballhawks at the position among the NFL Draft hopefuls. Most draft boards, including Luke Easterling’s board, ranked him as a top-32 player in the draft. Now he joins a team that seemingly received steal after steal over the three-day event.

2020 NFL Draft: Biggest steals, reaches of Day 2

Breaking down the best bargains and the biggest head-scratchers from Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft

The second and third rounds of the 2020 NFL draft are officially in the books, and it was an exciting night from start to finish. There was plenty of talent left on the board at the conclusion of the first round, and many of those talented prospects found their new home tonight.

As is the case with every draft, there were a handful of unexpected steals tonight, as well as a couple of head-scratchers. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest reaches and steals from Day 2 of this year’s draft:

Steal | Georgia RB D’Andre Swift to Detroit Lions, No. 35 overall

If you told me before the draft that the Lions would get a chance to select Swift in the second round, I would have called you crazy. Swift was widely considered the best running back in this draft, so the value here is excellent.

A human highlight reel, watching Swift run all over SEC defenses over the last few years has been an absolute pleasure. A physical runner with excellent burst, Swift’s ability to make defenses look foolish by running right through them or by leaving them in the dust with a nasty jump-cut makes him an exciting prospect to watch going forward.

With the likes of Matthew Stafford, Kenny Golladay, T.J. Hockenson and Kerryon Johnson on offense, they found another dangerous game-breaker in Swift.

2020 NFL Draft: Biggest steals, reaches of 1st round

See who got the best bargains and made the worst reaches in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft

The first round of the 2020 NFL draft has come and gone, and it was an exciting night from start to finish.

As is the case with every draft, there were a handful of unexpected steals on the first day of the draft, as well as a couple of head-scratchers. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest reaches and steals from Round 1 of this year’s draft.

Steal: Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs to Tampa Bay Buccaneers, No. 13 overall

If you said before the draft that the Buccaneers would have traded up to pick Tristan Wirfs, I would have assumed they would’ve moved up into the top 10 to do so. Instead, they only had to move up one spot.

A physical freak with plenty of athleticism, strength and upside to tap into, Wirfs is an instant starter on Tampa Bay’s offensive line. With the likes of Tom Brady, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Rob Gronkowski on offense, they needed to find a cornerstone at offensive tackle, and they could have found that player in Wirfs.
