CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli gives his game-by-game picks for MSU in 2024

Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports likes the Spartans to go bowling this upcoming season

Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports likes the Spartans to go bowling this upcoming season.

Fornelli filed game-by-game predictions for each Big Ten team for the upcoming season last week, and he likes the Spartans to reach bowl eligibility. He has Michigan State finishing the season with a 7-5 record, with notable wins over Boston College, Iowa and Rutgers.

Michigan State is coming off back-to-back losing seasons where they didn’t reach bowl eligibility. However, a new coaching staff lead by head coach Jonathan Smith should hopefully change the tides for the Spartans.

Click on the post below to see who exactly Fornelli thinks the Spartans will beat and lose to this upcoming season:

Will Michigan State get back to a bowl game in 2023 despite a brutally tough schedule? ESPN’s Football Power Index rating system believes so.

An updated version of ESPN’s FPI was released earlier in August, and the computer rating system was rather high on the Spartans. Michigan State came in as the fifth-highest-rated team in the Big Ten and listed at No. 31 nationally. That’s not too bad after a disappointing season in 2022.

So how many games does the ESPN FPI rating project the Spartans to win next year? Check out game-by-game predictions from ESPN’s FPI for each of Michigan State’s matchups in 2023:

What kind of encore can we expect from Michigan State after last year’s breakout season under Mel Tucker?

The Spartans took a massive leap forward in 2021, going from 2-5 to 11-2 and winning the Peach Bowl. Now, the question is whether Michigan State can build off last year’s success and duplicate it with another strong season in 2022.
