MLB trade tracker 2023: All the biggest deals before Tuesday’s deadline

All the big deals, in one place, ahead of the trade deadline.

MLB trade deadline madness has officially come and gone now that the 6 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday has passed.

We’ve seen some big deals involving contenders (the Los Angeles Angels definitely count now that they’re keeping Shohei Ohtani and adding arms and bats) and those out of the playoff race who are waving the white flag (hello, New York Mets, see their trades below).

MORE: The winners (Shohei Ohtani) and losers (Yankees!) of the 2023 MLB trade deadline.

It’s hard to keep track of all the major deals, but that’s what this list is for! We’ll keep updating it through Tuesday when deadline drops and include a bunch of the trades from the week before.

Let’s dive in:

The winners (Shohei Ohtani) and losers (Yankees!) of the 2023 MLB trade deadline

The winners and losers of the 2023 MLB trade deadline.

A wild 2023 MLB trade deadline — which featured so many deals leading up to Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET — has come and gone, and there’s so much to buzz about.

A few contenders — the Angels and Rangers, for two — got stronger. Shohei Ohtani didn’t get dealt. Not as much as the top tier of the MLB’s best. But there was no lack of news and drama … and you never know if these moves will truly pay off with the postseason format that means anyone can make a run.

MORE: Every major MLB trade deadline deal, in one place

So as we do every year, we’ll declare who won big and who lost in the process (note that some things might change after the 6 p.m. ET deadline as the last-minute deals come in).

Jon Heyman’s ‘Oasres’ typo inspired another great meme around the MLB trade deadline

They should trade for Arson Judge next!

When you write for a living, typos are inevitable — especially in a fast-paced environment like breaking news. But at this point, MLB Network and New York Post baseball reporter Jon Heyman has to be in on the joke.

His typos have been too good.

This past December, Heyman reported that then-free agent Yankees slugger Aaron Judge appeared to be heading to the San Francisco Giants. But instead of spelling “Aaron” correctly, Heyman’s initial tweet had the player’s name as “Arson Judge.” That, of course, had MLB fans turning the tweet into a meme, and it was only made better when Judge remained with the Yankees.

Ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, Heyman tried to report on the Padres’ trade to acquire Ji Man Choi and Rich Hill. He just didn’t call the team the Padres. Who are the Oasres?

Again, typos happen. But Heyman’s typos have been next level.

You can’t blame fans for making plenty of jokes about the now-deleted tweet. The Oasres are looking like buyers this deadline — that’s for sure!

MLB trade rumors: 10 players remaining who could be dealt by the 2023 deadline

Who’s left on the MLB trade market after a bunch of trades? Here’s a look.

Just because the 2023 MLB trade deadline is 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 1 doesn’t mean all the wheeling and dealing has to take place on that day.

Already, we’ve seen some huge deals, with the Anaheim Angels shoving all-in and surrounding Shohei Ohtani with help on the mound and in the lineup.

And as of Monday morning, there are still some noteworthy names left despite the fact that our first version of this list is now outdated — Ohtani’s not getting dealt, Max Scherzer is now a Ranger, and Jordan Montgomery is joining him in Texas.

Let’s run through who could be left with the clock ticking:

MLB trade deadline 2023: Buy, sell or hold? What all 30 teams should do

Who should buy, sell or hold at the 2023 MLB trade deadline? Here’s your answer.

As of publishing this, we are under a week until the MLB trade deadline.

Will we see some big names move area codes? Will one of them be Shohei Ohtani? Shouldn’t the Los Angeles Angels trade him if they’re not going to re-sign him in the winter?

OK, it’s not just about Ohtani (although the buzz is mostly about him). It’s also about which teams can get the most in deals for those aforementioned big names, and which contenders can upgrade in the hopes of winning a World Series.

With that in mind, it’s time for our annual take on what every team should do: Buy now, sell now, or hold on to what they’ve got?

