LA Kings at New York Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s LA Kings at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The LA Kings (17-9-3) meet the New York Rangers (15-12-1) Saturday at Madison Square Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Kings vs. Rangers odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; tied 1-1 in 2023-24

The Kings suffered a 3-1 loss against the New Jersey Devils Thursday in the second stop of a 7-game road trip after a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders in the trip opener. The loss to the Devils snapped a 6-game win streak, while the Under has hit in 4 in a row. The total has gone low at a 10-2-1 clip in the past 13 outings.

For the Rangers, they topped the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 Wednesday as moderate favorites (-140) as the Under (6) held on. It halted a 3-game losing streak, while the Under is now 5-2 across the past 7 contests.

Kings at Rangers projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (6-2-3, 2.37 GAA, .910 SV, 1 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (10-10-1, 2.90 GAA, .911 SV%, 1 SO)

Kuemper has picked up back-to-back wins since returning from injury Dec. 7. He has allowed a single goal in each of his past 2 outings, stopping 41 of 43 shots. He was sidelined due to an undisclosed injury suffered Nov. 13 in Colorado.

Shesterkin has allowed exactly 2 goals in each of his past 3 outings, winning 2 of those outings. Offensive support has been hard to come by lately. He is 2-2-0 with a 2.77 GAA and .903 SV% in 4 December starts, allowing 2 or fewer goals in 3 of his 4 outings.

Kings at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Kings 2

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-110) are worth playing at home, even though New York hasn’t been playing its best lately. The home side has won 7 of the past 8 meetings in this series dating back to Dec. 10, 2019.

New York has struggled lately, winning just once in the past 4 home games, so there is plenty of risk here.

The Kings (-110) lost last time out, and they’ve had trouble scoring goals lately with 2.7 GPG in the past 10 outings.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Puck line/Against the spread

The Kings +1.5 (-275) will cost you close to 3 times your potential return if you’d like a little bit of insurance and just can’t play LA straight up.

On the flip side, the Rangers -1.5 (+220) can’t be trusted with the way they’ve been playing lately, as they have just 4 wins in the past 12 games, with 3 of those victories by just a single goal.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (-105) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The Under has cashed in the past 2 games for the Rangers, averaging 2.0 GPG while allowing 2.0 GPG.

For the Kings, the Under has cashed in 4 in a row, while going 10-2-1 in the past 13 outings.

NY Rangers at Buffalo Sabres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s New York Rangers at Buffalo Sabres odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New York Rangers (14-12-1) travel upstate to battle the Buffalo Sabres (11-13-4) Wednesday. Puck drop from the KeyBank Center is scheduled for shortly after 7 p.m. ET (TNT / truTV / Max). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Rangers vs. Sabres odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Sabres lead 1-0

The Sabres took the first matchup this season 6-1 as +172 underdogs Nov. 7 at Madison Square Garden with the Over (6.5) hitting. Rangers G Igor Shesterkin was pulled in the second period after already allowing 5 goals on 12 shots.

Both clubs hover around .500 and aim to halt losing streaks.

The Rangers enter on a 2-game slide, recently falling 2-1 as big -235 home favorites to the Chicago Blackhawks Monday. Shesterkin stood tall with 30 saves on 32 shots but was outdueled by Chicago G Arvid Soderblom, who stopped 29 of 30 shots.

Meanwhile, the Sabres are on a 7-game skid, recently suffering a 6-5 shootout loss as -127 home favorites vs. the Detroit Red Wings Monday with the Over (6.5) cashing. It was a tough one for Buffalo, which led 3-2 after the first period and 5-3 after the second. LW Jason Zucker scored 2 goals in the loss.

Both teams feature a skater worth watching for goals. Rangers LW Artemi Panarin and Sabres RW Tage Thompson are tied for eighth in the NHL with 15 tallies.

  • Moneyline (ML): Rangers -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Sabres +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Rangers -1.5 (+170) | Sabres +1.5 (-210)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -110 | U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Rangers at Sabres projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (9-10-1, 2.95 GAA, .910 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (8-7-3, 2.82 GAA, .902 SV%, 1 SO)

Shesterkin’s tough-luck loss against the woeful Blackhawks marked the third time in 4 games that he only gave up 2 goals. He lost 3 of those games and has sustained an ‘L’ in 6 of his past 7 contests.

