10 best Minecraft shaders

Shaders take Minecraft’s graphics to a whole new level. We’ve collected the best shaders to make your Minecraft world look beautiful.

A huge part of Minecraft’s charm is its low fidelity graphics. Not only does it allow this open-world sandbox game to run on low-end hardware, but it brings a charm that was unique when the game first launched, and even now it still does the voxel style the best. That said, there is something that can make looking at grand creations more enjoyable, and that’s realistic lighting.

The Minecraft RTX pack showed the world just how mind-blowing the game can look with the best graphical technology, but not everyone has the hardware to support it. Minecraft is one of the best games to play on PC, but if yours isn’t up to the task, don’t despair, you can use shaders to make Minecraft look pretty. These overhaul the game’s lighting engine, but in a far less resource-intensive way than RTX. What’s more, the creators of shader packs take different approaches, and all light the world in uniquely beautiful ways.

Jason Momoa will reportedly star in the Minecraft movie

The Dune and Aquaman star is building something big with Warner Bros.

A Minecraft movie starring Jason Momoa is currently in the works at Warner Bros.

On Thursday, THR reported that Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess will direct a big-screen adaptation of Minecraft. Jason Momoa of Dune and Aquaman fame will star in the film. As of right now, there are no other details about the film, so you’ll have to imagine Momoa smashing 8-bit blocks with a tiny pixelated pickaxe without any additional context.

According to THR’s report, Warner Bros. has been working on a Minecraft film for years, though the project has had a troubled development. Free Guy director Shawn Levy was attached to the movie at one point, though he could never get the studio to agree on a script. It’s understandable, though. Nobody knows what to do in sandbox games like Minecraft until thoroughly consulting wikis, right? It only makes sense a faithful movie would struggle with its direction too.

With the success of Uncharted and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it’s no shocker that someone would want to turn the highest-selling video game ever into a movie. Whether Warner Bros. can turn Minecraft into a successful film is another matter entirely, as many big video games have had terrible movie adaptations.

Best Minecraft servers – the finest block parties around

If you always thought battle royale games lacked a certain blockiness, may we direct your eyes below.

Let’s be truthful about this: the best Minecraft servers are the ones you and your friends created yourselves, worked on for years, built villages and Spongebob fan art in, and whose blocks tell the stories of a thousand projects.

But after a while, even these magnificent collective achievements can get slightly played out. At least for a while. When that happens, there are always servers like the ones below.

They’re more like clubs than single shared worlds, offering a variety of modes and challenges for solo play or groups. If you always thought battle royale games lacked a certain blockiness, may we direct your eyes below.

[mm-video type=video id=01ftra404995jdwpkvsy playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01ftra404995jdwpkvsy/01ftra404995jdwpkvsy-d1cf942f3b2a0fb2c2eea7b1bb2f9442.jpg]

Keep in mind that not all these servers run on both Bedrock and Java editions of the game. There’s a lot of custom code and content involved in molding the game in such different directions, and for some servers, it just hasn’t been possible – or worth the while of the creators – to translate it all to Bedrock Edition.

The 15 best PC games of all time

Got your ticket there for the best PC games of all time? Ah, you do. Welcome – come inside.

Got your ticket there for the best PC games of all time? Ah, you do. Welcome – come inside. You can hang your jacket on one of those vectors jutting out from Elite over there, and we do ask that you leave all electronic devices inside this improbably large PC game box from 1997. Look out for all the mouse balls and serial cables underfoot. We’ve tried clearing them out, but they grow back at an alarming rate.

As custodians of this PC gaming corps d’elite, we must lay a few ground rules before allowing you into the great hall. The first pertains to timeliness: PC gaming history spans several decades and many of its most revered titles released during the 1990s, whose incredible tech breakthrough saw leaps forward in both fidelity and ideation. But let’s be real: even if you did decide to go and play the original 1993 version Syndicate after seeing it on this list, which you wouldn’t, getting it to run properly on modern hardware would be quite an undertaking. Therefore, older games must be both playable and still genuinely enjoyable to make the cut, not simply ‘important’.

