New Mexico at St. John’s odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New Mexico at St. John’s odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New Mexico Lobos (3-0) and the No. 25 St. John’s Red Storm (3-0) meet Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Tip-off is scheduled for noon ET (FS1). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the New Mexico vs. St. John’s odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Lobos steam in with 3 consecutive wins to open the season, including a 72-64 victory over a ranked UCLA team in Henderson, Nev., in a neutral-floor game as a 4.5-point underdog. UNM is 2-1 against the spread (ATS), while scoring 91 or more points in 2 of 3 outings to cash high twice, too.

The Red Storm is also unbeaten through 3 games, although the victories are against the Fordham Rams, Quinnipiac Bobcats and Wagner Seahawks. St. John’s is 2-1 ATS in those games, while cashing high twice in 3 outings. The Johnnies have scored 92 points or more in 2 of those games.

New Mexico at St. John’s picks and predictions

Prediction

New Mexico 79, St. John’s 74

Moneyline

NEW MEXICO (+390) is worth a roll of the dice for the chance to nearly quadruple up.

The Lobos have already been tested against a top-tier opponent, knocking off UCLA in Vegas. Who has St. John’s (-530) played?

Against the spread

If you’re not sold on NEW MEXICO +9.5 (-102) straight up, it is still a tremendous value catching more than 4 buckets in this battle at MSG.

Again, St. John’s -9.5 (-120) has been impressive in wins against lower-tier teams, but this will easily be its biggest test. We don’t know how the Johnnies will react actually playing a decent opponent, while we’ve seen UNM pass a tough test already.

Over/Under

UNDER 162.5 (-106) is a decent option in this battle in New York City.

Both of these teams have piled up the points against lower-tier teams, but against the best opponent they’ve each faced, we should see scores down considerably.

Yes, UNM hit the century mark against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last time out, and it has gone for 91 or more points twice. But, let’s pump the brakes, and look to the UCLA game. That’s a better indicator of what to expect here.

Washington State at New Mexico picks and predictions

Prediction

Washington State 38, New Mexico 24

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on the Cougars (-400) to win Saturday night.

Against the spread

BET WASHINGTON STATE -10.5 (-115).

Washington State has covered 3 of its last 4 games and scored 42 or more points in 2 of its last 3.

New Mexico has failed to cover 2 of its last 3 games overall and is just 1-2 ATS in its last 3 at home. It has allowed 45 or more points in 2 of its last 4 games.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 71.5 (-110).

This total is among the highest for either team this season, and while both teams can score in droves, the Under is the best play. The Cougars have scored 29 or fewer points in 3 of their last 5 games while allowing 28 or fewer in each of their last 4.

The Lobos have scored 21 or fewer points while allowing 17 or fewer in 2 of their last 3 games.

New Mexico vs. UCLA odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New Mexico vs. UCLA odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New Mexico Lobos (0-1) and the No. 22 UCLA Bruins (1-0) meet at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson, Nevada. on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 p.m. ET (CBSSN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the New Mexico vs. UCLA odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Lobos snuck by Nicholls State in the opener in Albuquerque, winning 91-84, but UNM came nowhere near covering as an 18-point favorite as the Over (151.5) cashed. C Nelly Junior Joseph led the way with 28 points with 16 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, 2 assists and 2 steals, He was 1 of 5 players in double digits with points.

Meanwhile, the Bruins pounded Rider of the MAAC on Monday night, winning 85-50 as a 22-point favorite as the Under (140) came in. UCLA was led by F Tyler Bilodeau, as he managed a team-high 18 points with 6 boards, while 3 others also went for 12 or more points.

New Mexico vs. UCLA picks and predictions

Prediction

UCLA 89, New Mexico 77

Moneyline

UCLA (-230) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return. For a straight up wager, that’s just a little bit too much. However, as part of a multi-team parlay, it would be perfectly OK to include the Bruins in your ticket.