Let’s go:

14 MLB players who could be dealt at the 2023 trade deadline (Shohei Ohtani?)

Some names who could be dealt by Aug. 1.

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game is in the rearview mirror.

So it’s time to start focusing on the second half of the season, and that means the most pressing date is approaching: The 2023 MLB trade deadline, which is on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. ET.

There are plenty of tanking teams who will be sellers, and given all the contenders for playoff spots — including multiple Wild Card spots — it could mean another roller coaster ride of a trade deadline like we had last year.

So let’s run through some of the big names who could be dealt by the time that Tuesday rolls around:

World Series odds: Biggest movers after the MLB trade deadline

Only a couple teams actually improved their odds at the deadline.

The MLB trade deadline has come and gone, and one of the biggest trades in baseball history made it an eventful one.

The San Diego Padres acquired Juan Soto and Josh Bell from the Washington Nationals to add more pop to a scary lineup. But while the Padres were far from the only team to make a move Tuesday, they were one of the few to actually improve their odds to win the World Series.

Below, we take a look at the teams whose odds changed after the deadline, and as you’ll notice, most of them changed for the worst.

Noah Syndergaard trade grade: Who won the Angels and Phillies deal?

The Phillies have added Noah Syndergaard to bolster their pitching rotation, but is it a good deal?

The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Angels were trade partners earlier on Tuesday, but their biggest splash came right as closing time was being called at the 2022 MLB trade deadline.

On Tuesday, the Angels sent 29-year-old pitcher Noah Syndergaard to the Phillies in a race that came down to Philadelphia and the Toronto Blue Jays. Los Angeles moved their rebuild ahead at the MLB trade deadline, dealing away some big pieces as their spiral down the AL West standings continues.

The Phillies, meanwhile, were active at the trade deadline, adding Brandon Marsh, David Robertson, and Syndergaard while designating for assignment Jeurys Familia and Odubel Herrera. Let’s take a look at how each of these teams grade out on this one!

Christian Vazquez had his interview awkwardly cut short right after he was traded to the Astros

This was certainly an awkward moment for Christian Vazquez.

We’re getting down to the wire ahead of the MLB trade deadline and Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez is the latest domino to fall.

On Monday, less than 24 hours before the trade deadline, a bizarre situation occurred ahead of the Red Sox’s game against the Houston Astros. According to Jeff Passan, long-time Red Sox catcher Vazquez was on the move just hours before first pitch to… the hosting Astros.

It’s not often trades take a player between clubhouses like this, but Vazquez seemingly found out about the trade while he was on the field for warmups. Media for the Red Sox and Astros were able to track down Vazquez to ask him his thoughts on the trade, but before the 31-year-old catcher could get very far, Boston public relations awkwardly pulled him away from the crowd.

Vazquez was clearly still taking the trade in — he’s spent all eight years of his MLB career with the Red Sox and was the team’s longest-tenured member — as he was talking to the media, so it’s no wonder the PR representative stepped in. But man, what an awkward situation.

Even weirder is that Vazquez was just in hitters meetings with the Red Sox and now knows how his former team was planning on dealing with the Astros pitchers!

It’s a shame Vazquez’s time with the Red Sox has ended in such an unceremonious manner, as he was clearly beloved by his teammates and Boston fans alike.

Trey Mancini trade grades: Who won the 3-team deal between the Orioles, Astros and Rays?

Who won this trade? Let’s take a look.

Everyone around the Baltimore Orioles knew a Trey Mancini trade was coming at some point before Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline. It was a matter of when — not if.

Well, Monday was the day for the Orioles’ undisputed clubhouse leader to officially say goodbye to the only team he had played for in his career. And Orioles fans might not be too thrilled with the return.

The Orioles dealt Mancini to the Houston Astros on Monday as part of a three-team deal with the Tampa Bay Rays. In all, the Orioles got back two prospects for Mancini, and the Rays have a chance at restoring a struggling talent.

Let’s get into the details now and hand out some grades.