The Russian has faced 633 shots, the second-most in the league behind Nashville’s Juuse Saros’ 668. Shesterkin ranks third with 576 saves; Saros has 608 and Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck is second at 583. Shesterkin’s woes can significantly be blamed on a dormant Rangers offense and a defense in transition following Friday’s trade of D Jacob Trouba to Anaheim.

Luukkonen resides in a similar letdown spot, having fallen victim to a Sabres club that allows him to face pepperings continuously. He allowed 5 goals in his last start — against 28 shots — in a 5-2 home loss to Utah Saturday.

The Finn is 0-3-2 in his past 5 games, carrying just a .882 SV% in that window. Compared to Shesterkin’s 6.3 goals saved above expected (13th, per Moneypuck), Luukkonen has significantly lagged at 1.5 (T-30th), so this presents a mismatch.

Rangers at Sabres picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Sabres 2

Moneyline

A more competent Rangers attack would reward Shesterkin’s form. Though the score doesn’t produce optimism over how much they will score to support their netminder, the Rangers will hit their stride post-Trouba trade.

BET RANGERS (-140).

Puck line/Against the spread

Despite their weak record, Buffalo has overperformed for betting purposes, leveling at 14-14-0 on the puck line.

The score prediction posits the Sabres to lose by just a goal, but this shouldn’t prompt bettors to pounce on Buffalo’s bland -210 PL juice.

PASS.

Over/Under

Given their bouts with inconsistent goaltending, both squads sit at .500 or better on the total. New York at 13-13-1 O/U, while Buffalo is 14-10-4.

However, Shesterkin has thrived on the road so far this season (2.42 GAA/.930 SV%, compared to .331/.895 SV% at Madison Square Garden).

His luck will turn, though the scatterbrained Rangers forecheck likely won’t overperform on offense to the extent that justifies laying the wood on the Over.

BET UNDER 6 (-110).

New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New Jersey Devils (16-9-2) will travel across the Hudson River to face the New York Rangers (13-9-1) Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Devils vs. Rangers odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

This first meeting of the 2024-25 season between these Metropolitan Division rivals comes at a tumultuous time for the Rangers, who halted a 5-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens Saturday.

On the flip side, the visitors are surging in second place in the Metro, despite falling short 6-5 to the first-place Washington Capitals Saturday. The Devils’ elite power play (1st in NHL, 33.7%) gives them a major advantage coming into this crosstown clash.

Devils at Rangers odds

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Devils -1.5 (+200) | Rangers +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Devils at Rangers projected goalies

Jacob Markstrom (11-6-1, 2.62 GAA, .902 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (8-8-1, 2.93 GAA, .913 SV%, 1 SO)

Both starting goalies have been confirmed as of publication.

Shesterkin’s potentially historically important contract year has not done much for his case to receive the most lucrative goaltending contract in history. The Russian has seen at least 31 shot attempts across his past 4 starts, all losses (13 goals allowed, .917 SV%).

Markstrom has struggled in his past 5 games (.881 SV%) but has won 3 of them, in part by being helped by a defense that has allowed no more than 28 shots in a game over that window.

Oddly enough, they’ve both at times been outplayed by their backups, with the Devils’ Jake Allen (5-3-1, 2.70 GAA, .907 SV%) and the Rangers’ Jonathan Quick (5-1-0, 2.03, .936) stealing the spotlight often from the No. 1 names.

Devils at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 4, Rangers 2

Moneyline

Given that this is a road trip, the Devils’ ML price is lucrative enough to wager. New Jersey’s brand of hockey has looked crisper than the home club’s, especially while holding the NHL’s best power-play attack.

Even though the Rangers hold the league’s 2nd-best penalty-kill unit (87.7%), I side with a red-hot power play from the visitors to be the difference.

BET DEVILS (-130).