Secondly: franchises. The industry’s tendency to iterate on its most popular names and ideas means good games are often built on the foundations of great ones – so even though the real innovation might have happened nine years ago, we’re still inclined to put the best overall experience on a pedestal. Often, that means the most recent.

With our methodology explained, we just need you to sign this waiver that absolves us from responsibility for any injuries incurred by falling CD-ROMs and any attempt from John Romero to make you his – well, you know, and we can now let you into the great hall.

Meet the artist who built the world’s biggest Winter Wonderland in Minecraft

Ushio Tokura is renowned for his amazing Minecraft worlds, and the Winter Wonderland he built in collaboration with Nvidia is no different.

Ushio Tokura, who goes by the name Dr Bond online, is renowned for making magnificent works of art. His latest project, however, isn’t a surrealist aquatic mindscape or a stunning love letter to Japanese Yokai. Instead, Tokura has partnered with Nvidia to build the world’s largest Winter Wonderland for charity – all in Minecraft.

Tokura has been experimenting with Minecraft builds for almost ten years, meaning he’s been involved in the community since around the time it originally launched in earnest. He’s been the subject of widespread attention for his forum-famous sculptures, work with the wildly ambitious Cyclone Designs team, and showcase pieces for major expos like Tokyo Game Show. His latest project is something totally new though, which is likely why he had no hesitation in jumping at the opportunity to work on it.

“With a team of three people over a span of two weeks, collectively the project took over 500 hours to complete,” Tokura tells FTW. “The process is best explained like layers in a cake – the foundations or the sponge base being the builds from which all other things are then built on top of, with the mechanics, models, and storyline creating meaning and direction, connecting everything together as the supportive cake filling.

“The RTX, which adds godrays and emissive light properties to the map, seems like just a cherry on top, but is actually a very necessary component to the whole experience with its enhancement to atmosphere and immersion. It was a big undertaking within the time constraints, however I am extremely happy with how it turned out.”

An ice lake in the Winder Wonderland Minecraft world built by Ushio Tokura

Obviously 500 hours is an enormous amount of time – in terms of a standard eight-hour shift, it’s equivalent to 62.5 work days or 12 and a half business weeks. The amount of effort that goes into Minecraft builds of this scale is extraordinary, especially when you consider that the people working on them are abnormally expeditious thanks to their knowledge of the game.

What’s more, this particular build comprises over 30 million individual blocks spanning approximately 38 acres, making it four times the size of the world’s largest Christmas market in Austria. While the real deal will always be special in its own right, Tokura believes that Minecraft is perfect for housing alternative virtual worlds in this way.

“One of the best things Minecraft does is its ability to enhance the user’s vision as a tool to create experiences,” Tokura says. “From building to modding, it is a great sandbox; it allows the creator to completely trust its system of design and focus on the ideas that really matter such as the story you want to tell. With an amazing community behind it, Minecraft has created its own self-sustaining ecosystem of creators who help each other with tools and resources that enable so much more content through collaboration than just a couple people or a group could achieve.”

Dr Bond and Nvidia have teamed up to build the world's biggest Winder Wonderland in Minecraft

These thoughts come from a place of personal experience given that Tokura has previously worked on various Minecraft projects as part of the aforementioned and widely lauded Cyclone Designs initiative. As stated above, even the Winter Wonderland world was made as part of a team of three, with Tokura logging approximately 300 of the total 500 hours needed to create it.

This collaboration, while key to the Winter Wonderland’s construction, is also key to its mission. Designed as a means of raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity to help bring Christmas to kids who can’t visit Santa’s Grotto or festive markets this year, the Minecraft Winter Wonderland is deeply imbued with sentiments of kindness and community.

[mm-video type=video id=01fny0xyn0f9j5fer2ry playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fny0xyn0f9j5fer2ry/01fny0xyn0f9j5fer2ry-460ad43025526197fb4b1d0d985304cc.jpg]

“I feel the Holiday spirit brings such a special warmth, and I wanted that to be conveyed directly to the player when playing this map,” Tokura says. “I focused on bringing out some of the best parts of Christmas – which for me is the food – so one of the player’s tasks of course had to revolve around preparing a large meal for Santa’s guests. Before playing, I would tell the players to get yourself some food, a nice mug of a preferred drink and really enjoy the map as if it were just another Christmas activity, because it will draw you in like one.”

Tokura isn’t exaggerating here. Among other things, the Winter Wonderland includes roller coasters, ice skating rinks on frozen lakes, a Christmas village, a penguin postal service, and even a petting zoo. There are also various quests you can embark on aside from cooking Santa his turkey and ham, meaning this is a world that has been designed with real care and attention to detail.

Dr Bond and Nvidia have teamed up to build the world's biggest Winder Wonderland in Minecraft

On top of all the festivities, you’ll also be able to visit an in-game version of the Great Ormond Street Hospital where you can donate to the GOSH Charity. The aim of this whole initiative is to raise money for children who are seriously ill and can’t make it home for the holidays – this includes funding state-of-the-art medical technology and providing patient and family support services, among other things – while also enabling them to participate in Christmas activities virtually via Minecraft.

“A huge part of this project was to emphasize the aspect of Christmas kindness of giving through charity,” Tokura says. “Teaming up with GOSH Children’s Charity, this map was created with the purpose to bring Christmas to the children so that wherever they are in the world they can still experience meeting Santa or going out shopping in the Christmas markets. I would love to add and expand onto this idea for other interactive experiences in the future.

Minecraft for me is special because it is so inclusive of everything it touches. Whether it is the age of a person, the community they come from, their talents or skills – all of these combined really make the community in Minecraft special. I feel that this reflects so closely with the Holiday spirit and Christmas, and this positive spirit of giving and sharing very much reminds me of all of the kindness and joy that Minecraft has brought onto us.

“This has been such a great experience for myself and the team, and there were many funny moments shared fueled by sleepless nights. While making this project, I was often teleported back in time and I felt as though I had stepped into the shoes of my younger self. I added things to this project I believe my younger self would have wanted to see, and it made me realize that so much of my creativity comes from my early memories. To anyone playing this map, I hope this also inspires the creative spirit inside you like it did for me.”

You can install the Nvidia Winter Wonderland world for Minecraft here and donate to the GOSH Charity here.

Minecraft is the first game to surpass 1 trillion views on YouTube

Minecraft has officially become the first game in history to amass over one trillion views on YouTube.

Minecraft bears one of the most ubiquitous names in the world right now, being one of precious few things that can be immediately recognized by an eight- and 80-year-old alike. It’s no wonder, then, that it has become the first game in history to surpass one trillion views on YouTube.

YouTube recently launched a website in celebration of this achievement, hosting all kinds of different stats about Minecraft’s journey over the last 12 years. One of the first things you can do when you load the page is input the number of Minecraft videos you’ve watched in order to estimate roughly how much you contributed to that behemoth one trillion figure. We put in 50 as a random point of reference. Our contribution? 0.00000000005%. Really puts things into perspective, eh?

The site also notes that if every single view was equal to one second, one trillion views would amount to a whopping 30,000 years. Given that Minecraft has been around for 12 years, that means Minecraft YouTubers have collectively put out an average of 2,500 years of content per year, by that metric. For context, that’s a larger period of time than the entire Common Era – it’s pretty wild.

[mm-video type=video id=01fny0xyn0f9j5fer2ry playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fny0xyn0f9j5fer2ry/01fny0xyn0f9j5fer2ry-460ad43025526197fb4b1d0d985304cc.jpg]

There’s also a fascinating infographic examining the finer details of Minecraft’s growth, which highlights many of the major players who contributed to it. Anyone who has been following Minecraft since its early days will likely recognize many of the people listed here, from old-school Minecraft players like SeaNanners, of Machinima fame, to beloved, longstanding creators like Aphmau, who amassed 3.17 billion views in 2021 alone.

You can also adjust the filter to search for individual videos that popped off. We’re not sure about you, but we forgot just how many parodies of music videos the Minecraft community uploaded during those early years. These days, people are way more into speedruns.

Interestingly enough, Minecraft is only getting bigger. While most trends plateau at some point – particularly in tech and gaming – the data provided by YouTube indicates that Minecraft is a giant that just keeps growing.

“As our data shows, it took around eight years for this community to generate 500 billion views, but only another two or so to double that and hit one trillion,” the site reads. “What future heights they hit we can only guess at, but as with this milestone, it will be fun to watch it happen.”

If this achievement makes you want to reinstall Minecraft, be sure to check out our guides for the best mods in Minecraft and the best seeds in Minecraft to help you get started.

The best mods for Minecraft

There are tons of great Minecraft mods out there, but these ten are our personal favorites.

Despite being one of the most endlessly replayable games around, there will inevitably come a time where even the most faithful Steves and Stevies will start experimenting with mods for Minecraft. From spacebound odysseys to planets made of cheese to subsurface expeditions using Leonardo da Vinci’s proto-submarine, modded Minecraft servers open up a whole new world of possibilities to anyone willing to try them.

With so many options on offer, browsing through dozens of Minecraft modpacks and server mods can quickly become daunting – hell, even reading that sentence feels a bit sluggish. Because of how saturated the market is right now, we’ve taken the liberty of collecting our ten favourite Minecraft mods – download them at the links below.

How to download Minecraft mods

Steve, the protagonist of Minecraft

Before we get into the nitty gritty of modded Minecraft, you obviously need to know how to actually, you know, download mods. Fortunately, Minecraft is and always has been highly compatible with mods, so it’s pretty easy to tailor your server to your own interests.

The first thing you need to do when modding a Minecraft server is download either Minecraft Forge or Fabric, both of which serve as mod loaders. Once you’ve done this, you can download individual mods from a reliable source like CurseForge, which is the site we’ll be linking to throughout this guide. The only problem with CurseForge is that it has 91,500 Minecraft mods – that’s why we’re compiling a list of our favourite ten here.

After you’ve downloaded the mods you want, all you need to do is ensure your version of Minecraft is the same one referenced in the mod description. If so, simply drag the downloaded mod file into the ‘mods’ section of your main Minecraft folder. The next time you boot the game up and specify the mod loader you want to use, all compatible mods in this folder should automatically be applied to whatever world you decide to create.

The best mods for Minecraft

A castle in Minecraft

As a short disclaimer, the mods we’ve chosen here are mostly large, world-altering projects that completely reinvent what Minecraft is. Somewhat controversially, we’ve omitted certain beloved mods like Optifine and Just Enough Items on account of the fact that a) they’re more about performance and quality-of-life enhancements, and b) loads of modern mods automatically support them anyway. You can just assume that those two, HWYLA, and Tinker’s Construct should always be installed.

Instead, we’re going to focus on the best standalone mods to drastically shake up your game, all of which can be easily downloaded and applied following the instructions on each mod’s landing page. Here are the ten best Minecraft mods to download now.

Ice and Fire: Dragons

Two dragons modded into Minecraft

As a big fan of dragons and Direwolves, it should come as no surprise that the first entry on the list is a personal favourite. Boasting a rather obvious namesake, Ice and Fire: Dragons is a mod that not only allows you to fight flying, fire-bellied serpents, but actually befriend them.

Over the last four years, this mod has seen some impressive growth. As well as the two titular dragons, a Lightning variant has also been added, as well as a variety of other monsters including hydras and hippogryphs; cyclopes and cockatrices; and ghosts and gorgons. On top of that, this is one of those aforementioned mods that already supports a bunch of other popular ones like JEI, Thaumcraft, and Tinker’s Construct.

JurassiCraft 2

Dinosaurs modded into Minecraft

Whether you’re an aspiring paleontologist or someone who just likes Ian Malcolm a bit too much, there’s a pretty good chance you’re at least somewhat interested in adding massive dinosaurs to your Minecraft server. If so, JurassiCraft 2 is the mod for you.

From synthesising fossil DNA to roaming biomes ruled by a fearsome T-Rex, JurassiCraft 2 is true to its name in terms of its Jurassic ambitions. While a lot of people prefer the more academic Fossils and Archaeology Revival, you can now access it at the same time as JurassiCraft in the latest version of the latter and get the best of both worlds. Just remember these are live dinosaurs you’re dealing with – as a wise man once said, if Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don’t eat the tourists.

Botania

The Botania mod in Minecraft

Another personal favourite, Botania can enchant even the most mundane Minecraft server simply by introducing the Lexica Botania, a magical book dedicated to the natural arcane.

Basically, Botania is all about using flowers to harness and direct magic – flower power, if you will. You gain Mana from certain types of Mystical Flowers and can use it to activate all kinds of fascinating features packed with the mod. There’s also a pretty tough endgame boss called the Gaia Guardian, so you’ll need to master magical botany if you want to excel in this brilliantly inspired version of Minecraft.

The Lost Cities

A deserted city modded into Minecraft

If you were a fan of this year’s The Forgotten City – which also started life as a mod, initially being developed using Skyrim’s proprietary creation kit – then The Lost Cities is the Minecraft mod for you. As opposed to traditional biomes like the desert, jungle, and weird mushroom forest Minecraft inexplicably introduced a few years ago, this mod revolves around a dilapidated metropolis filled with all kinds of unique obstacles to overcome.

What’s more, this mod is highly… well, moddable. If you want to mess around with the configuration for it, head on over to The Lost Cities’ official wiki for inspiration. It’s also compatible with some extremely popular mods like Biomes O’ Plenty and WildNature, and you can ramp up the difficulty with its official companion mod, Lost Souls

Caterpillar

A drill to make mining easier in Minecraft

Ok, so unlike the mods mentioned so far, all of which completely overhaul how Minecraft works on a fundamental level, Caterpillar is the kind of quality-of-life mod we said we’d avoid mentioning at the start. The thing is, Caterpillar is just too good to leave out – having it installed improves whatever revamp mod you’re using tenfold.

Caterpillar essentially revitalises Minecraft’s most basic concept: mining. Instead of having to manually break blocks one by one, Caterpillar allows you to construct a 3×3 drill capable of tearing through mountains and mineshafts like a hot knife to butter. Admittedly, it hasn’t been updated in a few years and isn’t optimised for the newest versions of Minecraft, but hey – maybe if we see an increase in popularity the modder will come back and bring it up to speed, eh?

GalactiCraft

A screenshot of a rocket ship in Minecraft's GalactiCraft space mod

Starfield what? For the last three years, enterprising Minecraft players have been exploring the cosmos on high with little more than makeshift rocket ships and munchies for mystery. Widely regarded as one of the most ambitious Minecraft mods available to download, GalactiCraft is a must-play for any miner with even the vaguest interest in space.

There are, admittedly, quite a few copycats out there – probably because of how popular the original is – as well as some pay-to-play modpacks, so we’ve linked to the official GalactiCraft homepage to avoid any unnecessary costs being incurred by grifters. Our suggestion is to just look it up and see how good it is for yourself – one of its official expansions even adds a planet made of cheese.

Da Vinci’s Vessels

While it’s not quite as daring as space travel, there’s a lot to be said for soaring through the sky in a working model of da Vinic’s revered flying machine. Like Caterpillar, da Vinci’s Vessels – misspelled in the mod name – isn’t quite as sprawling as some of the other mods on this list, but it’s just as intriguing as several.

While the mod initially only allows you to build a new kind of boat, you can mess around with it in order to convert it into either a flying machine or submarine. In case you didn’t know, da Vinci attempted to invent both of these vessels before anyone else figured out how to make them work properly, so it’s nice to see good ol’ Leonardo getting some credit in a children’s game with one-foot zombies who run faster than Usain Bolt, which is absolutely the accolade he was hoping for.

Pixelmon Generations

Pokemon in Minecraft

It’s Minecraft but Pokemon – need I say more? Download Pixelmon

Pam’s HarvestCraft

Pam's HarvestCraft combines Minecraft with elements of Harvest Moon

It’s Minecraft but Harvest Moon – need I say more? Download Pam’s HarvestCraft.

