Davis had been picked up by the Seattle Supersonics with the 35th overall pick of the 2007 NBA draft before being dealt to the Celtics with Ray Allen for Jeff Green, Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West, and draft assets that same night, winning a title in his first season in the league. Wafer signed with the team as a free agent after having been drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 39th pick of the 2005 draft.

By the time of the trade, Wafer had already played for a number of teams around the league, including the Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Houston Rockets.

On this day: Henry Walker, Arnie Risen, Kenny and Jerome Anderson born; Kenny Rollins passes

On this day, former Celtics Henry Walker, Arnie Risen, and Jerome, and Kenny Anderson (no relation) were born, and Kenny Rollins passed away.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, Boston alumnus point guard Kenny Anderson was born in Queens, New York in 1970. Anderson was a highly sought-after recruit as a teenager and would play his college ball with Georgia Tech, where he would earn two consecutive All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors among several others.

He was taken with the second overall pick of the 1991 NBA draft by the (then) New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) Nets, where he would play five seasons before being dealt to the Charlotte Hornets in January of 1996. He would sign with the Portland Trail Blazers at the end of that season as a free agent, who would later deal him to the Toronto Raptors in 1998.

Anderson would finally find his way to Boston when the Raps dealt him to the Celtics five days later with Popeye Jones and Žan Tabak for Chauncey Billups, Dee Brown, Roy Rogers, and John Thomas.

Every player in Boston Celtics history who wore No. 42

Today’s installment focuses on the 14 players who wore No. 42 over the years as of Aug. 2023.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their jerseys have little history of interest tied to them.

In fact, with 17 titles to their name and decades of competitive basketball played in them, their unretired jersey numbers pack in some of the most history not hanging from the rafters of any team in the league. To that end, we have launched our accounting of that history, with every player in every jersey worn by more than one Celtics player in the storied franchise’s history accounted for.

Today’s installment focuses on the 14 players who wore No. 42 over the years as of Aug. 2023.

Ranking every No. 53 pick made in the NBA draft by the Boston Celtics

Our fifth installment of ranking every pick from Nos. 1 to 60, we compare the five picks the Boston Celtics have made 53rd overall.

Having arrived at the sixth edition of our ranking of every Boston Celtics draft pick by the number they were drafted at Nos. 1 through 60, we arrive at No. 53, which the franchise has selected at seven times in their 70 year history.

The picks made at this number began in 1963 and continued until 2017, the most recent draft Boston selected 53rd overall.

As one might be expected in this late position in the draft, there are no stars to speak of. But there are two NBA champions to speak of, and a few faces that might be familiar to comparatively recent fans of the Celtics.

As has been the case for all installments in this series, we use a rubric which values their achievements with Boston primarily, with their successes before and after their selection being used to rank players if the differences in green and white are small — or nonexistent.