Puck line/Against the spread

While both teams sit below .500 ATS (Devils 13-14, Rangers 9-14), the sharp bet would lean heavily on the aggressive Devils’ side due to their superior defense.

The Devils rank 3rd with a 9.64 Expected Goal Differential (EGD), according to Moneypuck, and hold upside with a -6.04 Goals Above Expected, the 8th-unluckiest rate. Expect that fortune to swing in their favor; the Rangers rank 20th in EGD (-2.26).

BET DEVILS -1.5 (+200).

Over/Under

The Rangers have scored 4+ goals just twice in their past 10 games. Given that the Devils’ pressure should work well against this struggling New York offense, it’s difficult to trust the Devils to carry the load to top 6.5 goals on their own.

The listed prediction says the total will fall just short. Stick with that guidance.

BET UNDER 6.5 GOALS (-110).

New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New York Rangers (12-5-1) meet the Edmonton Oilers (10-9-2) Saturday at Rogers Place. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Rangers vs. Oilers odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; tied 1-1 in 2023-24

The Rangers wrap up a 4-game road trip in Edmonton. New York has won 2 of 3 games in Seattle and Vancouver, while losing last time out in Calgary. The Under has cashed in 3 of the past 4 outings for New York, and it has 2 shutout victories in the past 6 outings.

For the Oilers, they’ve picked up just a single win in the past 4 games, while Edmonton has allowed 3 or more goals in 7 of the past 9 outings. The Over is 3-1 in the past 4 games, and 5-2 in the previous 7 contests for Edmonton.

Rangers at Oilers odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list of NHL odds. Lines last updated at 11:45 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML): Rangers +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Oilers -130 (bet $130 to win $100)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Rangers +1.5 (-225) | Oilers -1.5 (+180)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -125 | U: +105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Rangers at Oilers projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (8-5-1, 2.82 GAA, .914 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Stuart Skinner (6-6-2, 3.33 GAA, .876 SV%, 1 SO)

Shesterkin allowed 3 goals on 49 shots in a 3-2 setback in Calgary last time out. The loss was certainly not on him, as he stood on his head and gave New York a chance to win. He has allowed 3 or fewer goals in each of his past 3 starts, and 5 of 7 outings in November.

Skinner has been a little better in November than in October. He is 4-2-1 with a 3.15 GAA and .880 SV% since flipping the calendar from October. Skinner was a dismal 2-4-1 with a 3.51 GAA and .872 SV% in 7 October outings.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Rangers at Oilers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Oilers 3

Moneyline

The RANGERS (+110) are worth a roll of the dice as short ‘dogs, as they look to wrap up the four-game road trip in style.

The road team has won 4 straight meetings in this series, and New York has the better goaltender going. Skinner has been better for the Oilers (-135) lately, but he has still been a little shaky, and Edmonton has allowed 3 or more goals in 7 of the past 9 outings.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Rangers +1.5 (-225) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return if you want a little bit of insurance, and you can’t bring yourself to pick New York straight up. That’s way too much risk for not nearly enough reward. Even as part of a multi-leg parlay it’s not a recommended play.

AVOID.

Over/Under

The lean is to the OVER 6.5 (-125), but go with a half-unit play at best.

The Over-Under has split 4-4 in the past 8 games for New York, while the Over has cashed in 3 of the past 4 for Edmonton, while cashing in 5 of the past 7 outings. The Over is 3-1 for the Oilers in the past 4 tries against Eastern Conference foes, too.

Winnipeg Jets at New York Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Winnipeg Jets at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Winnipeg Jets (14-1-0) take on the New York Rangers (9-3-1) Tuesday. Puck drop from Madison Square Garden is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Jets vs. Rangers odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; split last season 1-1

The Jets have won 6 straight after suffering their first defeat of the year. They became the first team in NHL history to win 14 of their first 15 games. Their latest was a 4-1 victory over the Dallas Stars Saturday. LW Nikolaj Ehlers tied LW Kyle Connor for the team lead with 9 goals in the game Saturday.

The Rangers shut out the Detroit Red Wings Saturday 4-0. LW Artemi Panarin put his 10th one in the net on the season. The Rangers have been up-and-down at 4-3 in the last 7 games. Two of those losses came at home, where they are 4-2-1 thus far.

