Former Rutgers running back withdraws from NFL Draft, enters transfer portal

Kay’Ron Adams, a former Rutgers running back, is in the transfer portal.

On Tuesday, a new name entered the college football transfer portal in former Rutgers football running back Kay’Ron Lynch Adams. The Ohio native spent two seasons as a Scarlet Knight before transferring to UMass Amherst after the 2020 season. Adams had entered the 2024 NFL Draft.

In a post on the social media app X, Adams announced that he was withdrawing his name from the NFL Draft to finish his final year of eligibility. For programs looking to improve their running game, Adams could be an intriguing option.

The talented running back is coming off a career year. During the 2023 campaign, Adams set career highs in rushing yards with 1,157 and touchdowns with 12. He also made an impact in the passing game with 118 receiving yards.

As Adams saw his value rise, he showed he could handle a higher workload. After never recording more than 84 carries during a season in his college career, he added 236 to his resume. The talented running back made the most of his opportunities by averaging a career-high 4.9 yards a carry.

While he will be a hard player to replace, he carved out an unforgettable legacy as a Minuteman. After only recording 320 rushing yards during his time in Piscataway, he was a different player in Amherst.

Although the 2024 season is months away, plenty of programs should be lining up to add Adams to their offense.
