Florida football quarterback enters NCAA transfer portal

Gators QB Parker Leise has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Florida football quarterback Parker Leise has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.

Leise, a former three-star recruit by 247Sports, attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he set the school’s single-game passing record with 405 yards. He competed in the All-American Bowl combine, earning Top Performer honors and an All-Combine Team honorable mention.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound pro-style quarterback out of Prairie Village, Kansas, was part of the Gators’ 2023 recruiting class. However, with Florida’s crowded quarterback room featuring DJ Lagway and high-profile recruits, opportunities for Leise to see the field were limited.

For the Gators, Leise’s departure is part of the natural ebb and flow of roster management in the transfer portal era.

With four years of eligibility remaining, Leise will have ample opportunities to develop and grow as a quarterback. Programs in need of a young, dynamic passer will likely express interest in the talented signal-caller.

Iowa Hawkeyes QB to enter NCAA transfer portal

Iowa Hawkeyes QB Marco Lainez to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Another Iowa Hawkeyes quarterback has announced that they will be departing the program and entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Cade McNamara, who left Iowa for the transfer portal last week, is now joined by Marco Lainez, another Iowa QB, who has announced he will enter the transfer portal.

James Resar, who came to Iowa as a quarterback but was transitioned to a wide receiver, also announced he was transferring as well.

The news came directly from Lainez’s X account, where he posted a photo verifying that Iowa had submitted his transfer request.

Lainez, the redshirt freshman, saw limited time at Iowa behind Cade McNamara, Brendan Sullivan, and Jackson Stratton. He was limited during the back half of the 2024 college football season as he was dealing with a broken hand.

His lone action for the Hawkeyes came in the Citrus Bowl against the Tennessee Volunteers last year. He was 2-7 for four yards to go with six carries for 51 yards.

A product of Hun School and Skillman, New Jersey, Lainez was a three-star recruit and the No. 45 overall quarterback coming out of high school, per 247Sports.

Other teams that offered Lainez out of high school include Illinois, Louisville, UMass, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Princeton, and West Virginia.

Marco Lainez’s departure leaves Iowa extremely thin at the quarterback position as they prepare for the bowl game where they will take on the Missouri Tigers in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee.

The depth chart for Iowa consists of Brendan Sullivan and Jackson Stratton, each of who have been thrust into action for the Hawkeyes this season.

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko ‘had an idea’ junior QB Conner Weigman’s departure ‘was coming’

“I had an idea that was coming. I think it’s the right thing for him, his future and career. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.”

After three years in College Station, Texas A&M redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

As was the case for many members of the 12th Man, Aggies football head coach Mike Elko was not surprised by the news of Weigman’s impending departure.

“So much respect for Conner and the way he handled a tremendously challenging situation for him. To lose the job and stay a consummate teammate, a great Aggie, a great teammate,” Elk said Wednesday. “I had an idea that was coming. I think it’s the right thing for him, his future and his career.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.”

Despite the bittersweet nature of Weigman’s announcement, this truly is the best move for all parties involved. Texas A&M‘s offense was stagnant with Weigman under center and has a higher upside with redshirt freshman Marcel Reed as the signal caller.

Weigman‘s career in Aggieland will unfortunately be remembered as what could’ve been, largely due to injuries.

Tennessee quarterback to enter NCAA transfer portal

Tennessee quarterback enters the NCAA transfer portal following the regular-season.

(This story was updated because an earlier version included an inaccuracy.)

Tennessee’s regular season ended on Nov. 30 with a 36-23 win at Vanderbilt. The Vols (10-2, 6-2 SEC) await their College Football Playoff ranking and seeding.

Following the regular season, Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Damron announced he intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

“I will be entering my name into the transfer portal with three years left of eligibility,” Damron announced. “Thank you to the University of Tennessee for allowing me the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dreams!”

Damron appeared in one contest for the Vols during the 2024 regular season. He did not record any statistics against Kent State on Sept. 14 at Neyland Stadium.

The 6-foot, 205-pound quarterback did not appear in any games and earned a redshirt in 2023.

