New Mexico State blasts Auburn as 26-point underdog

New Mexico State has its first win over an SEC program, throttling Auburn

You can call it the mother of all trap games. Auburn brought in New Mexico State on Saturday the week before it plays Alabama.

And the Tigers stepped into the bear trap and were devoured by the Aggies, 31-10.

Jerry Kill for Coach of the Year.

The Aggies are 9-3 in a stunning turnaround for a program that had never downed an SEC school before walloping Auburn.

Prior to going 7-6 in 2022, New Mexico State had won a total of 8 games from 2018-2021.

Kill switched the culture and the team’s most dynamic performance came on the road at Auburn.

The game was tied at 7 midway through the second quarter and the Aggies outscored the Tigers 24-3 the rest of the way.

Diego Pavia completed 19-of-28 passes for 201 yards and 2 TDs.

New Mexico State had 414 yards of total offense and limited Auburn to 213.

It controlled the ball for 38:50.

As we said, Jerry Kill for Coach of the Year.

Former Penn State LB Jamari Buddin announces transfer decision

Former Penn State linebacker has announced his transfer portal destination

After exploring all of his options in the transfer portal, former Penn State linebacker [autotag]Jamari Buddin[/autotag] has decided where he will be continuing his college football career. In a message posted on his social media account on Wednesday, Buddin announced he will be transferring to New Mexico State University.

“Thank you to all the coaches who have reached out and gave me another opportunity to pursue my dream,” Buddin said in a message posted to his Twitter account on Wednesday. “[It] has been a long and stressful process and I have spent a lot of time thinking about what’s best for my future, but after much prayer, I have decided to further my academic and athletic career at New Mexico State University.”

Buddin has three seasons of eligibility left to put to use at New Mexico State, an FBS independent school. The former four-star linebacker recruit in Penn State’s Class of 2021 should have a good opportunity to find a bigger role in the defense with New Mexico State, and he has plenty of potential to be a breakout player with his new teammates.

Liberty clobbered as buzz surrounds Hugh Freeze heading to Auburn

Liberty didn’t respond well on the field to the buzz Hugh Freeze is heading to Auburn

You could consider this a team giving up on its coach before said coach gives up and leaves the school for another job.

Hugh Freeze is reported to be deep in negotiations that will make him Auburn’s next football coach.

On Saturday, his Flames were torched in a home game by New Mexico State, 49-14.

Liberty came in 8-3 and the Aggies were 4-6.

Diego Pavia accounted for 6 touchdowns as New Mexico State reached 5 wins for the second time since 2005.

Freeze evaded the Auburn question better than his players dodged Aggies.

Men’s college golf notebook: Garrison Smith sets New Mexico State record, Texas Tech captures Big 12 match play

Here’s what you missed in the men’s college golf world.

It’s safe to say it was a good week for Garrison Smith and the New Mexico State men’s golf team.

The Aggies won the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate for the third straight season, cruising to a 20-shot victory over second-place Seattle University and Weber State.

Smith, a senior, ran away with the individual title, shooting a 15-under 198 at University Golf Course in Las Crusas, New Mexico. The 198 total is the lowest 54-hole score in New Mexico State history. This season, Smith has yet to finish worse than third place. He has recorded two third-place finishes to go along with his victory. He had only two bogeys en route to his win.

New Mexico State was the only team to shoot below par, finishing at 20 under. California Baptist came in fourth, one shot behind Seattle University and Weber State, and Western New Mexico placed fifth at 12 over.

In the individual competition, Texas A&M Commerce’s Nathan McCulloch placed second at 8 under. Texas Tech’s Gustav Andersson placed third at 4 under, along with New Mexico State’s Aiden Thomas. Weber State’s Cameron Gray rounded out the top five, finishing at 3 under.

Texas Tech captures Big 12 Match Play

Ludvig Abert and Calum Scott have been terrific for Texas Tech this fall. That’s why it’s no surprise when the Red Raiders needed their duo to step up in the Big 12 match play final against Oklahoma, they did just that.

