Nebraska’s roster for the 2024-25 season took a major hit on Monday as Jamarques Lawrence entered the transfer portal.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball program took its biggest blow yet this offseason; on Monday evening, guard Jamarques Lawrence decided to enter the transfer portal, according to reports.
He became the fifth Husker to enter the transfer portal, joining C.J. Wilcher, Blaise Keita, Eli Rice, and Ramel Lloyd Jr.
Lawrence only averaged 6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 34 games this past season but was expected to see a bigger role next season. Lawrence averaged 23.6 minutes per game in his 34 games played this season, which was sixth on the team.
With players such as Brice Williams and Keisei Tominaga both finishing up their careers with the 2023-24 season, Lawrence would’ve likely stepped into a more consistent starting role for the Huskers, though he did start 23 games this season.
For his career, Lawrence played in 62 games, making 35 starts with the program. He averaged 6.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
The shooting guard from Plainfield, New Jersey, originally chose the Huskers as part of the 2022 recruiting cycle over California, Fordham, Hofstra, UMass, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Wichita State, among others.
