Oats tells reporters that he chooses to wear a mask to set an example to those around him.

“Luckily for me, I got COVID back in July, so I don’t have to worry about it really, too much, anymore,” Oats says. “Technically, I don’t have to wear a mask, but I try to wear a mask whenever I’m around people just to set the standard that that’s what we’re going to do to try to abide by everything.”

According to Myron Medcalf of ESPN, Oats also said members of his team needed to quarantine within the last month.

He concluded with his thoughts on Saban’s positive test and what it means for Alabama’s game this Saturday against Georgia.

Alabama basketball lands four-star small forward Jusaun Holt

The Crimson Tide landed four star small forward Jusaun Holt from Roswell, Georgia on Sunday.

Nate Oats has done it again.

This time, it’s the class of 2021.

Alabama basketball has landed its first recruit for the 2021 class, and it’s a big deal!

The Crimson Tide landed four star small forward Jusaun Holt from Roswell, Georgia on Sunday.

Holt, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound wing, is ranked as the eighth-best player in Georgia and 123rd-best player nationally within the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Here’s what Holt told 247Sports about why he chose Alabama,

“I can see myself at Bama because of the play style and the way it would excel my game to a different level. I really like coach Pettway. He is the best recruiting coach I’ve had. My relationship is great with coach Oats, and he reminds me of my high school coach I have now. Really just an all-around fit. Play style, coaching staff, am I gonna play freshman year, all of that.”

He chose the Crimson Tide over Xavier, Georgia, Wake Forest, Miami, and Washington, all which were his final six schools.

247Sports’ Brian Snow recently wrote some evaluation notes on Holt:

“At around 6-foot-6, Holt looks more comfortable as a true wing this year, his shot has improved, and he still has an impressive ability to rebound the ball while being a versatile defender as well.”“One of the better available wings hailing from the South is Jusaun Holt. The native of suburban Atlanta has been a major winner at the high school level, and has had a good spring and summer with Team Dickerson on the travel basketball circuit, which in the state of Georgia has been best against best for the past couple of months.”

2022 Alabama target PG names Crimson Tide as recruitment finalist

Alabama basketball and Nate Oats targets 2022 3 star point guard from Virginia and is listed in his final three programs.

Nate Oats completely reinvigorated Alabama men’s basketball. In his debut season as the Crimson Tide’s head coach, the team finished the season with a 16-15 record. Though, the season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, so his postseason record with the SEC program remains unknown.

One factor that sets Oats apart from previous Alabama coaches is his ability to sell players on the program’s culture, and recruit across the country.

The Crimson Tide finished the 2020 recruiting cycle ranked No. 12 in the nation and No. 6 in the SEC. There’s plenty of excitement surrounding this new-look team in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Alabama will enter the 2020-2021 college basketball season missing a few players. Guard Kira Lewis will take his talents to the NBA and is expected to be a mid-first round draftee. Oats also lost guard Jaylen Forbes, center Raymond Hawkins and center Galin Smith to the NCAA transfer portal.

Despite not having any commits for the 2021 class, Alabama is already starting to gauge interest.

The 247Sport’s No. 36 point guard in the 2021 class, Darius Johnson, announced via Twitter that Alabama is in his final three schools.

The three-star recruit is native to Virginia and included Providence and UCF in his short list of programs.

Alabama MBB F Javian Davis enters NCAA transfer portal

Alabama redshirt sophomore forward Javian Davis enters the NCAA transfer portal, potentially opening up two additional scholarship spots.

Alabama men’s basketball’s redshirt sophomore forward, Javian Davis, has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz.

Davis appeared in 31 games in the 2019-2020 college basketball season, where he averaged six points per game, a field goal percentage of 59.4% and averaged almost four rebounds per game.

With the addition of recent top commit Alex Tchikou, Nate Oats doesn’t have any available scholarships to give out. However, if Davis does decide to transfer, and John Petty stays in the NBA Draft, there would be two potential scholarships to offer.

