This late in his career, LeBron James is still a 96.
NBA 2K23 officially releases on September 9. But to promote the game, they are revealing some of the player rankings on Twitter.
Player rankings are one of the most intriguing aspects of the NBA 2K video game series. I’ve always been fascinated by the process and have spoken to the developers about the formula they use. As such, I’ve paid close attention to what players are ranked for next season.
So far, we have learned about several players, including Devin Booker (who appears on the cover of the game) and LeBron James. There is no official word yet on whether or not musician J. Cole, who is on the cover of the Dreamer Edition, was given a rating for NBA 2K23.
Otherwise, however, below are the ratings that we do know thus far. We will continue to update this post as we learn more!
The team’s best player is, unsurprisingly, star forward Jayson Tatum.
The folks over at NBA 2K23 just released updated full team ratings, and the Boston Celtics were unsurprisingly designated as one of the league’s Tier 1 teams as a likely contender heading into the looming 2022-23 NBA season. In terms of overall ranking, the Celtics garnered an 82, just below the Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns and Philadelphia 76ers, and tied with the Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, and Chicago Bulls.
Boston was rated just 74 on inside scoring, a total of 83 in outside scoring, an 82 on the club’s athleticism, a 78 for playmaking (fourth best overall in the NBA), a 70 in defense (league-best), a lowly 56 in rebounding, 77 for intangibles and an 84 in potential.
The team’s best player is, unsurprisingly, star forward Jayson Tatum with a 90 overall rating attached to his player profile.
Where does this leave the Celtics? What options do they have regarding making up for his loss? https://t.co/sQ9IclgqMW
NBA 2K23 is scheduled to be released on Friday, Sept. 9. With the release of the annual game comes the announcement of team and player ratings.
For the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team is graded out as a 79 rating, which is tied for the bottom seven in the league.
Below are the ratings for the veterans on the roster, so Chet Holmgren, Ousmane Dieng, Jalen Williams and Jaylin Williams will have to wait a bit longer before their rating is revealed.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 88 rating
Josh Giddey: 81 rating
Lu Dort: 79 rating
Tre Mann: 77 rating
Darius Bazley: 77 rating
Aleksej Pokusevski: 76 rating
Derrick Favors: 76 rating
Kenrich Williams: 76 rating
Mike Muscala: 76 rating
Theo Maledon: 74 rating
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl: 74 rating
Aaron Wiggins: 74 rating
Ty Jerome: 73 rating
Lindy Waters III: 71 rating
Vit Krejci: 70 rating
Usually with player ratings comes controversy, but this seems about right for the most part for the Thunder roster. It’ll be interesting to see what the rookies are rated as when that is revealed.
Was the TJ Warren signing an offseason win for the Brooklyn Nets?
While the Brooklyn Nets are hoping free agent TJ Warren will be able to rediscover his Orlando bubble form, recently a writer predicted that Warren’s NBA 2K23 rating will take a deep dive from years past.
NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report writes that his ratings dive is caused by only appearing in four games all last season.
“That he maintained a rating in the 80s is either an indictment on the developers or an awful lot of faith in his bubble run and nearly two-year-long injury recovery. In six bubble games prior to the 2020 playoffs, Warren averaged 31.0 points and 3.7 threes while shooting 57.8 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from three. It was a heck of a run, but it probably doesn’t warrant his staying power at 82,” wrote Bailey. “At this point, there’s really no way to know what kind of player Warren is. And it’s fair to wonder if the kind of foot injuries that could cause him to miss this much time could have a long-term effect on him. With an offseason to dive into all the ratings, the developers will surely catch this one and slide him down to the 70s.”
But they’ve never had a non-athlete on the cover — at least, not until now.
J Cole is the latest cover star for NBA 2k23 coming in with his own “Dreamer Edition.” NBA 2k announced the cover on Thursday with a look at it featuring J Cole chilling on a court up in the clouds somewhere.
Introducing @JColeNC as our #NBA2K23 DREAMER Edition Cover Athlete ☁️
That’s pretty sick, man. This looks great. If my PS5 wasn’t the digital edition, I’d probably get this.