Aberg and Scott secured the final 1.5 points, as Texas Tech topped the Sooners 3.5-2.5 in the championship match at The Club at Houston Oaks in Houston to win for the second time this fall. Aberg birdied the 18th hole to put the Red Raiders up 3-2, and Scott followed that up with a big par putt to halve the 18th and earn the half point, securing the victory for Texas Tech.

Jack Wall had a 4 and 3 victory to get a point for the Red Raiders earlier in the match. Texas Tech beat defending national champion Texas earlier in the day to advance to the championship match, while the Sooners defeated in-state rival Oklahoma State. The Cowboys fell against TCU in the third-place match.

Oklahoma gets $5 million donation to renovate practice facilities

Speaking of the Sooners, their practice facilities are about to receive a big facelift.

Oklahoma announced a $5 million gift from longtime golf supporter Jerry Ransom that will support the modernization of the existing Charlie Coe Center and the creation of a new indoor golf performance center.

The upcoming facility improvements to the Charlie Coe Center will result in a renovated clubhouse that includes suites for both men’s and women’s programs and a multi-purpose area that will showcase each program’s history. Each suite will feature a locker room, a players lounge, coaches offices and a rest-and-recovery space.

In addition to these improvements, the gift will create a indoor performance center. The center will include six hitting bays equipped with world-class swing analysis technology, a putting studio, putting lab, a golf simulator and conference rooms for team instruction.

Winner of The Clerico will get exemption into Korn Ferry Tour event

Win a college event, get an exemption into a Korn Ferry Tour event.

The individual champion of next week’s The Clerico at The Oaks Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, will also earn an exemption into one of the newest Korn Ferry Tour’s events, the Compliance Solutions Championship at Jimmie Austin Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma.

The teams competing are Missouri State, New Mexico State, Oral Roberts, Rice, Southern Utah, Stephen F. Austin State, Texas State, University of Missouri Kansas City, Northern Iowa, South Alabama, UTSA, and Utah State. Individuals from Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will compete, too. LOOK: Wisconsin rebounds against New Mexico State 66-7

Photos from Wisconsin football’s dominant victory over the New Mexico State Aggies:

After a tough loss to the Washington State Cougars, the Wisconsin Badgers dominated the New Mexico State Aggies 66-7 in the final game of the Badgers’ three-game homestretch at Camp Randall Stadium.

The phenomenal performance was led by a great effort from Jim Leonhard’s defense which had three interceptions. The Badgers also limited the Aggies to only 242 total yards, which mostly came in the second half against their backups.

On offense, quarterback Graham Mertz had a great game finishing with 251 passing yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Wisconsin RB Braelon Allen continued his good form with 86 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

It is great to see the Badgers rebound after a difficult loss, especially ahead of their matchup next week on the road against the No. 3-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

Below are photos from Wisconsin football’s dominant victory over the New Mexico State Aggies:

Twitter reacts to Wisconsin CB Ricardo Hallman’s one-handed interception

Some of the best Twitter reactions to Wisconsin CB Ricardo Hallman’s one-handed interception:

After a successful early drive on offense against the New Mexico State Aggies, the Wisconsin Badgers made a phenomenal stop on defense with an outstanding one-handed interception from redshirt freshman cornerback Ricardo Hallman.

Hallman made the play along the sideline by running the route ahead of Aggies WR Kordell Davis while creating separation to make the fantastic one-handed grab. The Badgers are asserting their dominance early over 0-3 New Mexico State, as the Badgers have been able to score on the ground and shut down the Aggies’ offense.

It is great to see the Badgers rebounding on both sides of the ball after an upset loss to the Washington State Cougars last week.

Wisconsin vs. New Mexico State: Stream, injury report, broadcast info for Saturday

How to watch the Wisconsin Badgers against the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday:

The Wisconsin Badgers play the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday afternoon, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Badgers will need to get back on the right track after a tough loss to the Washington State Cougars, and should. hopefully, be able to do so against the 0-3 Aggies.

A key part of doing this will be reestablishing their dominant run game behind running back Braelon Allen who has rushed 246 yards and two touchdowns so far this season. Wisconsin will need to see more from the offensive line that struggled with penalties and miscues in run blocking last week.