Davis is not the first player from the 2019 team to transfer before the start of the 2020 season. Former Alabama forward Galin Smith announce he will be transferring to Maryland to continue his basketball career, guard Jaylen Forbes transferred to Tulane, while center Raymond Hawkins will be playing at Long Beach State.

While it is sad to see players leave the Crimson Tide, it’s an amazing sight to see Nate Oats recruit elite talent to Tuscaloosa. Rivals.com has the 2020 Alabama basketball recruiting class listed as No. 9 in the nation.

Alabama basketball lands four-star forward Alex Tchikou

On Sunday, the Alabama men’s basketball team added a 5th recruit as four-star forward Alex Tchikou committed to the Crimson Tide.

On Sunday, the Alabama men’s basketball team added a 5th recruit to its 2020 recruiting class as four-star forward Alex Tchikou committed to the Crimson Tide.

This news comes a week after he shared with Rivals.com that he was switching recruiting classes from 2021 to 2020. He had this to say about his decision:

“I think I’m ready to skip my senior year. I have played against the best seniors in the country this season as a junior and I put numbers against all of them. I had a lot of comments from people surprised that I was only a junior. The other reason is that I hope (to be) getting drafted after one year in college but my original plan was the Draft 2022 and I think two years of college is better than one year in high school and one in college.”

He also shared how “style of play” and the “relationship with coaching staff and head coach, and have a chance to play as a freshman,” was going to be a big factor as well. It makes even more sense as to why he chose Alabama.

Tchikou, a four star forward from Glendale, Arizona (originally from France), is ranked as the 58th best player, and the 11th best power forward in the country, according to 247Sports.

Tchikou had offers from Arizona, FSU, Mississippi State, and more.

After Tchikou’s commitment, Alabama now has the 12th best 2020 recruiting in the country, according to 247Sports.

Tchikou is joining four-star guard Josh Primo, four-star forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton, three-star forward Darius Miles,as well as three-star JUCO transfer Keon Ellis. Jordan Bruner also joined Alabama after transferring from Yale.

There’s no doubt with the talent returning for the Crimson Tide, plus a top 15 2020 recruiting class, Nate Oats may be about to provide the type of season Alabama fans have been hoping for, for many years.

The Alabama Crimson Tide’s first game of the season will be on Tuesday, November 10th against Jacksonville State in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

LOOK: Coleman Coliseum gets updated court

Alabama basketball’s home court receives a bit of a makeover heading into the 2020-2021 college basketball season.

The Crimson Standard renovations have yet to hit the home of Alabama Basketball, Coleman Coliseum, but the Crimson Tide’s court did receive a bit of a makeover.

Less than a month ago, Wayne James, who works at Coleman, posted these three pictures of the court been stripped of it’s stain and paint, as well as the seats being covered in tarp.

The makeover referenced in the tweet was unveiled via Alabama Athletics’ Twitter earlier today.

The ‘Script A’ at half-court is now surrounded with a silhouette of the state of Alabama. The baselines that cover the court also appear to be a deeper crimson.

There’s no word yet on when the Crimson Standard renovations will begin on Coleman, but the finished product is expected to look like the renditions in the tweet below.

Nate Oats will head into his second season as head coach of Alabama men’s basketball team with a top-25 recruiting class that has a lot of Crimson Tide fans excited.

Today, it was announced on Instragram live via Alabama super-fan, Luke Ratliff (@Fluffopotamus), that the Crimson Tide will be facing off against Jacksonville State on Tuesday, Nov. 10 for the 2020 home opener in Coleman Coliseum.

The 2019-2020 college basketball season was cut short for Alabama during the SEC Tournament in Nashville due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, their regular season record ended up being just one game above .500 (16-15).

Oats will look to lead this team into a postseason that fans can look forward to. With the cancellation of basketball’s tournaments in 2020, and Alabama’s first-round exit in the 2019 NIT vs. Norfolk St., the last time Crimson Tide fans looked forward to the postseason was with Colin Sexton in 2018.
