LOOK: Latest view of where MSU lands in Big Ten Tournament bracket

See where MSU currently sits in the Big Ten Tournament bracket with less than three weeks to go in the season

Michigan State’s loss to Iowa on Tuesday night may have cost them the double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament.

As of right now, Michigan State is playing on Thursday afternoon and sitting as the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. A win over Iowa on Tuesday night would have put the Spartans into the top of four of the league and into that double-bye spot.

As of right now — which will certainly change by the end of this week — the Spartans would play the winner of No. 12 Maryland and No. 13 Ohio State in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

The Big Ten Tournament is just about a month away now, and that means fans are starting to dive into how the bracket could shape up for their favorite teams. For the Spartans, they’d currently be just outside the double-bye as a No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

Michigan State would play the winner of Ohio State and Maryland in their opening game of the tournament. Should they win that matchup, they’d move on to face Northwestern in the quarterfinals on Friday.

MSU basketball vs. Ohio State at Big Ten Tournament: Stream, broadcast info, three things to watch, prediction

MSU basketball faces Ohio State on Friday at the Big Ten Tournament– here’s what you need to know for this matchup between the Spartans and Buckeyes

Michigan State basketball battles Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals on Friday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Spartans have been off for a nearly week, and will make their debut at the Big Ten Tournament on Friday after earning a double-bye as the No. 4 seed. Michigan State enters this game firmly in the NCAA Tournament at 19-11 overall but could bolster their tournament seeding with a win on Friday.

Ohio State is in a completely different boat from the Spartans, needing to win the entire Big Ten Tournament to reach the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes have already beaten a pair of solid teams this week at the Big Ten Tournament, with a victory over Wisconsin on Wednesday and win over Iowa on Thursday.

Michigan State swept the season series of Ohio State, including a victory over the Buckeyes in their last game out on Saturday.

MSU picked to win Big Ten Tournament by 247Sports’ Travis Branham

Travis Branham of 247Sports likes the Spartans chances of coming out champions this next weekend

Travis Branham of 247Sports likes the Spartans’ chances of coming out of this weekend as champions.

Branham released his picks for each of the major conference tournaments, and he likes the Spartans’ chances in Chicago. Branham picked Michigan State to win the Big Ten Tournament, citing Tom Izzo’s success in March as a key factor in a wide open conference tournament.

Here’s some of what Branham had to say about the Spartans:

“If Michigan State makes it to that matchup against Purdue, that will be one to keep a close eye on. Given the lack of power in the conference and perimeter play, I am betting once again on Tom Izzo in March.”

Michigan State is the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament that begins on Wednesday. The Spartans will play either Ohio State, Wisconsin or Iowa in their quarterfinal on Friday.

MSU basketball gets double-bye, lands as No. 4 seed in Big Ten Tournament

Michigan State basketball will not return to the court until Friday — which is exactly what they were hoping for entering Sunday

Michigan State basketball will not return to the court until Friday, which is exactly what it was hoping for entering Sunday.

The Spartans were able to watch the rest of the league on Sunday, and the results went their way, giving them the No. 4 seed and a double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament. The other three teams finishing with the double-bye are Purdue (No. 1 seed), Northwestern (No. 2) and Indiana (No. 3).

Michigan State beat Ohio State on Saturday afternoon to end the regular season 19-11 overall and 11-8 in conference. On Sunday, wins by Penn State over Maryland, Purdue over Illinois and Nebraska over Iowa bumped the Spartans to the No. 4 seed. Michigan State would have moved up to the No. 3 seed had Rutgers also won at home against Northwestern.

Michigan State will face the winner between No. 5 Iowa and the No. 12 Wisconsin/No. 13 Ohio State winner on Friday at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET.

MSU-UM matchup in Big Ten Tournament appears likely entering final day of regular season

If the favorites take care of business on Sunday, there’s a very strong chance Michigan and Michigan State will play for a third time this year

If the favorites take care of business on Sunday, there’s a very strong chance Michigan and Michigan State will play for a third time this year.

Michigan State has wrapped up the regular season — finishing at 19-11 overall and 11-8 in conference play — and will wait until Sunday night to know its seed and possible matchup in next week’s Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans could finish as high as a No. 3 seed and as low as a No. 7 seed based on results from Sunday’s six final league games.

One of the possibilities includes a potential matchup with rival Michigan in the quarterfinals on Friday. According to Spartans fan Andrew Cumbow, if Indiana beats Michigan, Iowa beats Nebraska, Penn State beats Maryland, Purdue beats Illinois and Rutgers beats Northwestern on Sunday, the Spartans would land as the No. 4 seed and Michigan as the No. 5 seed. This sounds like a lot to have happen, but all of those outcomes are the intended results based on Vegas odds so it really doesn’t seem that unlikely to occur.

In this scenario, Michigan would also need to beat the winner of the No. 12/13 seed matchup on Thursday to create the rivalry pairing with the Spartans on Friday. That would most likely be against Nebraska or Ohio State so I like the Wolverines’ chances to advance to the quarterfinals.

We will know where the Spartans and Wolverines land by about 9:30 p.m. ET on Sunday night. But don’t be surprised if it includes a likely matchup between these two rivals next Friday.