I guess Cole technically is an athlete — he did play professionally in a Canadian league this year. But, come on. He’s a rapper, y’all. And it’s just really cool seeing a rapper on the cover of a basketball game.
Grammy Award winning artist J. Cole will grace the cover of a special edition of NBA 2K23.
With NBA 2K23 set to drop in early September, the makers of the game have announced another special edition of the game. Grammy Award winning artist J. Cole will grace the cover of NBA 2K23 DREAMER Edition. Cole is an accomplished musician as well as an avid basketball player — he’s suited up professionally in both Rwanda and Canada.
The news of this new iteration of the game comes alongside the unveiling of an expanded MyCAREER mode that will allow players to add music, fashion, and business to their off-court career journeys. This continues efforts from the makers of the game to underscore the connections basketball has with broader culture.
The Jordan Challenge is back in NBA 2K23, with five more of number 23’s career-defining moments.
There’s not even a month left until NBA 2K23 is out. As such, the hype train is moving at full speed — especially as we learn more about how it’ll honor Michael Jordan’s legacy.
On Thursday, 2K Sports announced that NBA 2K23 will let fans recreate 15 iconic moments from Jordan’s career. The Jordan Challenge mode, introduced in NBA 2K11, returns at long last. In addition to the original 10 challenges from that title, five all-new scenarios are coming.
Some of these moments include Jordan’s career-defining performance at the 1982 NCAA National Championship, along with the 1998 NBA Finals, where he secured a sixth NBA championship. Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect is that everything will be period-specific. So all athletes, announcers, and courts will appear as they did back then – complete with CRT TV scanlines! For example, the legendary 1990 Chicago Bulls at Cleveland Cavaliers game looks as if it was ripped straight out of that era. There’s quite a commitment to authenticity.
A fresh trailer for NBA 2K23 also came out, with interviews from experts who witnessed Jordan’s rise firsthand. So do check it out!
“The Jordan Challenge is an immersive experience unlike anything NBA 2K fans have seen, completely rebuilding the challenges from [NBA2K11] and adding five new moments,” Erick Boenisch, vice president of NBA development at Visual Concepts, said in a press release. “Our team took everything into consideration when constructing this game mode; the arenas, the players, the uniforms, the broadcast, and the play style of the era have been accounted for in an effort to give fans a truly authentic and unique playable Jordan experience.”
Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any mention of that time when Jordan and Bugs Bunny defeated aliens on the court. A crying shame, really — you’ll have to play MultiVersus for that.
NBA 2K23 will release on Sept. 9, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Here’s how NBA 2K23 is tweaking the gameplay formula.
The makers of the popular video game NBA 2K announced a bevy of new features and upgrades to the highly-anticipated NBA 2K23, set to launch in September. Fans will be treated to new, more in-depth ways to customize their avatars, as well as a revamped system for dunking and handling the ball.
Gameplay Director at Visual Concepts Mike Wang explained some of these features in a press release today, stating, “From focusing on how players can attack the basket, to more realistic on-ball defense and a new tiered badge system, all the features we’ve brought to life in the game this year will create a more authentic gameplay experience that is enjoyable for everyone.”
This new list of gameplay options expands on some of the nuggets we learned last month at the official launch of NBA 2K23. Let’s explore some of these features a little further.
In the latest NBA 2K23 trailer, Steph Curry’s night night celebration was on display.
With the release of NBA 2K23 looming, the widely popular basketball video game dropped a new trailer on Friday.
The first look 2K23 trailer featured several NBA and WNBA stars, including multiple members of the Golden State Warriors: Jordan Poole, Draymond Green and Steph Curry.
2K Sports released a “First Look” trailer for its upcoming NBA 2K23 video game, which will release on September 9.
While the footage typically showcases what’s new in the game, there’s no coincidence that the clips chosen are usually ones that have some meaning behind them. And if you pay close enough attention, you’ll realize the many petty things that 2K is doing.
I made sure to pay attention to specific player celebrations and emotions, and also to which team or individual player matchups are being highlighted. Or, in certain cases, which are not.
Here are five things I found in today’s NBA 2K23 trailer.