AVOID, as far as a standalone bet is concerned.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread

UCLA -5.5 (-110) is a strong play in this neutral-floor battle against New Mexico +5.5 (-110).

While UCLA was super impressive in the opener, it faced a low-level opponent. However, UNM struggled defensively in the opener against Nicholls, and the Bruins should be able to take it to them, especially after wearing them down in the second half.

Over/Under

OVER 152.5 (-115) is the best play on the board in this game.

UCLA did cash low in the opener, but it was good for 85 points on offense, including 10 successful 3-pointers. The Bruins were just 7-of-12 from the free-throw line, and that’s an area where they could make Over bettors pull out their hair.

For New Mexico, it combined for 175 points against a smallish Nicholls team. The Lobos jacked up 7 triples on 36 attempts, hitting just 19.4% from behind the arc. If UNM improves from long distance, that will obviously help the Over.

New Mexico at Arizona odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New Mexico at Arizona odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New Mexico Lobos (0-1) and Arizona Wildcats (0-0) meet Saturday at Arizona Stadium in Tucson. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the New Mexico vs. Arizona odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Lobos faced FCS power Montana State in Week 0 Aug. 24, and it led 31-14 heading into the 4th quarter. New Mexico held a 31-21 lead with 4½ minutes to go, but the Bobcats struck for 2 late scores to steal the game in the ABQ.

UNM was gouged for 362 rushing yards and 567 total yards while producing just 324 total yards of offense. The Lobos had 2 TDs thanks to scoop-and-scores, including the opening score of the game just 4:23 in. MSU RB Adam Jones had a 93-yard TD run with 4:35 to close the gap to 31-28, while RB Scottre Humphrey scored on a 4-yard TD run with just 10 seconds left to spoil Bronco Mendenhall’s coaching debut.

It’s a historic game for Arizona, as it marks its 1st football game as a member of the Big 12 Conference, although, of course, this isn’t a league game. It’s also the 1st game under coach Brent Brennan, as Jedd Fisch bolted for the Washington job.

The Wildcats have a strong offensive core in place with QB Noah Fifita and WR Tetairoa McMillan. Arizona added 2 tremendous tailbacks via the portal, grabbing Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Quali Conley IV.

Croskey-Merritt will actually be facing his former team after putting up 1,190 rushing yards, 6.3 yards per gain and 17 TDs last season in Albuquerque, the senior’s lone season with UNM after 3 years at Alabama State of the FCS.

For Arizona, its defense is slightly concerning with just 5 starters back, and the defensive line will be a work in progress from the jump.

Arizona is No. 21 in the US LBM Coaches Poll — conducted by the American Football Coaches Association and USA TODAY Sports.

New Mexico at Arizona picks and predictions

Prediction

Arizona 51, New Mexico 13

Moneyline

Arizona (-10000) will cost you 100 times your potential return. In other words, that’s $100 risked for every $1 won. Does it even need to be said how bad of an idea that is?

PASS.

Against the spread

Play ARIZONA -30.5 (-110) laying the points.

While New Mexico +30.5 (-110) was able to post 31 points at home last week, it looks more impressive than it is. First, while Montana State is a top-tier FCS team, it’s still in the subdivision. And UNM lost to it. In fact, New Mexico’s defense was hot garbage, and the only reason the Lobos had half of their touchdowns was due to a pair of opportunistic fumble returns.

UNM will struggle to move the ball against Arizona, even if the Wildcats are retooling the defensive line and have some issues up front to sort out. And the Wildcats could literally go wild against this Lobos defense.

Over/Under

The OVER 58.5 (-110) is a solid play here.

Arizona could do most of the heavy lifting to get this total across the finish line. Fifita and McMillan are a lethal pass-catch combo, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them hook up for multiple scores. And, don’t forget that there is the Croskey-Merritt revenge factor as he kicks it into a higher gear against his former team.

Look for Arizona to get into the 50s. We might not even need UNM to get into double digits to get this one over.

