NBA Twitter reacts to Jaden Springer, Sixers upsetting Hawks in overtime

NBA Twitter reacts to Jaden Springer and the Philadelphia 76ers knocking off the Atlanta Hawks on the road in overtime.

The Philadelphia 76ers visited State Farm Arena on Friday just looking to play out the string. This was a meaningless game because they are already locked into the No. 3 seed. They sat their top six players, but they weren’t going to just lay down.

Philadelphia prevailed, 136-131, in overtime thanks to a strong effort from their bench unit and young players. Jalen McDaniels had 24 points and 11 rebounds while Georges Niang had 24 points and six rebounds, but second-year guard Jaden Springer stole the show with 19 points and he made clutch plays to force overtime.

He made two game-tying shots and he then played excellent defense on Hawks star Trae Young. Springer, McDaniels, Niang, Danuel House Jr., Montrezl Harrell and others were terrific all night.

NBA Twitter reacts to the Nets’ wire-to-wire win over the Magic

Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to the Nets’ dominating win over the Orlando Magic on Friday.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Orlando Magic at Barclays Center on Friday for the final matchup between the teams and won 101-84. The Brooklyn Nets win the regular-season series 2-1.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 22 points and five rebounds while Cam Johnson had 18 points and four steals. Nic Claxton had 14 points and Seth Curry had 13 points.

For the Magic, Cole Anthony had 14 points and nine rebounds while Goga Bitadze had 12 points and 15 rebounds. Franz Wagner had 12 points and Kevon Harris had 12 points.

In the first half, both teams started off struggling on the offensive end as neither team had much success shooting the three. Orlando was able to get to the rim at will as Brooklyn failed to provide any resistance in the paint. In the second quarter, the Nets were able to pull away thanks to Orlando shooting a frigid 23.8% from the field.

In the second half, things slowed down significantly for both teams as it seemed like both squads were waiting for the game to end. The Magic did play harder than the Nets in the second half as it looked like Brooklyn was going through the motions. In the end, this game was a footnote to the Nets finally clinching the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.

NBA Twitter reacts to Sixers’ listless loss to Heat in home finale

NBA Twitter reacts to the listless loss by the Philadelphia 76ers in a loss to the Miami Heat in the home finale on Thursday.

The Philadelphia 76ers finished the home portion of their schedule on Thursday with a 129-101 loss to the Miami Heat in what can be classified as a listless effort. There was an obvious reason: The Sixers had nothing to play for, but it is still not good enough for a team with title aspirations.

Jimmy Butler had 24 points and six assists and Tyler Herro had 24 points and five assists to lead Miami. The Heat led the Sixers by as many as 33 and they were in a groove almost all night. They shot 55.7% from the floor and 18-for-39 from deep in a win they needed. The Heat can still finish sixth, earn the No. 6 seed and bypass the play-in tournament.

For Philadelphia, Joel Embiid had 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting, James Harden had 14 points, and Tobias Harris had 11 points. Shake Milton added 11 points and 10 assists and Jalen McDaniels had 10 points off the bench.

NBA Twitter reacts to the Nets’ dominant win over the Pistons

Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to the Nets’ win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

The Brooklyn Nets visited Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday to face the Detroit Pistons for the third and final time this season and won 123-108. Brooklyn has won the regular-season series 2-1.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 26 points and six assists while Nic Claxton had 19 points and seven rebounds. Joe Harris had 18 points off the bench and Royce O’Neale had 15 points.

For the Pistons, RJ Hampton had 27 points and and five rebounds while Jaden Ivey had 23 points and 10 assists. Jalen Duren had 18 points and James Wiseman had 16 points.

In the first half, Brooklyn was able to gain some separation from Detroit thanks to Joe Harris’ red-hot three-point shooting. The Nets struggled to stop the Pistons from getting any shot that they wanted and it looked like one of those games that Brooklyn was going to have to win on the offensive end.

In the second half, Detroit made a game of it as RJ Hampton caught fire from three-point land. Once Hampton got going, it opened up the entire offense for the Pistons. Brooklyn played better defense in the fourth quarter as they tightened up their rotations and stopped turning the ball over.

NBA Twitter reacts to Joel Embiid’s masterclass in Sixers’ win over Celtics

NBA Twitter was set ablaze after Joel Embiid dominated to lead the Philadelphia 76ers past the Boston Celtics at home.

The Philadelphia 76ers had nothing going on Tuesday night as a team. As they took on the Boston Celtics at home, they needed somebody to step up and provide something for this group when considering the struggles of the supporting cast.

That somebody was their MVP big man: Joel Embiid. The big fella put on a scintillating performance as he went for 52 points on 20-for-25 shooting and he pulled down 13 rebounds and six assists in a 103-101 win over the Celtics. Philadelphia survived a late collapse as Boston almost stole this one at the buzzer.

The Sixers as a team shot 39-for-78 on the night. Every Sixer not named Embiid shot just 19-for-53 as it was just a struggle for Philadelphia to find rhythm. James Harden had 20 points and 10 assists and PJ Tucker had 11 points with nine coming in the final 2:53 to give Philadelphia the spark they needed.

NBA Twitter reacts to Nets’ disappointing loss to the Timberwolves

Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to the Nets’ disappointing loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves at Barclays Center for the second and final matchup between the two teams this season and lost 107-102. The regular-season series between the two teams is tied 1-1.

For the Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie had 30 points and six rebounds while Mikal Bridges had 24 points and five rebounds. Dorian Finney-Smith and Cam Johnson had 14 points each.

For the Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards had 23 points and five rebounds while Karl-Anthony Towns had 22 points and 14 rebounds. Mike Conley had 18 points and Jaden McDaniels had 15 points.

In the first half, the Nets did not have their best shooting performance from the field overall (41.9%), but they offset that by shooting 50% from three-point land. The Timberwolves owned Brooklyn in the paint early on as they scored 18 of their 31 first-quarter  in the painted area. The Nets was able to get Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert in foul trouble and that allowed Brooklyn to attack the paint and open up their offense.

In the second half, it was more of a nip-and-tuck game as neither team was able to gain much separation from the other. Minnesota started having more success scoring in the paint and that led to the game getting bogged down and taking the legs out of the Nets that were running Minnesota off the floor in the first half. This game came down to the last shot and the Timberwolves got the benefit of that this time around.

NBA Twitter reacts to Sixers falling to Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks

NBA Twitter gave its best reactions to the Philadelphia 76ers falling to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks on the road.

The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to make a statement on Sunday when they visited the Milwaukee Bucks. They had won two of the first three matchups with the Bucks, and they were looking to win the season series, with two wins on the road.

Instead, the Bucks hit the Sixers in the mouth early, and Philadelphia didn’t respond, falling 117-104. Milwaukee shot 69.6% from the floor and 5-for-6 from deep in the first quarter as the Sixers fell behind by 18 in the opening frame.

That’s a tough hole to climb out of. Though they made it an 8-point game, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the rest of the Bucks closed it out. Antetokounmpo had 33 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Brook Lopez added 21 while Khris Middleton had 19 for Milwaukee.

The Sixers were led by Tyrese Maxey who had 29 points while Joel Embiid had 28 points and nine rebounds with five assists. James Harden had 11 and six assists.

NBA Twitter reacts to the Nets’ close win over the Jazz

Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to the Nets’ last-second win over the Utah Jazz on Sunday.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Utah Jazz at Barclays Center on Sunday for the second and final matchup between the teams this season and won 111-110. Brooklyn has swept the regular-season series 2-0.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 30 points and three steals while Spencer Dinwiddie had 17 points and 12 assists. Cam Johnson had 18 points and Nic Claxton had 14 points.

For the Jazz, Talen Horton-Tucker had 32 points and eight assists while Lauri Markkanen had 23 points and nine rebounds. Ochai Agbaji had 19 points and Kris Dunn had 13 points off the bench.

In the first half, Brooklyn had one of the more balanced scoring attacks that they’ve had this season with four players scoring at least eight points, led by Mikal Bridges with 11 points. Transition defense was an issue for the Nets as they allowed the Jazz to score nine points on fastbreaks compared to just one point for Brooklyn. The Nets also had trouble guarding Talen Horton-Tucker as he scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.

In the second half, the Nets started the half the same way that they ended the first half as they continued to do what they had to do to pressure Utah on the perimeter. However, in the fourth quarter, Brooklyn had a collapse of epic proportions as a 23-point lead was whittled down to just a one-point win. Utah made a furious comeback in the end thanks to lack of execution from the Nets and as Spencer Dinwiddie said, Brooklyn got lucky to walk away from this one with a win.

NBA Twitter reacts to Joel Embiid, Sixers holding off Raptors at home

NBA Twitter reacts to Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers holding off the Toronto Raptors at home.

The Philadelphia 76ers played one helluva first half on Friday night as they took on the Toronto Raptors. The Sixers shot a ridiculous 79.6% from the floor as they built a lead as large as 24 and it was a 77-57 lead at the half.

However, the Raptors battled back and they cut the lead to 103-101 with 5:550 left. Philadelphia was sloppy with the basketball and they were not able to take advantage of the same open looks they got in the first half.

Eventually, Joel Embiid and the Sixers did just enough to walk away with a 117-110 win. Their second straight victory after dropping three straight to end their previous road trip.

Embiid had 25 points and 12 rebounds, James Harden fought through his Achilles soreness to put up 23 points and 11 assists, Tyrese Maxey added 13 points and six assists, and De’Anthony Melton had 13. The bench had a big night as Paul Reed had 11 points and six rebounds, Danuel House Jr. had eight, and Jalen McDaniels added seven points.
