LeBron James is a Gryffindor, says one passionate NBA redditor

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is considered a Gryffindor, according to the efforts of one very passionate Harry Potter/NBA fan.

As we enter Week 3 without the National Basketball Association and the absence of real sports becomes more undeniable as we get further and further from the season due to the global pandemic, it’s not exactly a boom time for discussing the NBA or anything currently going on, because nothing is going on. But the internet has proven to be a useful aid during these times and one of those reasons is the connection it provides to all of us. In the case of the NBA, one passionate fan, who also loves Harry Potter, brought us a worthy distraction.

Which Hogwarts houses would NBA players be in? And in the case of this blog, which house would LeBron join? According to Reddit user DonyeWest, James would be a Slytherin, which in this metaphor has been found by Bill Russell. Here is the Starting 5.

House Ghost: Kevin Garnett

PG: Russell Westbrook – Charges in headfirst, previous results be damned. His attitude of “fuck it I’ll do it myself” is emblematic of what people think of Gryffindors.

SG: Damian Lillard – Brave as hell (see: long distance game winners) and a born leader. His extreme loyalty to his franchise and city are among his best traits – he’d rather go down doing what he believes in than jump ship.

SF: Jayson Tatum – Obviously incredibly ballsy and precocious given what he’s accomplished in his first 2.75 seasons, not afraid of big moments. He also seems to have a well of untapped talent that he’s just starting to figure out.

PF: LeBron James – LeBron could fit in any house but Hufflepuff, but he seems like a natural fit here (lion imagery aside). He is supremely talented with a willingness to bend rules to get things done, like Hermione, and he’s clearly loyal and a born leader.

C: Bam Adebayo – He’s one of the most tenacious players in the NBA and seems to take every challenge extremely personally. It feels like Adebayo is going to be a leader in the NBA for a long time as the next Heat legend.

While I don’t know if LeBron himself is much of a Harry Potter fan, maybe his kids can tell him why it’s cool that he is a Gryffindor. But it’s not exactly surprising it went this way. He did tattoo “The Chosen One” on himself after all.

NBA Reddit: The funniest threads in a world without basketball

Look, fam. We all miss sports. The world is pretty boring right now without them.

We understand that they’re gone for now for good reason — we have to social distance to do our part in getting coronavirus out of here. But, man, do we miss our sports.

You know who misses sports the most? NBA Reddit. They are literally losing their minds right now without basketball to watch.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. Reddit has always been the kookiest place on the internet. If you’re looking for good conspiracy content and deep dives on the most irrelevant details on the strangest things, you go to reddit. So it’s only natural that NBA Reddit would be weird — even with basketball.

But without it? People are LOSING IT. And it’s getting worse by the day.

Y’all. Somebody asked if an owner could *theoretically* circumvent the salary cap by MARRYING a player.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Someone asked if Zion Williamson would be as hyped if he had the name HERBERT BARTHOLOMEW. What?

It’s all just unraveling quickly. So quickly.

 

To be fair, it hasn’t been all, uh, super crazy. Some of it has been just mildly crazy. Someone said that Zion Williamson looks like Toothless the dragon from the Disney movie How to train a Dragon and, uh, maybe?

Someone also gave some pretty good social distancing tips by using NBA defense against Ben Simmons as an example.

These are tough times for all of us, but none of us are going through it like NBA Reddit is. Their minds are churning at 3,000 miles a minute and they aren’t stopping anytime soon.

Please, Basketball Gods. If there’s ANYTHING you can do to stop this madness, do it. If not for all of us, then just for the sanity of NBA Reddit.

One of the biggest moves of the summer in the NBA was the decision by the Rockets to trade point guard Chris Paul to the Oklahoma City Thunder and to bring in Westbrook. The move reunited Harden and Westbrook, who helped bring the Thunder to the NBA Finals in 2012. That was before either player had reached his current status and become a league MVP. The question now is whether or not the two stars can coexist well enough to bring Houston a championship.

Outside of Harden and Westbrook, the rest of the Rockets roster will need to play at a high level on both sides of the court. Shooters like Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson knocking down shots will force defenses not to put too much of their attention on Harden and Westbrook, both of whom are at their best when they have room to operate and get to the basket against overmatched defenders. With offensive expert Mike D’Antoni at the helm, expect the team to find ways to space the floor and get open shots for the supporting cast.
