Week 13 snap counts: Seattle Seahawks vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Seattle Seahawks split their running back duo nearly identically in their Monday night victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

The Seattle Seahawks are officially in first place in the NFC West after defeating the Minnesota Vikings, 37-30, in front of a raucous crowd on Monday Night Football.

One of the biggest successes on Monday was the pairing of Rashaad Penny and Chris Carson in the backfield, as the duo nearly split playing time identically – with Carson getting 39 snaps and Penny getting 35.

Additionally on offense, receiver Tyler Lockett was on the field for 66 snaps despite coming into the game with flu-like symptoms.

Jacob Hollister remains the team’s primary option at tight end, earning 61 snaps, while veteran receiver Jaron Brown saw eight snaps in his first game action after being inactive in each of the last two weeks.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Seahawks once again relied heavily on their base 4-3 defense. Mychal Kendricks and Cody Barton had 27 and 11 snaps, respectively, while nickel corner Akeem King had 18 snaps – which equaled 33 percent of Seattle’s defensive plays.

Here is a complete look at the snap counts and playing time percentages for the Seahawks on Monday night.

Updated Seahawks injuries ahead of Vikings matchup Monday night

Here’s a look at the Seattle Seahawks player injury updates ahead of the Week 13 contest against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.

The Seattle Seahawks need every available healthy player Monday night when they square off against the Minnesota Vikings in primetime.

A number of players have been battling an illness that has been going around the team, but coach Pete Carroll expects everyone affected should be cleared to play for the Week 13 matchup.

Carroll also provided a number of injury updates after practice concluded Saturday afternoon.

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (core): “We just practiced him very lightly today, but he did well yesterday and he’s fine,” Carroll said. “He should be ready to go.” Defensive tackle Jarran Reed (ankle) is “ready to go” as well.

Defensive tackle Al Woods (ankle):  “He had a sore foot and we just made sure we gave him rest on it,” Carroll explained. “He practiced today and he looked fine.”

Linebacker Mychal Kendricks: (hamstring): “Yeah, he had a little tightness in his hammy yesterday, so we thought we’d rest him today and get a couple days here to cool him down,” Carroll noted. “He takes a lot of reps in practices and loves to really go. We just thought it’d be best to rest him and see what happens. We don’t need to check him on gameday, though.”

Tight end Luke Willson (hamstring):  “He made really good progress,” Carroll said. “He was flying up and down the field. We got to be careful with this one because we just don’t want it to linger. We’ll make a late decision on this one.”

Guard Mike Iupati (neck):  “He’s been limited a little bit during the week, but he’s ready to go,” Carroll confirmed.

Pete Carroll confident Jadeveon Clowney, Jarran Reed will play Monday

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is confident that Jadeveon Clowney, Jarran Reed and Al Woods will all suit up on Monday night.

The Seattle Seahawks listed five players as questionable ahead of their Monday night matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, but coach Pete Carroll is optimistic many – if not all – of them will play.

Jadeveon Clowney, Jarran Reed, Mychal Kendricks, Al Woods and Luke Willson – all starters or important contributors – were listed as questionable ahead of Saturday afternoon’s practice.

Clowney is the most notable, having sat out last week against the Eagles with a core injury that will not require surgery, but will force him to play through pain for the rest of the year.

“We practiced him very lightly today but he did well yesterday,” Carroll said on Saturday. “He should be ready to go.”

Clowney is expected to be joined on the defensive line by both Reed and Woods. Reed suffered an ankle injury against the Eagles, but after being limited at practice this week he is expected to be recovered in time to play against Minnesota.

Woods is also dealing with an ankle injury, although it sounds like his situation is more veteran rest than anything else.

“He had a sore foot, we just made sure to give him some rest on it,” Carroll said. “He practiced today and looked fine. This is the time of the year where those guys, they ain’t gonna be perfect but they all feel like they can play.”

While Carroll was optimistic about his three defensive linemen, he was less confident about Kendricks and Willson – who are both dealing with hamstring injuries.

