The college football season is upon us and can’t come soon enough with plenty of excitement surrounding the Michigan State program. The Spartans are coming off a pair of losing seasons but have a new leader at the helm of the program, Jonathan Smith, who hopefully will get the program back on track in East Lansing, Michigan.

The new college football season is only a week away now! Here is the finalized Michigan State football 2024 schedule:

MSU Football considered to have one of hardest schedules in Big Ten

See where MSU ranks among its peers in CBS Sports’ hardest schedules rankings for the Big Ten teams

Frankly, there are no easy schedules in the Big Ten. But, Michigan State has apparently one of the hardest ones.

Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports ranked the Big Ten teams in hardest to weakest schedules, and unfortunately Michigan State has one of the harder slates. Fornelli put Michigan State at No. 6 in his rankings, noting the Spartans’ brutal four-game middle stretch of Ohio State, at Oregon, Iowa and at Michigan as a main reason for why its so difficult.

Here’s a bit of what Fornelli had to say about Michigan State’s schedule:

“Michigan State’s schedule should be broken into three parts. The first part features four games against Florida Atlantic and Prairie View at home and road games against Maryland and Boston College. The road games aren’t fun, but it’s manageable for a program with a new coach and a new quarterback. …”

MSU football once again has one of the toughest schedules in the country, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index

Michigan State football once again has one of the toughest schedules in the country, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI).

ESPN has recently updated its FPI ratings, which also indicates who has the country’s hardest schedules. Florida has the hardest schedule in the country but Michigan State isn’t too far behind at No. 19.

Of Big Ten teams, Michigan State has the seventh-hardest schedule in the league. Check out the post below to see the top 25 hardest schedules this upcoming season:

Big Ten releases future conference football schedules for MSU, rest of league

Michigan State football will be heading to Oregon next year as a new Big Ten conference matchup

Michigan State football will be heading to Oregon next year as a new Big Ten conference matchup.

The Big Ten released the official conference schedule for the next five seasons on Thursday, with the most notable update being a road game at Oregon in the Ducks first year in the league. Michigan State will also play Michigan, Maryland and Illinois on the road, and host Indiana, Iowa, Ohio State, Purdue and Rutgers as part of the 2024 conference schedule.

Other big takeaways from the upcoming conference schedules released on Thursday includes a road game at USC and home game against UCLA in 2025, and home matchups against Oregon and Washington in 2026.

Michigan State football 2023 schedule

The countdown to Sept. 1 has begun! Check out the updated Michigan State football 2023 schedule with game times and TV details

The countdown to Sept. 1 has begun, Spartans fans.

The college football offseason is upon us and the 2023 season can’t come soon enough after a disappointing campaign for Michigan State. The Spartans entered the 2022 season with high expectations as a fringe preseason top 10 team, but finished 2022 with a 5-7 losing record.

It’s time to flush the 2022 season and look ahead to 2023. Here is the Michigan State football 2023 schedule with updated kickoff times that have been recently released:

Analyzing each Big Ten team’s protected rivals, two-play opponents for 2024-25 seasons

Breaking down the “two-play opponents” and protected rivals for Michigan State and the rest of the Big Ten

We officially know what Big Ten football will look like once USC and UCLA join the league in 2024.

The Big Ten revealed its new scheduling model for the 2024 and 2025 seasons on Thursday, which will be the first two seasons with USC and UCLA in the conference. The Big Ten will move away from the East and West Divisions and will use the “two-play opponents” model which essentially means you will play these three teams in both 2024 and 2025. Part of that is the inclusion of protected rivals which will be games that remain in place annually after the 2025 season (i.e. Michigan-Michigan State, Michigan-Ohio State, Iowa-Wisconsin, etc.).

This new model was what was expected and is something I even speculated about earlier this year when I tried to predict who each team would get as their protected rivals. I’m back again to see how my predictions compared to the official rotations released on Thursday, and to offer up my general thoughts on each pairing below:

Big Ten to announce 2024 football conference schedule on Thursday

The official finalized Michigan State football 2024 schedule will be announced on Thursday.

The official finalized Michigan State football 2024 schedule will be announced on Thursday.

The Big Ten will announce the 2024 conference schedule and future scheduling model on Thursday afternoon. The schedule will be revealed during a televised event on the Big Ten Network at 4:30 p.m. ET.

The announcement of the 2024 conference schedule is especially notable as it’ll be the first season with USC and UCLA in the Big Ten. It’ll also indicate whether or not the league will move away from the East and West Divisions model — which has long been speculated after the announcement of USC and UCLA joining the league.

Michigan State’s non-conference schedule for 2024 currently includes home games against Florida Atlantic and Louisana and a road game at Boston College. The remaining nine games will be against Big Ten teams.

Game-by-game predictions for Michigan State football in 2023

Check out our early game-by-game predictions for Michigan State football in 2023

Will the Spartans rebound in 2023? I think there’s a decent chance of that occurring — depending on what you’re expectations are for Michigan State this next season.

Michigan State football is coming off a disappointing season in 2022 and will be looking to return to the postseason in 2023. There are mixed feelings on the Spartans after an up-and-down offseason, but I’m expecting Michigan State to once again reach the bowl season regardless of what the national and betting experts have to say.

I haven’t done a particularly great job in my game-by-game predictions the past two years — undersold the Spartans in 2021 and oversold them in 2022 — but I’m back again with some early thoughts on how the 2023 season could play out. So here are my game-by-game predictions for the Spartans’ 2023 campaign:
