SEC analyst praises Hugh Freeze’s coordinator hires

This popular SEC analyst says that Hugh Freeze has “knocked it out of the park.”

Sometimes, things are just worth the wait.

Auburn fans were growing antsy due to the lack of news regarding coordinators for Hugh Freeze’s staff. The wait ended on Sunday night when news broke of the hires of Philip Montgomery as offensive coordinator and Ron Roberts as defensive coordinator.

[autotag]Roberts[/autotag] led the Baylor Bears to a great season defensively, and [autotag]Montgomery[/autotag] has a great track record of developing offensive players and directing them to produce impressive numbers.

Fans, as well as the national media, were pleased with the hires. One analyst, in particular, says that Hugh Freeze “knocked it out of the park.”

SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum was a guest on the Monday edition of “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning,” where he discussed the hires of Montgomery and Roberts. Finebaum said he likes the hire of Montgomery as offensive coordinator, due to his experience working with Art Briles.

“You’re talking about (Philip Montgomery) in as OC who was working high school with Art Briles,” Finebaum said. “You’re talking about somebody that understands every aspect of offense, especially where the offensive philosophies are today. I think (Freeze has) done extremely well.”

While he is impressed with the hires, Finebaum says he is not all that surprised Freeze was able to pull off great hires.

“With the resources that Auburn has and the money behind that school right now and the energy behind that school, you knew he could go out there and bring in good coordinators, perhaps not to this caliber,” Finebaum said.

Both hires became official on Monday, as both coordinators have officially changed their Twitter display photos to Auburn-related ones. Roberts has also stayed busy by interacting with Auburn fans on the social media platform.

Henry Ruggs III looks to give back to Las Vegas community

Former Alabama WR Henry Ruggs III discusses giving back to the Las Vegas community and what it means to him.

Former Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was the first pass-catcher to be selected in the 2020 NFL draft, and one of two former Crimson Tide receivers to be drafted in the first round. Ruggs will be calling Las Vegas his new home after being selected by the Raiders with the No. 12 pick.

Though, when he found out that Las Vegas is where his NFL career will begin, he looked to see how he could get involved within the community before even stepping foot into the city.

A news story done by Paloma Villicana from FOX5 Vegas, shows Ruggs signing a series of autographs and taking pictures with fans at an event. He’s also discussing his plans to become an active member within the Las Vegas community.

“Once I found out that Vegas would be my new home, I immediately reached out and tried to find out some things I can get involved in with the community, because that’s big to me, big with giving back,” says Ruggs. “I’m actually, you know, still doing a couple things, back home, for my high school and kids back home, just to make sure that they can see the things that I’m doing and have that motivation and inspiration. Since I’m moving here, this will be my new home, I definitely want to get involved in the community just to make my presence known off the field.”

Ruggs went to Robert E. Lee High school in Montgomery, Alabama, where he is an active member within the community.

Recently, the star wide receiver announced, via Twitter, that he will be selling  t-shirts and the proceeds will go toward feeding families in Southern Nevada and other proceeds will be donated to the Rod Scott foundation.

Roll Tide Wire wishes Ruggs the best of luck in Las Vegas and is excited to see what he can do on the field for the Raiders, and off the field for the community!

Bronny James scores 10 points for Sierra Canyon in high school basketball debut

Bronny James scores 10 points for No. 3 ranked Sierra Canyon Trailblazers in high school basketball debut.

Bronny James made his high school basketball debut for Sierra Canyon on Thursday and played well coming off the bench during an overwhelming victory. The oldest son of LeBron James is only a freshman and has already earned a spot in the rotation for a high school hoops juggernaut that is currently ranked No. 3 in the country.

During what was eventually decided as a 91-44 victory over Montgomery High School in San Diego at the San Diego Tip-Off Challenge, James would connect on a pair of triples and finish with 10 points. With 7:12 remaining in the second quarter, Bronny would connect on a 3-pointer from the left wing for the first high school bucket of his career.

Jordan Divens of MaxPreps.com described the win for the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers as a wire-to-wire victory.

“The two-time defending CIF Open Division state champions jumped to a 7-0 advantage and led by as many as 53 points in the wire-to-wire victory.

The Trailblazers were paced by strong efforts from Kentucky pledge B.J. Boston, who finished with 22 points to lead all scorers, and TCU commit Terren Frank, who chipped in 20.

James – the son of Lakers star and NBA legend LeBron James – produced 10 points off the bench. The freshman knocked down a pair of threes from the left corner and added a couple of layups.”

As a note, the 10 points that Bronny scored were just one half point away from the over/under of 10.5 on the season that BetOnline released just before tip-off. Meanwhile, Dwyane Wade’s son, Zaire Wade, added six points for Sierra Canyon in the victory.