Montana State at New Mexico odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Montana State vs. New Mexico odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Montana State Bobcats visit the New Mexico Lobos Saturday afternoon. Kick from University Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Montana State vs. New Mexico odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Montana State finished 8-4 last season including 6-2 in the Big Sky Conference, tied for 2nd overall. The Bobcats’ offense was their strength, scoring 34 or more points in 9 games while the defense allowed 22 or fewer points in 8 games. The Bobcats hope to pick up where they left off with a road win to open the season.

New Mexico finished just 4-8 in 2023 including 2-6 in the Mountain West Conference, tied for last. While the offense was able to produce for the Lobos, the defense allowed 31 or more points in 8 different games, which the team will hope to change this season. They were just 1-4 against major programs.

Montana State at New Mexico picks and predictions

Prediction

Montana State 41, New Mexico 24

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on Montana State (-550) to win Saturday.

Against the spread

BET MONTANA STATE -13.5 (-110).

Even though the Bobcats are on the road and a 2-possession favorite, they are still the best bet in this matchup. Returning critical players from last year’s team, Montana State is capable of running up a score while its defense gets continual stops. Expect Montana State to score early and often while putting this game out of reach.

Over/Under

BET OVER 54.5 (-110).

Montana State alone will play a large role in the Over hitting. They opened last season by scoring 57 or more points in 2 of their 3 games and 38 or more points in 6 of their first 7 games. New Mexico will ride the home momentum, which will allow it to contribute to the total points.

March Madness: New Mexico vs. Clemson odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New Mexico vs. Clemson odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 11 seed New Mexico Lobos (26-9) face off against the 6th-seeded Clemson Tigers (21-11) Friday in a 1st-round game in the NCAA Tournament. Tip from FedExForum in Memphis is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. ET (truTV). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the New Mexico vs. Clemson odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

New Mexico went on an improbable 4-game run through the Mountain West Conference Tournament, capped by a 68-61 title-game victory as a 2-point underdog over the No. 25 San Diego State Aztecs with the Under (144) cashing. The Lobos are led in scoring by senior G Jaelen House’s 16.1 points per game, but they also have F JT Toppin, who surprised everyone on his way to being named MWC Co-Freshman of the Year. He nearly averaged a double-double this season at 12.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. New Mexico is 23-11 against the spread (ATS) for the season, including 4-0 ATS in MWC Tourney.

The Tigers suffered a disappointing 2nd-round exit from the ACC Tournament, losing to the Boston College Eagles 76-55. They lost as 7.5-point favorites and the Under (145.5) cashed. Despite the early exit in the ACC Tourney, this team has an impressive resume of 6 victories over NCAA Tournament teams. Clemson is 17-14-1 ATS, including 3-3-1 ATS in their last 7 regular-season games.

New Mexico vs. Clemson picks and predictions

Prediction

New Mexico 77, Clemson 72

Moneyline

PASS.

We’ve got an odds play, but I’m going to stay away from the moneyline and look to the spread for this bet. We’ll be giving less than 3 points with New Mexico and we’ll be getting less juice. When we’ve got a line that big, it’s basically the same as taking the moneyline, so I’ll take the better odds.

Against the spread

BET NEW MEXICO -2.5 (-106).

I love this New Mexico squad, which enters on a 6-0 ATS run. The Lobos bring a lot to the court and the Tigers will struggle to stop their offensive attack. Four players for New Mexico average over 10 points per game, led by House’s 16.1.

The committee disrespected the MWC, under-seeding some of its teams in the Big Dance, including the Lobos. We saw what Colorado State did to Virginia in the First Four Tuesday, winning 67-42.

Clemson limped to the finish line this season, losing 2 of its last 3 regular-season games and getting waxed in the ACC Tournament.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

BET UNDER 151.5 (-110).

The trends are too hard to ignore heading into this matchup. The Under is 5-1 in the Lobos’ last 6 games, while the Tigers are 3-7 O/U in their last 10.

I typically like to bet the Under in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament. Teams are playing in venues they’re not accustomed to, they’ll be going through new routines, and they usually have to face an unknown opponent. There is a feeling-out process early in the game before everyone gets into a flow. This is too high number for a 1st-round tilt.

Mountain West Tournament: New Mexico vs. San Diego State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New Mexico vs. San Diego State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New Mexico Lobos (25-9) and San Diego State Aztecs (24-9) meet in the Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship Game Saturday at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the New Mexico vs. San Diego State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The 6th-seeded Lobos have scored 3 straight wins over Air Force, Boise State and Colorado State while going 3-0 against the spread (ATS) with 3 straight Under results in this tournament. It’s a stark contrast to the way UNM finished the regular season, as it was just 1-3 straight up (SU) in the final 4 games while covering only 2 of the final 6 regular-season games.

The 5th-seeded Aztecs, the defending national runner-up, topped UNLV and Utah State to get back to the final. San Diego State has split the spread while cashing the Over in the 2 tournament games.

These teams split the regular-season series, with New Mexico winning 88-70 in The Pit in ABQ Jan. 13, cashing as a 3.5-point favorite. San Diego State won at Viejas Arena Feb. 16 to cover as a 6-point favorite. The Over cashed in both meetings.

New Mexico vs. San Diego State picks and predictions

Prediction

San Diego State 72, New Mexico 66

Moneyline

SAN DIEGO STATE (-134) isn’t priced out of line if you want to pick a winner and not worry about the points.

The Aztecs can tap into the experience of last season’s run to the national title game to get them through. While New Mexico (+112) has played well in this tourney, it struggled down the stretch of the regular season. San Diego State is the team with more experience, and a little more balance.

Against the spread

SAN DIEGO STATE -2.5 (-105) is a solid play laying the little bit of points.

The Aztecs halted a 4-game ATS skid with the win and cover over Utah State Friday. There is risk here, but they have owned New Mexico State +2.5 (-115) over the years, going 6-3-1 ATS in the past 10 meetings in this series.

The last time these teams met, the Aztecs hammered the Lobos by 11. Look for San Diego State to keep up the good word, claim the conference tournament title, and get ready for another run in the NCAA Tournament.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 141.5 (-110) is a solid play in this MWC title game.

The Lobos have gone 3-for-3 in this tourney, relying heavily upon defense to get the job done. New Mexico has allowed 62.3 PPG in the 3 games in Vegas.

The Aztecs have allowed 70.5 PPG in the 2 tourney wins, and the Under is 6-4 across the past 10 games dating back to Feb. 9. The Under has hit in 4 of the past 6 meetings in this series, too.

New Mexico at Utah State picks and predictions

Prediction

Utah State 84, New Mexico 79

Moneyline

PASS.

I’m confident that the Aggies (-176) win this game, but I’d rather not buy into all that juice. I’ll save my money for the spread instead.

Against the spread

BET UTAH STATE -3.5 (-114).

Utah State had won 7 straight meetings before New Mexico won in the Pit Jan. 16. The Aggies also covered the spread in 6 of the last 8 head-to-head battles.

Utah State has covered the spread in 2 of its last 3 home games.

New Mexico has covered just once in its last 5 overall and lost straight up and ATS in back-to-back road games.

The Aggies will get their revenge against the Lobos at the Spectrum Saturday night.

Over/Under

PASS.

I do not see any advantage either way on this bet. These teams are 4-4-2 going over the total in the last 10 meetings. I’ll save my bet for the spread.

Following a 14-0 start to the season, the Lobos were looking to be headed into March Madness. Now the Lobos will need to likely win the Mountain West Conference Tournament to get an invite to the dance.

Miami (Ohio) at Buffalo picks and predictions

Prediction

New Mexico 88, Colorado State 75

Moneyline

PASS.

New Mexico is not bad value at -155 in this game. With the struggles it has had since entering conference play, this would normally be the way to go. But the Rams have phoned it in.

