The Nebraska football team added another transfer to their roster. Former USC cornerback Ceyair Wright officially transferred to the Huskers on Friday afternoon.

Wright spent three seasons with the Trojans. He entered the transfer portal in late May after being benched during the 2023 season. Prior to the season, he started 11 games in 2022 and over 30 games in his career at USC, delivering 40 tackles and one interception.

A Top 100 recruit in the 2021 class, Wright played football at Loyola High School before heading to USC. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior will have two years of eligibility remaining when he arrives at Nebraska.

He will join a deep defensive back room containing D’Andre Barnes, Mario Buford, and Jeremiah Charles.

Wright is also an actor, a fourth-year junior. He has appeared in movies such as “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” in which he plays one of LeBron James’ sons, and the series “Grown-ish,” in which he has a recurring role as Zeke Bracey.

Former Lincoln Southwest kicker John Hohl announced on Friday that he is transferring to Nebraska for the 2024 season.

The Nebraska football team made another offseason addition to its roster, this time in the kicking department. Former Lincoln Southwest kicker John Hohl announced on Friday that he is transferring to Nebraska for the 2024 season.

Hohl previously attended Iowa Western Community College and redshirted his freshman year in 2023. He arrives at Nebraska with four years of eligibility remaining. Hohl garnered attention from his performance at a Kohl’s Kicking showcase in late May.

His performance earned him the rank of top transfer kicker at the event. Following the event, Hohl also received an offer from Coastal Carolina, temporarily joining the Chanticleers. However, Hohl instead opted to walk on at Nebraska, earning a spot on the roster for the upcoming season.

Hohl is now one of three kickers for the Huskers, joining Tristan Alvano and incoming true freshman Nico Ottomanelli.

Nebraska football lands NAIA Player of the Year Jalyn Gramstad

The newest addition to the Huskers is the reigning NAIA Player of the Year. 

The Nebraska football team landed another player from the transfer portal Thursday afternoon. The newest addition to the Huskers is the reigning NAIA Player of the Year.

Jalyn Gramstad announced on social media that he will be playing for Nebraska this season. He made the announcement following his participation at the Huskers postgraduate camp earlier this month.

Gramstad previously played four seasons at Northwestern College, taking the backfield at quarterback. Gramstad led the Red Raiders to a 14-1 season, falling in the NAIA Championship. The Lester, Iowa native led the team with by throwing for 3,681 yards, 35 touchdowns and just nine interceptions with an NAIA-leading 67.8% completion percentage. He also rushed for 780 yards and eight touchdowns on 780 rushing yards.

This performance earned Gramstad the title of NAIA Player of the Year to cap off a stellar career at Northwestern College. Through 52 games, he threw 438 completions off 647 attempts for 6,237 passing yards and 60 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,822 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns off 327 carries.

Gramstad now joins a quarterback room that includes five-star freshman Dylan Raiola, Bellevue West star Danny Kaelin and Heinrich Haarberg.

Borders spent only one season with the Huskers. He spent time with the Florida Gators before coming to Lincoln. In his lone season with the program, Borders recorded nine tackles, including half a tackle for loss and one pass breakup.

Prior to arriving in Gainesville, the four-star recruit played in the 2021 Under Armour All-America Game. He initially chose Florida over Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan State and Stanford.

During his freshman year, he appeared in four games before being redshirted for the remainder of the season. In 2022, he appeared in all 12 games and played a primary role on special teams.

Buckley started his Husker career as a defensive lineman who converted to an interior offensive lineman midway through the 2023 season. He is now Nebraska’s fourth portal entry this week.

Linebacker Chief Borders, linebacker Korver Demman, and walk-on quarterback Jack Woche previously entered the transfer portal. Buckley, a three-star prospect in the class of 2021, came to Lincoln via Wyoming, Michigan.

A former Nebraska quarterback announced his transfer destination: Jeff Sims will play the 2024 season for the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Sims started the Huskers’ opening game of the 2023 season. He struggled in his only season in Lincoln, throwing for 282 yards and one touchdown with six interceptions.

The quarterback added 189 rushing yards on 42 carries with one touchdown. Sims started the first two games of the season before losing the starting job due to turnovers. He appeared in only three games the rest of the season.

The Sun Devils have three scholarship quarterbacks on their roster. Senior Trenton Bourguet and redshirt freshman Sam Leavitt are the only other two on the roster after quarterback Jade Rashada entered the transfer portal.

A former Nebraska safety has announced his transfer destination. Corey Collier has transferred from the Cornhuskers to Florida A&M.

Collier Jr. joined Nebraska for the 2023 season after spending the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Florida Gators. In his only season at Nebraska, the safety appeared in five games but did not record any tackles. In his collegiate career, Collier has played in 10 games over three seasons, recording one tackle in the process.

Collier committed to Florida at the time, despite offers from Auburn, Baylor, Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Miami (FL), Michigan, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Penn State, among others.

Nebraska’s rising junior edge rusher, Chief Borders, has decided to continue his collegiate career elsewhere. The Chicago, Illinois native decided to enter the transfer portal on Monday after spending one season with the program.

In his lone season with the program, Borders recorded nine tackles, including half a tackle for loss and one pass breakup. He also spent two seasons with the Florida Gators, playing in 16 games over two seasons, including 12 games in 2022.

Borders was a three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle, according to both 247Sports and Rivals, while ESPN ranked Borders as a four-star star prospect and the No.124 prospect in the country.

He originally committed and signed with Florida over offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, and others.

Nebraska transfer portal target Dylan Edwards has committed to Kansas State.

Nebraska transfer portal target Dylan Edwards, a rising sophomore tailback who was most recently with the Colorado Buffaloes, has found his next destination.

The Derby, Kansas native, is returning to his home state and will play for Kansas State. He announced his decision on X, posting a tweet of him in Kansas City gear with the home emoji.

Edwards appeared to be on track for a major season in 2023 as a true freshman after a phenomenal debut against TCU in which he recorded five receptions for 135 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a 45-42 win for Colorado.

He would, however, finish with just 76 rushing attempts for 321 yards and one touchdown. He also had 36 receptions for 299 yards and four touchdowns.