The Badgers need to right the ship before heading on the road in Week 4 to match up against their first Big Ten opponent of the season, the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Big Ten Week 1 Rewind: All Big Ten results and updated standings

Ohio State’s big finish vs Notre Dame, Iowa has the most Iowa win, and don’t be fooled by the Nebraska final score. The Big Ten Week 1 rewind is live.

We may have gotten an early taste of Big Ten football in Week 0, but the Week 1 slate saw 13 of 14 Big Ten members in action from Thursday night through Saturday night. And it was a doozy to get us started. Ohio State had its mega showdown with Notre Dame in Ohio Stadium to highlight the weekend slate not just for the Big Ten, but the entire top 25.

Elsewhere, you simply had to see how Iowa won its game to believe it, and Nebraska somehow managed to come up with a final score that wasn’t nearly as comfortable as it might seem. Penn State started the weekend off with a thriller against Purdue on Thursday night, and Indiana followed the next night with a victory down to the wire against Illinois.

Northwestern was off in Week 1 after taking care of Nebraska in Week 0 in Ireland. Here’s how the rest of the weekend went around the Big Ten, including the Thursday and Friday results.

New Mexico State Aggies Preview 2022

There’s hope.

The program that hasn’t had a whole lot of fun has a new coach, a new vision, and it’s got a conference to play in when it joins Conference USA next year.

Doug Martin gave it one heck of a run.

He kept plugging away year after year in an impossible situation, busted through in a wonderful 2017 campaign with a winning season and bowl victory – the only winning season in his 16 runs as a head coach – but after nine years New Mexico State has a new head man.

Enter Jerry Kill, a magnificent head coach who’s been able to win everywhere he has been, but medical issues derailed his time at Minnesota.

He’s been an assistant ever since, and now he’s getting a shot to do what he does with a program that won more than three games just once since 2011 and enjoyed one winning season since 2002.

This team will get good offensive line play, and there will be more from the ground game, but more than anything else, it’s about getting the pieces in place for 2023.

New Mexico State Aggies Preview 2022: Offense

Again, a Jerry Kill team will want to run the ball. His teams are built on controlling the clock, grinding it out, and playing a tight style without a lot of mistakes. That’s easier said than done with what he has to work with, but there’s a decent amount of experience returning for offensive coordinator Tim Beck to work with.

The offensive line. To keep hammering this home, Kill will end up making the offensive line solid. Last year’s group couldn’t get much going for the ground game, and the pass protection wasn’t there, but there’s three starters are expected back and there’s good versatility to play around with the lineup.

Leading rusher Juwaun Price is off to Syracuse – he ran for 693 yards and ten scores – putting the pressure on former Michigan Wolverine O’Maury Samuels and TCU transfer Ahmonte Watkins to carry the load.

The Aggies lost top quarterback Jonah Johnson to the transfer portal, and it’s going to take a little scrambling this fall camp to settle in. Sophomore Weston Eget is a big passer who completed just one of ten throws in his time last year, and junior Dino Maldonado can run a bit.

For all of the team’s problems, there was a surprisingly deep receiving corps. That’s going to be put to the test with deep threat Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda bolting for Nebraska and Terrell Warner in the transfer portal.

This year, pretty much everyone who did much of anything big last year is gone. This will be a very young, very inexperienced bunch.

New Mexico State Aggies Preview 2022: Defense

The defense was the bigger problem last year. The offense wasn’t always great, but the defense provided no help allowing 489 yards and 40 points per game. On the plus side, eight starters are expected back and there’s enough transfer portal help to make a difference.

The secondary has a whole lot of options now. As is the cornerbacks are experienced – DJ McCullough led the team with three picks and Syrus Dumas was second with two – but on the way is Mekhi Miller from Maryland and Andrew Seldon from Michigan to provide some help. They all need to make more stops for a secondary that gave up 291 yards an outing.

With Chris Ojoh – the team’s leading sacker with six – flirting with the transfer portal and then sticking around, and with Trevor Brohard back in the middle with the game to go along with his name, the linebacking corps should be an early strength.

The front three is back full along with veterans for a decent rotation. There has to be a whole lot more happening against the run, but there’s size around end Donavan King – one of the team’s best at getting into the backfield.
