Draft prospect Killian Hayes says playing with the Warriors ‘would be real fun’

At the NBA Draft scouting combine, French prospect Killian Hayes said playing with the Golden State Warriors “would be real fun.”

Although the NBA is waiting to crown a champion between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat, the Golden State Warriors have shifted gears into draft mode.

In November, the Golden State Warriors will be on the clock with the No. 2 overall selection in the 2020 edition of the NBA Draft. Leading up to draft night, the Warriors will be interviewing members of the 2020 prospect pool as Bob Myers and Steve Kerr do their pre-draft homework.

During the NBA Draft Combine, the Warriors will have another opportunity to speak with draft prospects virtually. At the combine, French prospect Killian Hayes confirmed he’s spoken to the Warriors. In an interview with members of the media at the combine, Hayes said it would be “real fun” to play alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Via LetsGoWarriors on YouTube:

When I had an interview, I thought a lot about playing with these guys. With guys like Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and [Steph] Curry — they’re all really great shooters. So I feel like playing with them would be real fun. You can see when they play the game; they always have fun on the court.

In 10 games for ratiopharm Ulm in Germany, the 19-year-old wing averaged 12.8 points, 6.2 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest. Hayes shot 39% from deep on 4.1 attempts from beyond the arc in the EuroCup.

Hayes ranks as the No. 5 prospect on the Warriors Wire NBA Draft Big Board.

The addition of Hayes would add a new level of energy to Golden State’s backcourt. The at 6-foot-5 guard is known for his pace and ability to sling the ball up and down the court with creativity. Hayes would immediately compete with Jordan Poole, Ky Bowman and Damion Lee for a role in Kerr’s second unit. If Hayes lands in the Bay Area, he could provide Kerr with another playmaking choice off the bench with Eric Paschall

After Curry missed 55 games in 2019-20 due to a significant hand injury, the Warriors will need a reliable option behind the two-time Most Valuable Player next season.

NBA Draft: Will Georgia’s Anthony Edwards go No. 1 to the Timberwolves?

Last night the Minnesota Timeberwolves received the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Will they take Anthony Edwards?

Thursday night the Minnesota Timberwolves were given the No. 1 pick of the 2020 NBA Draft during the annual NBA Draft Lottery, which is a random drawing of the top draft spots for the league’s upcoming draft.

The draft order is especially important to guys like Georgia basketball’s Anthony Edwards, a potential No. 1 pick.

DawgNation may have wanted to see the Atlanta Hawks in the No. 1 spot, but with Atlanta receiving the No. 6 pick – Edwards will most likely be off the board by the time the Hawks pick, barring a sizable trade.

Many mock drafts have Edwards and LaMelo Ball currently a top their big boards.

Melo took a more untraditional route to the draft than Edwards, electing to play in the AAU circuit in the States before going overseas for the past year to meet the NBA’s one-year out of high school draft requirement.

While Ball played well overseas, Edwards dominated the SEC as a freshman in 2019.

Edwards finished 2019 with 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game and was named the 2019 SEC Freshman of the Year – the first Bulldog to win the award.

We will have to wait until the October NBA Draft to see what the Timberwolves do with the No. 1 pick, but it may come down to who Minnesota thinks will be the best fit for their team in the long run.

Ball is a skilled point guard for sure, but with the Timberwolves adding star point guard D’Angelo Russel last season, they may elect to take Edwards at shooting guard, who is a more plug and play prospect with his explosiveness on both ends of the floor.

Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards joins Lebron James, signs with Klutch Sports Group

Per Klutch Sports Group’s Twitter account, Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards has signed with the agency who also represents Lebron.

Former Georgia basketball star, 2019-20 SEC Freshman of the Year Anthony Edwards, has signed with Klutch Sports Group, according to their Twitter.

Klutch Sports Group is a sports agency founded by Rich Paul – known most famously as agent to NBA superstar Lebron James – and has been in the news most recently for the signing of Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young and now Edwards, the potential No. 1 pick of this year’s NBA Draft.

Rich Paul and Klutch Sports Group also represents NBA players like Anthony Davis, John Wall, Ben Simmons and Draymond Green with Edwards now being the youngest athlete signed.

Edwards was a one-and-done at Georgia. In 2019, he was the nation’s leading freshman scorer at 19.1 ppg and was named second-team All-SEC by both the coaches and the AP.

DawgNation, mark your calendars for October 16, as Edwards looks to become the first Bulldog drafted No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft.

Warriors land Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton in latest Bleacher Report mock draft

In Jonathan Wasserman’s latest Bleacher Report mock draft, the Golden State Warriors select Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton.

With the NBA setting their 22-team return into motion, new dates have been released regarding the draft. The NBA lottery is slated to take place on Aug. 25 with draft day set to follow on Oct. 15.

As there’s more clarity on when the Warriors will make their selection, mock drafts are pouring in with predictions of whom Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will pick in the top five.

While many forecasts have the Warriors picking James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards or Obi Toppin, in Jonathan Wasserman’s latest Bleacher Report mock draft, Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton lands in the Bay Area with the fifth overall pick.

In his Sophomore season with the Cyclones, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 15.2 points on 50.4% shooting from the field with 6.5 assists and 5.9 rebounds, earning a Second-Team All-Big 12 nod.

According to Wasserman, Haliburton has the ability to play off of both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in Golden State’s backcourt.

Via Bleacher Report:

An elite passer who also ranked in the 99th percentile out of spot-up situations, Haliburton could run the point or play off Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. He should be able to add value to both the starting lineup and second unit.

In Wasserman’s mock, Haliburton went off the board at five, but regardless of when they’re on the clock, Golden State may have an eye on the Iowa State guard. According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors have Haliburton as the top point guard on their board.

While LaMelo Ball, Edwards and Wiseman are headlining many mock drafts, Haliburton is a name to watch as draft season continues.

Report: Warriors have met with two top draft prospects on Zoom

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Golden State Warriors have met with James Wiseman and LaMelo Ball for Zoom interviews.

With the Golden State Warriors not apart of the NBA’s 22-team return plan, their season is officially over. With the offseason underway, the Warriors can turn their attention to the NBA Draft.

As the NBA rolled out their plans to resume the season, new dates for the lottery and NBA draft have been released. The NBA lottery combine is scheduled to take place on Aug. 25 with draft day set to follow on Oct. 15.

For the first time during their stint with Golden State, Steve Kerr and Bob Myers will make a selection early in the NBA Draft. As draft season kicks off, the Golden State Warriors have already spoken to a pair of top prospects.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Warriors have met with James Wiseman and LaMelo Ball for Zoom interviews.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle previously reported the Warriors “aren’t believed to be high” on Ball and Wiseman. Regardless of how they may feel on either player, it’s essential for the Warriors to exercise due diligence with the 2020 prospect pool.

With the Warriors slated to pick in the top-five — potentially first overall, Myers and Kerr have plenty of homework to do as the predraft process continues to roll on.
