Minnesota Wild at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Minnesota Wild at Los Angeles Kings NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Minnesota Wild (6-5-0) visit the Los Angeles Kings (4-6-3) Tuesday for a 10 p.m. ET puck drop. Below we analyze the Wild-Kings NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Wild at Kings: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:50 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wild -135 (bet $135 to win $100) | Kings +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wild -1.5 (+200) | Kings +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Wild at Kings: Projected starting goalies

Kaapo Kahkonen (3-3-0, .903 SV%, 2.86 GAA) at Calvin Petersen (2-4-1, .926 SV%, 2.49 GAA)

Kahkonen is the projected starter with Cam Talbot still on the COVID-19 reserve list. Even if Talbot were well, Kahkonen might have been tabbed to face L.A. He is 1-1-0 with a 2.56 GAA and .911 SV% in two starts against the Kings this season. That includes a Jan. 28 win when he allowed 3 goals in a 5-3 Wild win. Kahkonen allowed 5 goals on 33 shots last time out against the Colorado Avalanche, but while the line looks bad, he was hung out to dry on several occasions and lost two key defensemen to injury.

While Jonathan Quick is still considered the starter, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Petersen tabbed for this start. He won last time out against the San Jose Sharks with 29 saves in a 3-2 win. Quick has been on the losing end against the Wild on three occasions this season. Petersen stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced in a Jan. 26 win over the Wild.

Wild at Kings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Kings 4, Wild 3

Money line (ML)

The KINGS (+115) are worth a look as short underdogs at home as long as Petersen is the starting backstop. Even if Quick starts, L.A. is attractive with Minnesota coming back from a two-week layoff due to COVID-19 within the locker room.

Los Angeles was on the short end in three of the four previous meetings this season, but the first two games could have gone either way after going to overtime.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Kings +1.5 (-250) are just too expensive, as there is no reason to risk two and a half times your potential return on a shaky team like L.A.

Yes, they are home, and yes, Minnesota could be a little rusty after a two-week hiatus. And yes, the Kings would have covered both puck lines in the first two games against the Wild despite losing in OT; however, there is just too much risk, and not enough reward. Just take Los Angeles on the money line instead.

PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-105) is a good play here, as the Over cashed in three of the first four meetings this season.

The teams combined for 7 goals in each of the first two meetings at Staples Center Jan. 14 and 16, and they totaled 8 goals in the Jan. 28 meeting in St. Paul.

Minnesota Wild at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Minnesota Wild at Colorado Avalanche NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Minnesota Wild (6-4-0) play the first of a two-game road set against the Colorado Avalanche (6-3-1) at Ball Arena Tuesday for an 8:30 p.m. ET puck drop. Below, we analyze the Wild-Avalanche NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Wild at Avalanche: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wild +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Avalanche -185 (bet $185 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wild +1.5 (-185) | Avalanche -1.5 (+150)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Wild at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Cam Talbot (3-1-0, 2.49 GAA, .916 SV%) at Philipp Grubauer (6-2-0, 1.75 GAA, .930 SV%, 2 SO)

Talbot returned from a lower-body injury Sunday and he backstopped the Wild to a 4-3 home win over the Avs, stopping 22 of the 25 shots he faced. He has allowed three or fewer goals in all four of his starts to date.

Grubauer was rested in Sunday’s game, as it would have been the second end of a back-to-back. He allowed one goal on 20 shots in a 5-1 blowout win in Minnesota Saturday. He has coughed up a total of 10 goals over his past seven starts since allowing four goals in his opening appearance against the St. Louis Blues.

Wild at Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Wild 2

Money line (ML)

The Avalanche (-185) are heavy favorites to top the Wild, and they’re a good bet behind Grubauer, who has been white-hot lately. This is just slightly over my personal money line limit of -180, but it isn’t a terrible play if you want to roll the dice with a small-unit wager.

I’ll officially PASS, but if you were to include this in a parlay, it’s not the end of the world.

Against the spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+150) are an attractive play in this one. Yes, they lost in overtime in St. Paul Sunday, but they had backup Hunter Miska between the pipes. They’re skating on home ice with Grubauer back in the crease, and that’s a recipe for a win by at least 2 goals.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6 (+100) is worth a small-unit play. Grubauer has been hard on the opposition, so that’s a bit of a concern.

You need Minnesota to sneak at least 2 by him while Colorado does the heavy lifting. Still, at even-money, the Over is a decent value.

Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Colorado Avalanche (6-3-0) and Minnesota Wild (5-4-0) play the second half of their back-to-back Sunday at Xcel Energy Center. The puck drop is set for 8 p.m. ET following Colorado’s 5-1 win Saturday. Below, we analyze the Avalanche-Wild NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Avalanche at Wild: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Avalanche -155 (bet $155 to win $100) | Wild +130 (bet $100 to win $130)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Avalanche -1.5 (+170) | Wild +1.5 (-200)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Avalanche at Wild: Projected starting goalies

Hunter Miska (0-1-0, .885 SV%, 3.10 GAA) vs. Cam Talbot (2-1-0, .925 SV%, 2.34 GAA)

Miska, 25, will make his second career NHL start after stopping 23 of 26 shots in a road loss against the Los Angeles Kings Jan. 21. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Miska, who’s from North Branch, Minnesota.

Talbot stopped 11 of 12 shots in a 4-1 Wild win over the San Jose Sharks in his last appearance. He left after the first period due to a lower-body injury. The veteran is 4-2-0 against the Avs for his career but with an unimpressive .884 save percentage and 3.31 goals against average.

Avalanche at Wild: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wild 4, Avalanche 3

Money line (ML)

Take the WILD (+130) for an upset on home ice after they took a 5-1 loss Saturday. The Avalanche are pivoting to their inexperienced third-string goalie and the injury absence of D Devon Toews (foot) will now have a greater impact than it did for veteran Philipp Grubauer.

The Avs outshot the Wild 33-20 Saturday and went 2-for-7 on the power play while Minnesota failed to score on either of just two chances with the man advantage.

Minnesota takes the sixth-most minutes in penalties per game at 11.3 but Colorado also averages 8.7 penalty minutes per game. A better-disciplined effort from Wild head coach Dean Evason’s bunch will help keep the Avs offense in check.

The Wild are second-to-last in the NHL with a power-play percentage of just 5.56, but there’s some natural progression coming for that unit. Expect it to come against the inexperienced Miska.

Against the spread (ATS)

Grab some insurance with WILD +1.5 (-200) following Saturday’s shellacking. Colorado and Minnesota rank third and eighth, respectively, in scoring chances for at 5-on-5. Some better goaltending for the Wild and a few more chances against Miska will help flip the script from Saturday.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 6 (+100) after Saturday’s goal total of 6 topped a line of 5.5. Both teams are at the top of the league in generating scoring chances at full strength and the Wild should see a boost in conversion against Miska.

Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Colorado Avalanche (5-3-0) travel to meet the Minnesota Wild (5-3-0) at Xcel Energy Center Saturday for an 8 p.m. ET puck drop. Below, we analyze the Avalanche-Wild NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Avalanche at Wild: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:36 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Avalanche -165 (bet $165 to win $100) | Wild +140 (bet $100 to win $140)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Avalanche -1.5 (+165) | Wild +1.5 (-200)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Avalanche at Wild: Projected starting goalies

Philipp Grubauer (5-2-0, 1.86 GAA, .928 SV%, 2 SO) at Kaapo Kahkonen (3-2-0, 2.40 GAA, .917 SV%)

Grubauer’s splits are pretty good at home or on the road, although both of his shutouts have come at Ball Arena. He is still a solid 2-1-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .922 SV% in his three assignments away from home. It was a mixed bag last season against the Wild but mostly good as he was 1-1-0 with a 2.56 GAA and .919 SV% in two starts.

The status for regular No. 1 backstop Cam Talbot (lower body) is still not known so Kahkonen is projected to start yet again Saturday. Four of Kahkonen’s five appearances have come on home ice, going 2-2-0 with a 2.51 GAA and .917 SV%. This will be his first-career appearance against the high-octane Avs.

Avalanche at Wild: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wild 3, Avalanche 2

Money line (ML)

The WILD (+140) are a sharp play on home ice as short underdogs as the Avalanche have managed to come away with wins in just five of their past 17 trips to the Twin Cities. Yes, Minnesota has won just once in their past five on home ice, but trust the head-to-head trends in this battle between teams which know each other really well.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Wild +1.5 (-200) aren’t worth the risk at this price point. If you’re going to back the home side, just roll with the Wild on the money line. Risking over two times your potential return is a recipe for disaster over the long term. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-105) is the way to go. The Avalanche are averaging just 2.25 goals per game in four road outings, hitting the Under in three of those games. The Wild had a rare five-goal outburst against the Los Angeles Kings last time out, but the Under is still 4-2 across their past six.
