Damian Lillard hit TWO half-court 3-pointers before winning MVP of the All-Star Game

Dame is absolutely limitless.

After winning the 2024 NBA 3-point contest, Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard had the highlight of the night in the All-Star Game.

The eight-time All-Star, who was named to the All-Star starting lineup during his first season playing in the Eastern Conference, was outstanding during his time in Indiana.

Lillard, who is known for his limitless range as a 3-point shooter, proved it once again during the All-Star Game by casually pulling up for a shot from halfcourt. He made it look too easy.

UPDATE: Later during the second half, Lillard (who was named MVP of the 2024 All-Star Game) hit another half-court shot.

This was the second:

Fans criticized refs for allowing 3-point contest participants to shoot with their feet on the line

If fans are betting on who wins, these rules need to get enforced.

For the second year in a row, Damian Lillard won the NBA’s 3-point contest. But it didn’t come without its moments of controversy.

Even after the competition was over and Lillard was crowned champion, the Bucks star point guard acknowledged that the refs were not exactly showing a lot of due diligence during the competition.

He said that while he saw referees on the court, he noticed that they weren’t enforcing the rules of the contest.

While the participants may have found themselves a bit distracted by the fancy LED court at Lucas Oil Stadium, the refs had more responsibility to not count the shots that were taken while players had their feet on the line.

Especially if fans are betting on who wins this competition, long 2-pointers shouldn’t count and these rules need to be enforced.

NBA 3-Point Contest 2024 lineup: Players, format, rules and tiebreakers

The eight players who will vie for the 3-Point Contest crown on Saturday night, plus the rules and format.

NBA All-Star Weekend is coming up in Indianapolis, and that means the return of one of everyone’s favorite festivities: the annual 3-Point Contest.

The 2024 edition is set for Saturday night with the broadcast beginning at 8 p.m. The 3-Point Contest will be the second event of the night following the Skills Challenge. As with all the events, it will be held inside Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.

A total of eight NBA players have been selected to participate in this year’s 3-Point Challenge, and the field includes the defending champion, Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard.

Here’s the full field of competitors that will challenge Lillard for the three-point crown on Saturday night, plus the rules and format:

The NBA unveiled a jaw-dropping LED court for All-Star Weekend and the future is here

This is a VERY cool court.

The NBA has unveiled an LED court that they will use during All-Star Weekend at events hosted by Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Although the NBA All-Star Game will be held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (the home of the Pacers and the Fever) and will not feature the LED court, the rest of the weekend festivities will be at the NFL stadium where the Colts play.

That means the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, the Skills Challenge, the 3-Point Contest, and the Slam Dunk Contest will all take place on an amazing LED court. (The one-on-one shooting contest, Stephen vs. Sabrina, will also happen on the special court.)

We saw FIBA install similar glass courts during the U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup last year and it was an exciting glimpse into the future.

The court that the NBA will use, which was developed by the German company ASB GlassFloor, will add an enhanced experience for fans in-arena and those watching the TNT broadcast.

It will allow for design and color changes, live replays, game stats, location-based player tracking animations, and other animations.

Dwight Howard did the Taiwan league 3-point contest and was … not that bad?

We saw worse in the NBA 3-point contest.

If you’ve been wondering what Dwight Howard is up to lately, the eight-time NBA All-Star is still hooping, playing basketball in Taiwan’s T1 League. And he’s been looking like his old dominant self over there.

Playing for the Taoyuan Leopards, Howard is averaging 25.6 points, according to asia-basket.com, and he was named the T1’s inaugural All-Star Game MVP after posting 37 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in Tuesday’s game.

But the real buzz around Howard right now is from his participation in the T1 3-point contest. Because, ya know, it’s Dwight Howard. He only made 22 threes on 22% shooting during his entire 18-year NBA career.

But he wasn’t as bad as you might expect…

Alright, so no, he didn’t do great either. Howard was so slow, and some of his misses were real clankers. But he still finished with 15 points, a respectable number that might’ve been higher if he moved a little faster. It also would’ve been better than two NBA players in their contest a couple weeks ago — Julius Randle (13) and Kevin Huerter (8).

Howard’s showing was actually a continuation of how his NBA career evolved before his final season in 2022. He made 37% of his threes (13-of-35) over his final two seasons with the Sixers and Lakers.

So shoutout to him for not being afraid to put that new shooting stroke on display and give those fans a show.

Q&A: Julius Randle on the 3-point contest, his son’s viral reaction and a bounceback all-star season

“He might be more competitive than me.”

When Julius Randle was named an all-star in 2021, he was just a 26-year-old in the middle of a breakout season with little outside expectations for how far his team could go.

In 2023, he’s a two-time all-star with an entire city on his back.

It’s been clear in a resurgent season for Randle that the New York Knicks go as he goes. After missing the playoffs last year in what Randle agreed to be a down season for himself, the Knicks are rolling again and their leader is “a lot better” for the experience.

Randle’s bounceback even earned him a surprise invite to Saturday’s 3-point contest as an injury replacement. And while his 13 points weren’t the worst showing of the participants, they were just bad enough to turn his adorable son Kyden into a meme for the night.

Randle discussed that funny moment, his all-star experience and more with FTW in a conversation about his partnership with Starry, the NBA’s newest official soft drink.

This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.

Buddy Hield catches fire late to win the 3-point contest

Buddy Hield came through CLUTCH.

Man oh man, what a finish. We don’t normally look at the 3-point contest as the most exciting event during All-Star weekend’s Saturday night, but maybe we should after today.

After we got Davis Bertans out of the way, Buddy Hield and Devin Booker went head to head in the final round of the contest and, fam, let me tell you, they did not disappoint.

Buddy Hield ended up snatching the W right out of Book’s hands. Booker got to 26 points after hitting three money balls on his final rack. Normally, that feels like enough. Tonight? It just barely wasn’t.

Hield got to 27 points on the very. Last. Rack.

That finish was sooooo good. Buddy Buckets had the arena going nuts, including everybody on the bench. AND the announcers.

Shoutout to Hield, man. Maybe he is the next Steph Curry? Nah, too far, probably.

Buddy Hield wins NBA 3-Point Contest on NBA All-Star Saturday night

Buddy Buckets back at it again. Former Oklahoma star Buddy Hield just won the NBA 3-Point Contest on NBA All-Star Saturday night.

Buddy Buckets back at it again.

The former Sooners star and current Sacramento Kings guard lit up NBA All-Star Saturday night on his way to winning the NBA 3-Point Contest.

Buddy Hield got off to a slow start in round one before nailing his final six shots to advance to the final round with a score of 27 points. Up against Davis Bertans and Devin Booker in the final round, Hield needed to score 27 again to win the competition.

Heading into the final rack of the final round, the former Oklahoma star needed eight points to defeat Booker. Hield hit his first three, missed his fourth, then swished his fifth to win the NBA 3-Point Contest.

Oklahoma counterpart Trae Young was also a participant, but failed to make it out of the first round.

The Bahamas native becomes the first Oklahoma alumni to win the NBA 3-Point Contest. Hield has made the third-most 3-pointers in the NBA this season and is shooting 38.5 percent from three. He led the Sooners to the Final Four during the 2016 NCAA Tournament while taking home the Naismith Trophy presented to the men’s college basketball player who achieves great success on the court.

Hield will not be competing in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night.
