On this day: Walker, Perkins, Erden, Harangody trades; Becker born

On this day in Celtics history, Boston dealt away Antoine Walker, Kendrick Perkins, Semih Erden, and Luke Harangody, and Moe Becker was born.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, forward Antoine Devon Walker began playing for the team that drafted him in what would be his second stint with Boston after being dealt back to the Celtics by the Atlanta Hawks.

Walker had been selected by the storied franchise out of the University of Kentucky with the sixth overall pick of the 1996 NBA draft. Now, he was reunited with his former college head coach Rick Pitino after his rookie season (in which he made All-Rookie First Team) with the Celtics as Pitino was hired as the team’s head coach and president.

Walker would link up with future Boston champion Paul Pierce after he was also drafted by the Celtics in 1998 to make a few deep runs in the postseason in his first stint with the team.

On this day: ML Carr born; Boston forward Brandon Hunter debuted; Moe Becker passes

On this day, former Boston Celtic player and GM ML Carr was born, and forward Brandon Hunter made his debut for the team.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, future Celtics player, head coach, and general manager of the storied franchise Michael Leon “ML” Carr was born in Wallace, North Carolina back in 1951.

Carr, who is one of several former Celtics players to coach the team after having played for Boston (along with Tommy Heinsohn, Satch Sanders, Dave Cowens, Chris Ford, KC Jones, and Bill Russell), played his collegiate basketball with the Guilford Quakers, an NCAA Division III school. The North Carolina native got his start in pro ball in the American Basketball Association (ABA — a competing league that would merge with the NBA in 1978).

He played with the ABA’s Spirits of St. Louis before leaving the league to play for the NBA’s Detroit Pistons.

On this day: Boston trades Davis, Wafer for Bass; deals Kappen for Becker

On this day, the Boston Celtics swapped Glen Davis and Von Wafer for Brandon Bass and dealt Tony Kappen for Moe Becker.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, the storied franchise traded champion big man Glen Davis and small forward Von Wafer to the Orlando Magic for power forward Brandon Bass in 2011.

Davis had been picked up by the Seattle Supersonics with the 35th overall pick of the 2007 NBA draft before being dealt to the Celtics with Ray Allen for Jeff Green, Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West, and draft assets that same night, winning a title in his first season in the league. Wafer signed with the team as a free agent after having been drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 39th pick of the 2005 draft.

By the time of the trade, Wafer had already played for a number of teams around the league, including the Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Houston Rockets.