Jets at Rangers odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list of NHL odds. Lines last updated at 1:59 p.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML): Jets +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Rangers -125 (bet $125 to win $100)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Jets +1.5 (-250) | Rangers -1.5 (+195)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Jets at Rangers projected goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (11-1-0, 1.83 GAA, .935 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (6-3-1, 2.62 GAA, .920 SV%, 1 SO)

Hellebuyck has allowed 1 goal total in his last 3 starts, and it was against Dallas Saturday. He stopped 32 of 33 shots fired his way. He’s on a different level right now, and that’s a big reason why his team is the best in the NHL right now. Hellebuyck was 1-0-1 with a 2.41 GAA and .924 SV% in 2 starts against the Rangers last year.

Shesterkin had issues in a 6-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Thursday. He allowed 5 goals on just 12 shots before he was pulled in the 2nd period. He faced the Jets twice last season, allowing 3 goals on 26 shots in a 4-2 loss and stopping 27 of 29 in a 3-2 OT winner.

Jets at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Jets 3, Rangers 1

Moneyline

It’s early, but Shesterkin hasn’t been all that great at home thus far. He has a 3.23 GAA in 6 home starts and a 1.76 GAA in 4 road starts. The Jets won here the last 2 years, and they have taken 3 of 4 meetings. They’ll make it 4 of 5.

Take the JETS +105.

Puck line/Against the spread

Forget the puck line, and take KYLE CONNOR ANYTIME GOAL +145. He has a 5-game goalless drought he’ll be looking to cease. He scored in this building in each of the last 2 years.

BetMGM has a 20% NHL odds boost token to make it +174.

Over/Under

I like the UNDER 6 (-105) here, but keep in mind this has some push potential. The last meeting had 6 goals, but the previous 6 were less than that threshold. The Jets have hit the Under in 3 straight. The Under is 2-2 in the Rangers’ last 4.

New York Rangers at Washington Capitals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at Washington Capitals odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New York Rangers (6-1-1) take on the Washington Capitals (5-2-0) Tuesday. Puck drop from Capital One Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Rangers vs. Capitals odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Tied 2-2 last season

The Rangers followed up their first regulation loss of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks Saturday as -282 favorites. Backup G Jonathan Quick was stellar, stopping 32 of 33 shots fired his way. LW Artemi Panarin dished his 9th assist of the season to go with his 6 goals.

The Caps snapped a 5-game winning streak with a 3-0 loss in Tampa Bay Saturday. G Charlie Lindgren stopped 18 of 21 in the snoozy game. The Caps outshot the Lightning 32-21 and went 0-for-2 on the power play. C Dylan Strome leads the team with 9 points, and 6 are via assist.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Rangers -1.5 (+165) | Capitals +1.5 (-200)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Rangers at Capitals projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (4-1-1, 2.16 GAA, .926 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Logan Thompson (3-0-0, 3.28 GAA, .884 SV%)

Shesterkin dropped his last start 3-1 Thursday against the Florida Panthers. He was solid, stopping 26 of 29 shots along the way. The Cats started fast, scoring 2 of the 3 goals within the first 3 minutes, and the Rangers never recovered. He was 2-1-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .926 SV% last season against the Caps.

Thompson is coming off a 6-3 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers Wednesday where he stopped 26 of 29. He is undefeated, but he has been tested, allowing 2, 5 and 3 goals in his 3 starts. He faced the Rangers once last season and was stellar. He stopped 29 of 30 in a 5-1 victory.

Rangers at Capitals picks and predictions

Prediction

Capitals 3, Rangers 1

Moneyline

The Rangers have won 5 straight meetings, including 4 straight in the Stanley Cup playoffs last year. However, their 2 trips to Washington ended up in defeat last regular season. Despite the goose egg in their last game, the Caps are hitting the back of the net with 3+ goals in every other game.

Take a shot with the CAPITALS +125.

Puck line/Against the spread

We’re taking the plus-money ML, so PASS on the puck line.

