Former Spartan Deyonta Davis acquired by Motor City Cruise, the Detroit Pistons G League affiliate

Deyonta Davis is coming home… sort of. The former Spartan standout who infamously left school earlier than many thought he should to pursue a career in the NBA will be returning to the state of Michigan to play with the Motor City Cruise, the G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.

The Cruise acquired the rights to Davis from the Santa Cruz Warriors in exchange for a third round pick in the 2022 NBA G League draft.

Still only 24 years old, Davis was drafted in the second round of the 2016 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics and then immediately traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. Davis was, again infamously, the first player to be invited to the NBA draft green room to not be selected in the first round since Maciej Lampe in 2003.

Since then, he has largely played in the G League with some small stints coming at the NBA level here and there.