“He had a little tightness in his hammy yesterday so we thought we’d rest him today and get him a couple days here to cool him down,” Carroll said about Kendricks. “He takes a lot of reps in practices and so we thought it would be best to just rest him. We’ll see what happens. We’ll need to check him on game day though.”

Kendricks is the team’s SAM linebacker and has played a lot this year with the team sticking primarily in their base 4-3 defense. If he is unable to go, expect to see a lot of Cody Barton, and potentially more of either Akeem King or Ugo Amadi in the nickel role.

Willson missed last Sunday’s game against Philadelphia with a hamstring injury, but Carroll has continued to be pleased with how rapidly he has worked to recover and get back on the field.

“He made really good progress, he was flying up and down the field,” Carroll said. “We just gotta be careful, we just don’t want it to linger. We’ll wait to make a decision on this one.”

Willson is a big part of Seattle’s offense, but the recent play of Jacob Hollister and the promotion of Tyrone Swoopes from the practice squad allows the team to give Willson some extra recovery time, if needed.

Seattle Seahawks defensive player of the game: CB Tre Flowers

Flowers led the team with three passes defended while also racking up seven combined tackles, third on the team behind Kendricks and K.J. Wright.

The Seattle Seahawks defense was excellent on Sunday morning against the Philadelphia Eagles, forcing Carson Wentz into multiple mistakes and making up for an ugly game from the Seattle offense, ultimately leading to the team’s 17-9 victory.

While there were multiple players who could have been named defensive player of the game, including Ziggy Ansah, Shaquem Griffin, Mychal Kendricks, and Bradley McDougald, the award goes to cornerback Tre Flowers.

Flowers led the team with three passes defended while also racking up seven combined tackles, third on the team behind Kendricks and K.J. Wright.

Most importantly, he had a crucial interception late in the fourth quarter, which ended up icing the game.

Flowers has had his ups and downs this season, his second as a starter after getting drafted out of Oklahoma State – where he exclusively played safety.

He fits the bill as a lengthy, physical outside cornerback in Pete Carroll’s system, and his performance on Sunday proved he is coming into his own.

While it hasn’t always been pretty, Flowers may be taking the route of other late-round cornerbacks turned stars in Seattle, a staple of the Carroll/John Schneider/Legion of Boom era in the Emerald City.

The Seahawks are now 9-2 on the season, although the rest of their schedule will require a lot of work if they want to be more than a wild card team in the crowded NFC.

3 things to watch: Seahawks at Eagles

The Seattle Seahawks will look to earn their ninth win of the season on Sunday morning against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

The Seattle Seahawks are coming off the bye week with another tough 10:00 a.m. road game, this time in Philadelphia against a 5-5 Eagles squad.

Seattle (8-2) will have their work cut out for them in this one, the start of a brutal stretch of games they’ll need to win nearly all of if they want to have any chance of securing an NFC West title and/or a bye in the playoffs.

At this point every game matters a great deal, and this one will have plenty of exciting storylines for fans to pay attention to.

Seahawks LB Mychal Kendricks’ sentencing hearing postponed again

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks’ sentencing hearing was delayed again in his insider trading case.

For the fifth time, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks’ sentencing date was postponed in his insider trading case, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson.

Kendricks was scheduled to have his sentencing hearing on Thursday in Philadelphia, just three days before the Seahawks play there against the Eagles.

According to Henderson, the case is now on the docket for February. Kendricks is facing potential prison time for insider trading, which he pleaded guilty to back in the fall of 2018. Kendricks will be a free agent at the end of the year.

The date was originally set for Jan. 23, then Jan. 25, April 14, Sept. 25 and most recently Nov. 21.

Sentencing dates get postponed for a lot of reasons, and it is not uncommon for them to be changed at the request of the defense or the U.S. attorney.

Kendricks has been Seattle’s starting Sam linebacker this season, and although he has struggled in his second year with the team he still creates a formidable trio of linebackers alongside veterans K.J. Wright and Bobby Wagner.
