Solari: Five takeaways from MSU football’s final spring practice

Check out Detroit Free Press reporter Chris Solari’s few key takeaways from Michigan State football’s final spring practice on Saturday

Michigan State football has close out the spring and can start to turn its focus to the 2023 season.

The Spartans held their annual spring game — or really spring open practice — on Saturday from Spartan Stadium. It gave fans and media the opportunity to get an early look at the 2023 Spartans, and put together some thoughts on key items surrounding the team.

One of key things to watch was the quarterback battle, which appears to be a two-man race between returning starter Payton Thorne and backup Noah Kim. What else got the attention of the local media? See what Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press put down as his main takeaways from the event by clicking on the tweet below:–

Media analysis and takeaways from ‘Spartan Football Kickoff’ event

See what the local media had to say about the Spartans after taking in Saturday’s open practice from Spartan Stadium

Michigan State football wrapped up its spring practice schedule with it’s annual spring game (really an open practice) on Saturday afternoon from Spartan Stadium.

The “Spartan Football Kickoff” event served as an opportunity for fans to return to Spartan Stadium and get their first up close look at the 2023 team. This also was an opportunity for the media to dissect the Spartans, and come up with some early takeaways before we hit the fall.

Here are a few of the notable takeaways and thoughts from local media members who cover the Spartans and were in attendance on Saturday:

Michigan State football spring game date announced

See when Michigan State football is holding its annual spring game this year

Michigan State football will officially open spring practice tomorrow, and we now know when it will conclude with the annual spring game.

Spartans head coach Mel Tucker met with the local media on Monday to preview spring ball for Michigan State, and confirmed the annual spring game will take place on April 15. He said the game format is still yet to be determined.

In previous years, the spring game has been more of an open practice for fans to attend for free. More details on this year’s spring game will be announced closer to the event in mid-April.

Michigan State Football releases spring schedule including Spring Game date

Michigan State football will kick off spring ball on Tuesday and wrap it up with their annual Spring Game on April 24.

Michigan State football will kick off spring ball on Tuesday and wrap it up with their annual Spring Game on April 24.

The Spartans released the complete spring practice schedule on Tuesday morning, with Michigan State practicing every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning for the next five weeks. Spring ball will conclude on April 24 with the annual Spring Game scrimmage.

As Chris Solari of The Detroit Free Press pointed out in the tweet above, details surrounding the Spring Game have yet to be released. In the past fans could attend the game for free, however, I would anticipate only a limited number of fans could attend (if fans are even allowed) this year’s game due to COVID-19.

In the past, Michigan State’s Spring Game has been televised so if only a limited number of fans — or if no fans at all — can attend the game, then there’s a good chance it can at least be watched on TV.

Stay with Spartans Wire for additional updates on the Spring Game and more from Michigan State’s spring practice season.
