Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Robert Williams III ranked just 5th-best ‘Big 3’ in NBA 2K update

There are four higher-rated combinations of top-three players per team in the league according to the latest NBA 2K update.

Just because the Boston Celtics happen to be the betting favorites to win the 2023 NBA Playoffs a season after coming within two wins of doing so in 2022 doesn’t mean that the Celtics are also seen as having the top-rated trio of stars in the latest ratings update of NBA 2K according to a new assessment by HoopsHype.

In fact, the Celtics check in at just fifth in the league in terms of the combined overall ratings of their three best players, in this case, Robert Williams III (85),  Jaylen Brown (87), and Jayson Tatum (90). Ahead of them are Devin Booker (91), Chris Paul (90), and Deandre Ayton (85) of the Phoenix Suns, the Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant (96), Kyrie Irving (89), and Ben Simmons (83), Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo (97), Khris Middleton (86), and Jrue Holiday (86), and Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid (96), James Harden (89), and Tyrese Maxey (85) in reverse order.

The trio of Celtics was rated just above the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James (96), Anthony Davis (90), and Russell Westbrook (78).

Reserve Celtics guard Derrick White fastest-rated Boston player, 7th-fastest in NBA in new NBA 2k ratings

One of the newest additions to the team is also its fastest in the popular NBA simulation game.

While he might not have been the flashiest player on the Boston Celtics roster in his short time playing for the team last season after being dealt to the Celtics at the 2022 NBA trade deadline, veteran guard Derrick White is proving to be the fastest player on the team in terms of NBA 2K rating for the coming 2022-23 season.

Or at least he was according to the latest round of updates to the popular basketball simulation game chronicled in a recent assessment by HoopsHype. White is also tied for having the seventh-fastest speed rating in NBA 2K23, sharing a 90 speed rating with Orlando Magic wing RJ Hampton, with the pair each having an 88 speed rating with the ball for good measure.

White and Hampton find themselves rated just behind new Cleveland Cavalier wing Donovan Mitchell’s 96 speed rating (rated 83 with the ball), and just ahead of Houston Rockets shooting guard Daishen Nix’s 90 speed rating (87 with the ball).

Golden State Warriors player ratings: NBA 2K23 ratings for the entire roster

See how the Golden State Warriors’ roster was rated in NBA 2K23.

With a new NBA season approaching, the latest edition of the NBA 2K series was just released.

Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is once again one of the top-rated players in the game with an overall rating of 96. That rating trails Giannis Antetokounmpo by one point and puts Curry in a five-way tie with LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic.

Curry was also a 96 overall at the launch of 2K22, which was a downgrade from the year prior, when he was a 97 overall in 2K21.

Here are the official NBA 2K23 ratings for every player on the Warriors’ roster, starting with the lowest overall.

NBA 2K23 review: A shuffle in the right direction

NBA 2K23 has the potential to be an excellent basketball game, but this isn’t quite a slam dunk.

2K has long been the premier basketball title for fans worldwide, and while the series was highly praised in the 2010s, the franchise took a step back in recent years.

Questionable changes to fundamental modes such as MyCareer and The Park hindered the game’s growth, and reluctance to add improvements to fan favorites like MyTeam and Franchise left fans sitting on the bench.

Now, NBA 2K23 has arrived, and 2K Games appears to be making strides to listen to its community and relay these concerns into the new title. While 2K23 isn’t perfect, there’s been some prominent changes that have elevated the series once again.

Complete Houston Rockets ratings list for NBA 2K23 video game

Jalen Green and rookie Jabari Smith Jr. are Houston’s highest-rated players in the NBA 2K23 video game. Here’s a look at the full list, including where each player stands relative to his peers.

Friday’s release of the NBA 2K23 video game also involved the annual release of NBA 2K’s ratings for all players across the league. To determine virtual skills, players are rated on a 1-to-100 scale in numerous categories, including a frequently disputed overall rating.

Courtesy of HoopsHype, we also know how each player stacks up compared to 500 of his NBA peers. For example, the highest-rated player on the 2022-23 Rockets roster — second-year guard Jalen Green — has an overall rating of 82. That’s tied for 68th overall and matches the likes of Myles Turner, Julius Randle, Lonzo Ball, Malcolm Brogdon, Al Horford, Tobias Harris, Kyle Lowry, and Jerami Grant.

Houston’s second-highest-rated player is rookie forward Jabari Smith Jr., who has a 78 rating. That’s tied for No. 112 overall alongside players such as Buddy Hield, Seth Curry, Herb Jones, Caris LeVert, John Wall, Collin Sexton, Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverley, Victor Oladipo, Cole Anthony, and fellow top rookie Paolo Banchero.

From best to worst, scroll on for the initial “overall rating” list involving all current members of the 2022-23 Rockets. Additional ratings in other categories, such as 3-point shooting, are available at 2Kratings.com. Depending on results in the upcoming season, these roster ratings could be adjusted in future NBA 2K digital updates.

Is Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum one of the more egregious NBA 2k ratings adjustment snubs?

One NBA analyst counts him among them.

With the arrival of Salty September, when NBA stars get on social media to gripe about their new NBA 2K ratings, there are always several cases to be made for where the folks behind the popular NBA simulation game could have done a better job rating particular players.

And every once in a while, they make a somewhat egregious mistake that gets the league’s media sphere aflutter with criticism, such as this season’s decision to rank Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry a 99 for his 3-pointer. But this September, Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey also has a Boston Celtics-specific gripe:

Star forward Jayson Tatum not being included among the game’s elite wings.

NBA 2K23: Complete overall ratings for each OKC Thunder player

Here are the overall ratings for all 20 players on the current Thunder roster.

NBA 2K23 was officially released on Friday, which means the full player ratings were also made available.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are categorized as a Tier 3 team, which essentially means they’re projected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season. That is a fair assumption to make considering how young the roster is.

In total, there are eight Tier 3 teams: the Thunder, Orlando Magic, Charlotte Hornets, Utah Jazz, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs.

Only the Rockets and Spurs have a worse overall rating than the Thunder’s 78 rating.

With that aside, let’s take a look at the entire Thunder roster and what each individual player is rated as currently — these ratings are obviously subject to change throughout the entire season as 2K regularly updates them.

(Editor’s Note: An article on the overall ratings for the Thunder roster was previously published earlier this week. That is my mistake. Those ratings were outdated and from the last round of updates from NBA 2K22.)
