A former Nebraska running back has announced his retirement from the National Football League. Rex Burkhead has retired after ten seasons in the NFL.

The former Husker played for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans over the course of his decade in the league. The native Texan played for Nebraska from 2009-2012.

During his Cornhusker career, he ran for 3,329 yards and 30 touchdowns. His best season came in 2011 when he recorded 1,357 rushing yards for 15 touchdowns.

Following his Nebraska career, he would be selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL draft. Burkhead would also win a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.

A former Nebraska running back has announced his retirement from the National Football League. Rex Burkhead has retired from the NFL after ten seasons.

He played for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans in his ten seasons. The Texas native won a Super Bowl with the Patriots during the 2018 season.

Burkhead finishes his professional career with 1,908 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. He also had 192 catches for 1,534 yards and nine touchdowns.

He made his announcement on social media.

Former Husker lands NFL coaching job

A former Nebraska football player will be headed back to the NFL next season, as a coach.

A former Nebraska football player will be headed back to the NFL next season, as a coach. The Atlanta Falcons have named Barrett Ruud as the team’s inside linebacker coach.

Ruud will be reunited with new Falcons head coach Raheem Morris. The two worked together in Tampa Bay when Ruud played for the Bucs, and Morris was a defensive assistant.

Ruud played for Nebraska from 2001-2004. He finished his Husker career with a school record 432 career tackles.

After the conclusion of his Cornhusker football career, he was taken in the second round of the NFL by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ruud finished his NFL career, having appeared in 113 career games, recording 658 total tackles.

The Nebraska native would coach at Nebraska from 2018-2022 as the inside linebackers coach.

As we reported earlier in the week, a former Nebraska football player will be playing in the Super Bowl.

As we reported earlier in the week, a former Nebraska football player will be playing in the Super Bowl. Randy Gregory and the San Francisco 49ers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gregory saw limited action in Sunday evening’s NFC Championship game. He recorded two tackles in the Niners 34-31 win against the Detroit Lions. For the 2023-24, he has recorded 20 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

Gregory played for Nebraska for only two seasons. In 24 games during the 2013 and 2014 seasons as a Husker, he recorded 120 total tackles, 29.0 tackles for loss, and 17.5 sacks.

He was a two-time All-Big Ten first-team member and a third-team All-American in 2014. The Jacksonville native would be selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

Two Cornhuskers will participate in a college all-star game later this week.

Two Cornhuskers will participate in a college all-star game later this week. Safety Omar Brown and long snapper Marco Ortiz will represent the Nebraska football program at the 2024 Shrine Bowl.

In 2023, Brown made 51 total tackles, two forced fumbles, and one interception. For his career, he made 75 tackles with nine interceptions.

Brown started his career at Northern Iowa before transferring to Nebraska for the 2022 season. He declared for the NFL draft in early December.

Marco Ortiz spent one year at Nebraska after transferring from Florida. This season, he was named a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award (college football’s best long snapper).

The 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl will occur at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The 12,000-seat indoor stadium is the main practice facility of the Dallas Cowboys.

A former Nebraska Cornhusker scored his first NFL playoff touchdown on Monday night. Wide receiver Trey Palmer scored on a 56-yard touchdown catch in Tampa Bay’s 32-9 Wild Card round victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

For the game, Palmer had only the one 56-yard reception. He had 39 catches for 385 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

Palmer had 71 receptions for a school-record 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns in his one year at Nebraska. The receiver was taken in the sixth round, with the 191st pick overall in the 2023 NFL draft.

Social media is reacting after a former Husker defensive back was left off the Pro Bowl roster.

Social media is reacting after Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt, a former Husker defensive back, was left off the Pro Bowl roster for the AFC squad.

In 11 games this season, Taylor-Britt recorded 48 tackles with one forced fumble and four interceptions. He returned one of those picks for his first career regular-season touchdown.

The Montgomery, Alabama, native played for Nebraska from 2018-21, appearing in 40 games and making 30 starts. He made 140 tackles in his career, 10 for loss and 2.5 sacks. He added five interceptions.

Taylor-Britt was a high school quarterback and had hoped to play college football at Auburn but was never offered a scholarship. He chose Nebraska over Michigan, Mississippi State and Missouri.

The converted defensive back was a two-time second-team All-Big Ten member in 2020 and 2021. He was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

A former Nebraska Cornhusker has officially declared for the 2024 NFL draft.

A former Nebraska Cornhusker declared for the 2024 NFL draft on Monday. Pheldarius Payne is a defensive line/linebacker prospect out of Suffolk, Virginia.

Payne spent his first two seasons at Nebraska before transferring to Virginia Tech for the 2023 campaign. In 14 games as a Cornhusker, he totaled 40 tackles, 4.5 for loss and 3.0 sacks. `

In his only season as a Hokie, he appeared in 13 games, recording 31 tackles, 10 for loss and 4 sacks. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Payne had told the media he had interest from Indiana, Duke and Marshall before deciding to return home to play for Virginia Tech.

A Nebraska wide receiver has entered the NFL draft.

A Nebraska wide receiver entered the NFL draft. Marcus Washington could have filed a waiver for another year of eligibility but instead decided to forgo another season in college and declare for the NFL draft.

Washington missed the season’s final six games after injuring his knee during the Huskers’ 20-7 victory over Illinois. For his career, Washington appeared in 48 games and made 64 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

He made the announcement on social media.

A Nebraska running back declared for the NFL draft. Anthony Grant posted the announcement on social media on Saturday afternoon.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for all that they have done for me. Bringing me as one of their own. Taking the time to help me elevate as a player and also a person. I couldn’t thank you all anymore, from the coaching staff to the academic staff.

I appreciate everyone who’ve invested their time in helping grow as an athlete and as a man throughout my time here. I have built some relationships and bonds that I will never forget and will also have a special place in my heart for all the years to come. I love you all.

I will forever be a Nebraska Cornhusker and with that being said I’m officially declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Grant spent the last two years at Nebraska after starting his career at Florida State. In 23 games as a Husker, he ran for 1,328 yards and nine touchdowns.

His best season came in 2022 when he ran for 915 yards and six touchdowns. Grant had a reduced role in 2023 due to issues with fumbling.