Over/Under

It sounds like an oxymoron, but I’m high on the Under here. The Rangers are 3-4-1 O/U, and the Caps are 4-3 thus far. The Rangers are on a bit of a dry spell with 3 goals in the last 2, and the Caps were blanked last game.

Take the UNDER 6 (-115).

Panthers at Rangers projected goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky (3-2-1, 3.47 GAA, .875 SV%) vs. Igor Shesterkin (4-0-1, 1.98 GAA, .932 SV%, 1 SO)

Bob was pulled Tuesday night after giving up 5 goals in 2 periods, stopping 11 fired his way. He has allowed 3+ goals in 4 straight and 5 of 6 this season. He hasn’t been confirmed, and this one could ultimately go to Spencer Knight.

Shesterkin has been rock solid aside from a 6-goal performance against Utah Oct. 12. He stopped 21 of 23 fired his way Tuesday against Montreal. He was 1-1-0 with a 2.91 GAA and .898 SV% in 2 starts against the Cats last year.

The only concern that I have at press time is that neither goalie has been confirmed. Only Shesterkin has props available, and that’s enough for me to determine where we’re going here. The Rangers win, but they’ve won 4 straight by a combined 20-6 score.

PASS, and take the spread.

Puck line/Against the spread

Here are the final scores of the Rangers’ 4 wins this season: 4-1, 5-2, 4-1 and 7-2. Meanwhile, the Panthers have lost 3 multi-goal games out of 4 this year.

Take the RANGERS -1.5 (+170).

Over/Under

The Over is 6-2-0 for the Panthers thus far, and the Rangers are 3-2-1 O/U.  This Over would hit in the last 3 regular-season meetings between the teams, and I’m all about OVER 5.5 (-120).

New York Rangers at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Rangers at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New York Rangers (3-0-1) travel to meet the Toronto Maple Leafs (3-1-0) at Scotiabank Arena Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Rangers vs. Maple Leafs odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Maple Leafs won regular-season series 2-1 in 2023-24

The Rangers swept a home-and-home series against the Detroit Red Wings Monday and Thursday, and the Blueshirts have managed to light the lamp at least 4 times in all 4 games this season. New York is averaging 5.0 goals per game (GPG) this season, with the Over going 2-1-1.

The Maple Leafs were tripped up 1-0 on the road against the Montreal Canadiens in the opener Oct. 9, but Toronto has won the past 3 games while outscoring the opposition 14-6. The Under has cashed in 3 of 4 outings to date.

Rangers at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (2-0-1, 2.28 GAA, .921 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Anthony Stolarz (2-1-0, 1.70 GAA, .940 SV%)

Shesterkin bounced back from a 6-5 OTL against the Utah Hockey Club last Saturday, giving up just a single goal on 32 shots in a 4-1 victory at Madison Square Garden against the Red Wings Monday night.

He was 1-1-1 with a 3.61 GAA and .885 SV% in 3 starts against the Leafs last season, including 31 saves on 34 shots in a 4-3 SOL in Toronto on March 2, 2024.

Stolarz received no offensive support in a 1-0 loss in the opener at Montreal Oct. 9, but he bounced back with a pair of victories against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings at home.

Rangers at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline

The RANGERS (+110) are worth a look in this Original 6 battle in T-Dot.

New York has been on fire offensively, and it really comes down to goaltending. The Rangers have a world-class tendy in Shesterkin, while the Leafs are doing it with mirrors. Stolarz has been decent for the Leafs, but he isn’t, and has never been, a 1A tendy in the NHL.

While the Maple Leafs (-130) have won 4 of the past 5 in this series, the teams split the 2 battles in Toronto.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Rangers +1.5 (-225) will cost you 2 1/4 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for just a little bit of insurance.

Yes, 5 of the past 9 meetings have been decided by a single goal, you can’t risk this much.

PASS, and just play New York straight up if you like it.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-120) is worth a play, although go lightly. Play a half-unit wager at the most.

The Over cashed in all 3 regular-season meetings last season, and the Over has a 2-1-1 edge in 4 games for the Rangers. New York should be able to get to Stolarz, and Toronto should be able to slip a few pasts Shesty, too.