After losing 63-46 to San Jose State on Tuesday, I do not see the Rams putting up much fight here. The Lobos are still fighting for a postseason berth and this should propel the Lobos forward. Adding this to a parlay would be a fine play. But I would even consider adding the ATS number of -2.5 to a  parlay for better payout. I feel this strongly about the Lobos in this spot.

Against the spread

NEW MEXICO -2.5 (-105).

After defeating the Rams by 12 at home in December, the Lobos only enter this game as 2.5-point favorites. And the line is favoring the Rams. Why? This is the question without an answer.

The Rams have not done well this season and with this being the final weekend before the conference tournament, I do not see the Rams getting things together.

One of the areas Colorado State has struggled with this season is against good teams. Even at home, the Rams are 1-6 ATS in its last 7 against a team with a winning road record.

Look for the Lobos to use its offense to control this game from start to finish and easily cover the -2.5.

Over/Under

OVER 156.5 (-110).

This line jumped a full point as I typed this preview. Las Vegas knows something and I am willing to play along.

Colorado State has allowed its games to go Over in 17 of 28 games this season. This includes 10 of 13 following an ATS loss in its earlier outing. The Rams have also gone Over the total in 9 of 10 games against a team with a  winning percentage above .600.

These numbers bode well for a New Mexico team which ranks 15th in the country in offense at 81.1 points per game and is going against a defense allowing 71.4 points (222nd). With New Mexico 13th in the country at 48.7% from the field, this could easily hit the Over with time to spare.

San Diego State at New Mexico odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s San Diego State at New Mexico odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 20 San Diego State Aztecs (22-5, 13-2 Mountain West) visit the New Mexico Lobos (20-8, 7-8) in The Pit Saturday at 10 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the San Diego State vs. New Mexico odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

New Mexico was the final team in the nation to suffer a loss this season. After starting out 14-0, the Lobos have struggled to a 6-8 record since.

One of those 6 victories was a 76-67 win as an 8-point road underdog at San Diego State Jan. 14 when the Aztecs were ranked No. 25. The road has been a bit rocky since for the Lobos. They’re 1-4 straight up (SU) and 2-2-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 5 road games. Their last game was an 82-77 loss at Boise State Wednesday, pushing as a 5-point underdog with the Over of 149.5 cashing.

The Aztecs are on a 5-game winning streak, most recently rolling to a 77-58 decision as 10-point home favorites against Colorado State Tuesday.

San Diego State will look to its defense, which allows 64.6 points per game according to Covers.com, to hold down a New Mexico offense that ranks 18th at 81.0 PPG. The Aztecs were unable to accomplish this in the first outing, but doing so Saturday would mean a conference title while also severely hurting the Lobos’ chances of earning an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament.

San Diego State at New Mexico picks and predictions

Prediction

New Mexico 78, San Diego State 73

Moneyline

BET NEW MEXICO (+125).

The Aztecs have lost just 2 conference games this season, one being to the home loss to the Lobos. A trip to The Pit Saturday could mean a 3rd MWC loss for San Diego State.

This game will not do much one way or another for the Aztecs, outside of seeding for the NCAA tourney, but the Lobos need a win in this game for their resume.

The Lobos will come out firing and will pull off another upset of the Aztecs — this time at home.

I’ll take the underdog moneyline here and BACK THE LOBOS (+125).

Against the spread

PASS.

Since I’m backing the New Mexico moneyline, there’s no need to wager on the spread.

I like the better value with the +125 moneyline. But if you want the safety of taking the points, I wouldn’t blame anyone for betting New Mexico +3.5 (-120).

Over/Under

TAKE OVER 147.5 (-105).

While this number is a bit high, both teams have played games Over recently.

New Mexico is 7-1-1 to the Over in its last 9 games and 4-1 to the Over in its last 5 following a loss, per Covers.com.

While this game hit the Under 147 in San Diego in January, the Lobos score at home and will do so here. The. The previous meeting in The Pit saw San Diego State go for 85. While this Aztecs team will not get there, the Lobos could and this makes me like OVER 147.5 (-105).