New position of need arises for MSU football in transfer portal

After a couple of roster decisions, a new position of need has arisen for Michigan State

Earlier this week, Spartans Wire identified five positions that Michigan State was going to pursue in the transfer portal. Now, a new position of need has presented itself for the Spartans to pursue.

With Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams running out of eligibility, and Nathan Carter declaring for the NFL draft, the Spartans will now need to identify and land a replacement running back in the transfer portal.

Four scholarships will be used on running backs in 2025, with Makhi Frazier and Brandon Tullis returning while adding Jace Clarizio and Zion Gist in the 2025 recruiting class. This leaves one scholarship for the Spartans to add a starting caliber running back to stabilize the room.

It will be important for the Spartans to get a running back to take the starting role, at least early on, with so little experience in the running back room to stabilize the position heading into 2025.

Michigan State football LS enters transfer portal

Spartans special teamer enters NCAA transfer portal

In the midst of the transfer portal madness happening around college football, the latest Spartan has entered into the portal to find a new home.

Jack Carson Wentz went viral on social media for his name resembling the NFL quarterback, now he will be entering the NCAA transfer portal with three years of eligibility.

Wentz started the year as the back up long snapper behind Kaden Schickel, but after an injury to Schickel, he was thrusted in the starting role. He had one tackle in 2024.

Michigan State recently added Hudsonville long snapper Jack Wills as a PWO and a presumed replacement for Wentz.

Florida TE Arlis Boardingham plans to enter transfer portal

After three years with the program, Florida tight end Arlis Boardingham is entering the transfer portal.

Florida tight end [autotag]Arlis Boardingham[/autotag] will enter the transfer portal, according to Swamp247.

“After careful thought and prayer, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining,” Boardingham wrote in a social media post. “This decision was not easy, but I believe it’s the best path for my personal and athletic growth.”

Boardingham signed with Florida as a member of the recruiting class of 2022. He earned a three-star grade from On3 and Rivals but was a four-star by 247Sports and Rivals’ measure.

As a freshman, Boardingham played just seven snaps in the Las Vegas Bowl and took a redshirt. His workload exploded as a redshirt freshman in 2023, seeing action in all 12 games with two starts. Boardinham led all Florida tight ends that year with 263 snaps played, 26 catches on 37 targets, 289 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus graded him out as the team’s best receiving (65.8) tight end.

Coming into 2024, Boardingham had a chance to be Florida’s unquestioned No. 1 in the tight ends room, but he struggled as a receiver, catching 18 of 26 targets for 128 yards and two scores. He saw Hayden Hansen outperform him on less targets and sophomore Tony Livingston also worked into the rotation. With former four-star recruit Amir Jackson likely to join the mix in 2025, seeking a new home made sense for Boardingham, who finished the year as the worst overall tight end (43.4) on Florida’s roster, per PFF.

Still, there’s plenty of upside for Boardingham as a transfer recruit. He’s a good route runner with good hands and is getting better at blocking. Oregon and Texas recruited him heavily out of high schools.

Boardingham is the 10th Gator to announce an intent to enter the transfer portal. Edge defenders Justus Boone, Bryce Capers (walk-on) and Quincy Ivory (JUCO transfer, 2023), wide receiver Andy Jean, cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson, defensive lineman Kelby Collins, offensive lineman Christian Williams and walk-on Safety Ahman Covington are all leaving the program as well.

Florida’s Options at Tight End in 2025

Boardingham’s departure opens up a significant chunk of snaps in Florida’s offense. As mentioned above, the tight ends room in Gainesville has a decent amount of depth.

Hansen figures to be the position room leader, building off a solid 2024, and Jackson and Livingston will compete for that second spot. Jackson might have the upper hand there as a legitimate pass-catching threat.

There’s also redshirt freshman Gavin Hill to consider, but he has not played a snap in two years with the program. Walk-ons Scott Isacks and Dawson Johnson can return as well.

Keon Zipperer and walk-on Caleb Rillos are both out of eligibility.

Florida signed tight end Micah Jones on Wednesday as a member of the class of 2025. He’s a potential redshirt candidate next year, though.