New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New York Rangers (2-0-1) take on the Detroit Red Wings (1-2-0) Thursday. Puck drop from Little Caesars Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+ / Hulu). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Rangers vs. Red Wings odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Rangers lead 1-0

These teams meet for the back half of a home-and-home Thursday after the Rangers took care of business at their rink Monday with a 4-1 final. Rangers winger Chris Kreider lit the lamp for the 3rd time this season, and C Mika Zibanejad scored his 1st of the season.

Red Wings C Dylan Larkin had the lone goal Monday as he lit the lamp for the 2nd time this season. The Wings have yet to really get their offense going as they were downed 6-3, won 3-0 and were defeated 4-1 in the early going. Their goaltending situation is also in flux with them exposing Ville Husso to waivers to be sent down. It’s still very early, and they’ve had a brutal schedule to open the season. Things should settle in soon.

Rangers at Red Wings odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list of NHL odds. Lines last updated at 1:20 p.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML): Rangers -150 (bet $150 to win $100) | Red Wings +125 (bet $100 to win $125)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Rangers -1.5 (+155) | Red Wings +1.5 (-190)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Rangers at Red Wings projected goalies

Jonathan Quick (18-6-2, 2.62 GAA, .911 SV%, 2 SO last season) vs. Cam Talbot (1-0-0, 1.27 GAA, .964 SV%, 1 SO)

Quick was 2-0-0 with a 3.01 GAA and .903 SV% against the Wings last season. The 38-year-old vet stopped 56 of 62 shots fired his way. This will be his first action of the season, and he was phenomenal early last year with a 0.41 GAA in 3 October games.

Speaking of phenomenal, Talbot stopped all 42 shots the Nashville Predators sent his way Saturday. If that doesn’t do it for ya, he’s 5th in the league with 3.9 goals saved above expected, despite starting just 1 game. He hasn’t faced the Rangers since ’22-23, and he was 2-1-0 with a 2.64 GAA and .916 SV%.

Rangers at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 3, Rangers 2

Moneyline

The Rangers have won 4 straight meetings, and they have 92% of the cash on them. However, I’m going with the home side. They don’t have to contend with G Igor Shesterkin, and Talbot is cooking something serious between the pipes. The Wings came up just short in this scenario last April in a 4-3 final. I look for a low-scoring affair with the RED WINGS +125 coming out ahead.

Puck line/Against the spread

Puck line, schmuck line. I’m going with CAM TALBOT OVER 26.5 SAVES (-120). The Rangers are 2nd in the league with 34 shots on goal per game.

Over/Under

I truly could see this going either way, but shooters shoot. I look for Talbot to make a stand and keep the Rangers under 3 goals. The Wings haven’t exactly been lighting the twine ablaze either, scoring just 7 goals in 3 games.

Take the UNDER 6.5 (-115).

Red Wings at Rangers projected goalies

Cam Talbot (1-00, 3.48 GAA, .964 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (1-0-1, 2.90 GAA, .895 SV%, 1 SO)

Talbot has had a solid start to the season, allowing just 2 goals in 2 games. The 13-year veteran bounced back from a rough 1st game in which he allowed 2 goals off 14 shots to save all 42 shots against Nashville.

Shesterkin started the season with a 31-save shutout performance, however, the 6-year veteran struggled against Utah. He allowed 6 goals on 26 shots (just a .769 SV%).

Red Wings at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Red Wings 1

Moneyline

PASS.

There is minimal value on the Rangers (-200) on Monday.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET RANGERS -1.5 (+120).

The Rangers have scored 11 total goals in 2 games while the Red Wings have just 6 total in 2 games. Behind the home crowd, the Rangers are set for another big night offensively with Shesterkin expected to bounce back from a poor performance on Saturday.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6 (-120).

Talbot and Shesterkin have each already notched a shutout in their 1st 2 games. With 2 premier goalies, scoring will be a tall task for both sides. The Red Wings have scored 3 goals in each of their 1st 2 games, but will likely not be able to keep that pace in their 1st road game.