The Twilight Forest

Minecraft's beloved Twilight Forest

Like Ice and Fire: Dragons and Botania, this is another one of the mods at the top of my own personal list of must-plays. Self-described as a ‘dimension exploration mod,’ The Twilight Forest puts a new spin on Minecraft’s conventional woodlands. Also, it’s constantly updated – as its team states on the CurseForge page, “we never stop.”

To access The Twilight Forest, you need to build a portal and throw a diamond into it – such is the price of interdimensional travel. Once you arrive in the alternate universe, you’ll be able to explore all kinds of inventive new dungeons. One thing to note here is that even the development team cites ConnectedTexturesMod as a necessary companion mod for this one, so it’s definitely worth installing that alongside it.

Minecraft seeds: the most amazing seeds for Minecraft worlds

Minecraft has thousands of different seeds to experiment with, but these ten are our absolute favorites.

Given that there are an infinite number of seeds in Minecraft, it’s only natural that people would rather consult a curated list instead of going through hundreds of random worlds before finding anything half decent. The same can be said of even the most dedicated seed finder – Minecraft is so ridiculously large that you could easily put together 1,000 very good seeds without ever specifying which ten are amazing.

To make sure you don’t spend dozens of hours trawling through mediocre seeds without finding anything that tickles your fancy, we’ve taken the liberty of compiling a select few that stand out from the rest. In our eyes, these legitimately are the best Minecraft seeds on offer right now – here are ten of our favourites.

How to use Minecraft seeds

A huge castle in Minecraft

Ok, so before you decide which of these ten seeds you want to try out first, it’s important to know what a Minecraft seed is and how to use one.

When you go to create a new world, you’ll be given the option to type in a custom seed via ‘more world options.’ After you decide which of the seeds below you want to load, look at the corresponding code and input those same numbers into the open field in your startup menu.

Once you confirm that this is the seed you want to use, you’ll spawn in the world in question and be free to explore at your own pace. If you don’t like it, you can easily just create a new world and use a different seed. In general, once you start experimenting with seeds you’ll never want to stop – it’s a good thing we’ve collected several for you to mess around with.

The 10 best Minecraft seeds

From Titanic-esque shipwrecks to the most optimal worlds for speedrunning to the Ender Dragon, there’s quite a bit of variety when it comes to Minecraft seeds. Here’s a brief breakdown of our favourite ten.

Mountain mansion

A mansion inside a mountain in Minecraft

This recently discovered seed is absolutely bizarre. While there are lots of seeds for easily accessible Woodland Mansions on the internet, most of them are pretty similar – you find one, loot all of its resources, and head off on your merry way.

That’s not the case with this monstrosity. Instead of being an overworld villa in a conventional forest or jungle, this Woodland Mansion literally spawns inside a mountain, creating its own weird and unique biome. It’s one of the strangest setups we’ve ever seen naturally occur in Minecraft, so it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a change of scenery. There are also two villages situated on top of the mountain to sweeten the deal a bit.

Seed: 1075740073935366365

Heart-shaped box

A heart-shaped valley in Minecraft

Ok, so this is another mansion seed, but we swear it’s the last one. Similarly to the seed above, this loads a world with a slightly more intriguing mansion than the ones you’re likely to encounter in a standard server.

Instead of just being yet another wooden house surrounded by trees and cattle, this mansion is located in a massive heart-shaped valley surrounded by badlands biomes. If Kurt Cobain were alive and into Minecraft, he’d probably call it a heart-shaped box – although that’s admittedly speculation on our part. There’s also a pillager outpost here, meaning this isn’t just a nice seed to look at – there’s plenty to do, too.

Seed: 110918009997

Best speedrun seed

Speedrunning Minecraft is harder than it looks

While a lot of people just want to build castles and causeways in Minecraft, there are some hardcore players out there who thrive off speedrunning. If you’re included in that demographic, you’ll be glad to know that there’s an optimal seed for speedrunners, although simply spawning in won’t be enough to guarantee you a good time.

