The NCAA committee released the 16 host sites on Sunday night followed by the full official 2022 bracket on Monday afternoon.

Each year the tournament is announced, controversy follows some of the committees’ decision-making. This season features some snubbed teams along with interesting top 16 seedings.

The bracket does set up many can’t miss matchups and storylines including TCU heading to College Station, Ole Miss making the field and Texas State making the trip out west to Standford.

Here are five takeaways from the NCAA Baseball Tournament bracket:

2022 NCAA Baseball Tournament regional sites announced

The Tigers learned whether they would host a regional in Baton Rouge on Sunday night.

LSU entered this week’s SEC Tournament in Hoover squarely in the hunt to host a regional in the NCAA Tournament, which begins this coming weekend. However, after an early exit and 1-2 performance as the No. 4 seed, the Tigers will have to hit the road next week for the regional round.

The tournament selection committee announced the 16 regional host sites on Sunday night, and Baton Rouge was not among them. LSU won’t find out where it will play until the full 64-team bracket is released on Monday at 11 a.m. CT.

Coach Jay Johnson’s team had some ups and downs in Year 1, but it enters the postseason in a good position with a 38-20 (17-13 SEC) record on the year.

In total, four SEC teams were able to earn the right to host a regional: Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M and Tennessee. LSU advanced out of the regional round as an underdog last season, and it will look to do the same this time around.

The Tigers will soon learn where they’re heading and who they could face in the regional field. You can watch the selection show on ESPN2.

New baseball bracketology projects Auburn to host a regional

We could see more baseball at Plainsman Park.

The Auburn Tigers dropped their opening matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats in the SEC Tournament. Despite the loss, it doesn’t seem to damper their hopes of hosting an NCAA Regional at Plainsman Park.

According to D1 Baseball, the Tigers are still in line to be one of the 16 teams to host a four-team regional field in the chase for Omaha.

Their field would consist of Coastal Carolina, Florida State, and College of Charleston. The Tigers would face Charleston in the first game in the No. 1-4 seeded matchup.

Other SEC teams projected to host a regional matchup include the LSU Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Auburn finished the season with a 37-19 overall record and 16-13 conference record. The good news about hosting a regional for Auburn is they won 22 of 31 games played at home this year.

The team’s top batter was Sonny DiChiara, who is batting .379 with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs. He would finish second in doubles with 15 to Kason Howell’s 16 two-baggers.
