It’s hard to imagine the Rangers not riding Shesterkin in Game 4, but he was not confirmed as of early Sunday afternoon. Could they potentially use G Jonathan Quick for the close-out game, resting the starter with a cushion in the series?

Shesterkin has had it on lockdown in this series, going 3-0-0 with a 1.67 GAA and .933 SV% in the 3 outings, allowing just a single goal in 2 of the victories.

Lindgren is confirmed for the Caps, and the Lakeville, Minn., native has certainly done his part. He has allowed 11 total goals in his first full playoff series, going 0-3-0 with a 3.77 GAA and .864 SV%. While he hasn’t been nearly as sharp as Shesterkin, he has been good at times. But he hasn’t been great, and he hasn’t had very much offensive support, with the Caps posting just 1.7 goals per game (GPG) in the series.

The Rangers (-190) will cost nearly 2 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk against a team with its backs against the wall.

The Capitals (+155) are likely to show some fight in what could be their last game of the season, and most likely their final game on home ice, even if they can grab a win and get the series back to New York for Game 5.

Puck line/Against the spread

The CAPITALS +1.5 (-155) aren’t priced out of line as home underdogs on the puck line.

The hardest win to get is the 4th one in a series. The Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers were trying to close out sweeps on Saturday and were unable to do so. The Rangers -1.5 (+130) should experience similar difficulties, as the Capitals show desperation and urgency, trying to stay alive.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (-115) is the lean, but it’s only worth a half-unit play at best.

We’ve had the Under cash in 2 of 3 games in the series, including Game 3 in D.C. The RANGERS (-150) are a strong play on home ice, and the advantage is mainly due to the goaltending situation. Kuemper was good for the Capitals (+130) last time out, but he’ll need to be great to cool off the red-hot Rangers offense.

And Shesterkin has been great for the entire month of December, and Alex Ovechkin and company will be frustrated all night by Igor’s exploits.

The Rangers added a little sandpaper this past offseason, picking up RW Ryan Reaves. He is questionable to play due to a leg injury, however. The Blueshirts won two of four appearances last season in D.C.

Shesterkin showed well against the Capitals last season, going 3-1-0 with a 2.53 GAA and .924 SV% in his four starts. He was a .500 goalie in 18 home decisions, but he posted a 7-5-3 record with a 2.65 GAA on the road in 2020-21.

Samsonov was actually better last season on the road, too. He had a sparkling 9-1-1 record away from home, but he was just 4-3-0 in seven games at home. That’s a bit misleading, however, as Samsonov did post a strong 2.17 GAA with a .916 SV% at home, while he had a 3.01 GAA and .894 SV% on the road.

Against the spread

Rangers +1.5 (-250) is a little on the expensive side, costing you two-and-a-half times your potential return. That’s too much for a little bit of insurance. I like them straight up, and that’s the best value. AVOID.

Over/Under

Georgiev allowed just two goals on 18 shots March 19 against the Caps, falling 2-1. That comes on the heels of a 26-save shutout March 17 in a 9-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at Madison Square Garden. Georgiev has the hot hand right now for the Blueshirts.

Samsonov posted a shutout of the New Jersey Devils Friday, turning aside all 24 shots he faced. G Vitek Vanecek posted the win in the front end of the back-to-back with the Devils Thursday, but Samsonov will get the nod vs. the Rangers. He has allowed a total of just three goals over his previous three outings, winning two of those starts.

The CAPITALS (-130) are a good play at home against a Rangers side which has been playing with a lot of confidence but also just played a hard-fought game in Philadelphia Saturday. The Rangers lost 2-1, and looked a bit sluggish after playing for the fifth time in nine days. Now, they have a sixth game in 10 days. That’s tough for even the most well-conditions team.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Capitals -1.5 (+200) are a tempting play at this price level, but they’re 1-3 against the Rangers +1.5 this season. Their only win over the Blueshirts was by one goal in a 2-1 victory March 19.

PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 6 (-105) is the best play on the board Sunday afternoon. First off, matinee games on the weekend tend to start slowly, and the Under has connected in all four of the previous meetings between these teams. Until the two clubs start ticking off Over results against each other, keep slamming the Under.