Fortunately, preliminary instructions are included in the video linked above to provide you with some much needed guidance. You’ll need at least a rudimentary understanding of Minecraft speedrunning to put all of the individual pieces together, but hey, you probably wouldn’t care about this seed unless you were already invested in the community, right?

Seed: -3294725893620991126

Titanic

The closest thing to the Titanic you'll ever find in Minecraft

We already mentioned it above, but you can technically find the Titanic in Minecraft if you know the right seed. There’s no ragtime and Leo DiCaprio is conspicuously absent, but shipwreck? Check. Water? Check. Iceberg? Check. All the pieces of the puzzle are there.

Unlike some of the other seeds on this list, you’ll need to do a little bit of wandering around before you find the ship itself. Fortunately, the person who originally found the seed shared coordinates at the link above, which are X5462 Y70 Z3613. Once you boot up the world and make your way towards that exact location, you’ll be able to live out your very own virtual Titanic-style adventure, which doesn’t actually sound any fun, but hey – maybe you’ll win 11 Oscars for it.

Seed: 328560641037327634

Minecraft title screen

Minecraft's title screen can be visited using this seed

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to wander around the world depicted in Minecraft’s title screen? If so, you’re in luck – after almost ten years, you’re finally able to explore the one biome every Minecraft player in history has laid eyes on.

It’s pretty old news at this point, but a lot of people out there still don’t know that a group of players discovered the seed for the world in Minecraft’s title screen a while back. It’s not quite as weird as the mountain mansion, nor is it as immediately recognisable as the Titanic, but it’s definitely worth visiting at least once in your Minecraft career. If you manage to find or build something of interest here, you’ll probably go viral overnight. Not that you should want to…

Flying village

A flying village in Minecraft

The title says it all – who wouldn’t want to visit a flying village? There’s a reason people are so fond of Skyloft in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – Groose. Oh, and because it’s extremely cool to be part of a floating civilization situated a mile above sea level.

This flying village isn’t truly flying in that it’s technically connected to a mountain, but you can just smash the blocks between them and the village itself will remain suspended in the air. You might struggle getting back up if you decide to leave, although that’s one of the reasons we also decided to put together a guide to the best mods for Minecraft – with da Vinci’s flying machine, you’ll be back and forth from your flying village like there’s no tomorrow.

All biomes within 2,000 blocks of spawn

A Minecraft seed with every biome

With yet another self-explanatory title, this seed allows you to visit each and every biome in Minecraft without having to venture more than 2,000 steps from your point of origin. Obviously you’ll need to make good use of your map if you’re to do this effectively, but provided you keep track of where you are – we recommend building structures to denote the location of certain landmarks – the world is quite literally at your fingertips.

This seed used to be a bit of a bigger deal given that the extremely rare Jungle’s Edge biome is much more common in 1,18, although its spawn is still within walking distance of everything you could possibly want. Basically, it’s still pretty great.

Hidden desert village

Minecraft seed for a secret desert village

While most of the entries on this list are grandiose in one way or another, this seed is just downright gorgeous. A snowy sierra surrounds a dense forest on all sides. From the outside, it looks as if nothing could possibly be in the middle. If you’re willing to delve a little deeper though, you’ll come across a secret desert village hidden away from the rest of the world.

This one is just cool to hang out in, although if you’ve got some time on your hands there are definitely some extremely cool ways you could play around with the mountain/forest/desert cascade. Unfortunately, this one is only available for Java players, meaning anyone running Bedrock is out of luck. Sorry!

Sky village

Yes, we know, we already included a flying village on this list – but look at this sky village! There’s a difference, you see, because the floating structure we spoke about above is relatively low-hanging. On the contrary, this sky civilization is neatly nestled at the top of a massive spike protruding from the ground and piercing the sky. How someone even managed to realize the village was up here is beyond us, although we’re glad their enterprising sense of adventure led them to it.

One of the most interesting things about this village is that it can’t be raided. While pillagers still spawn outside it, they’re so far below that their raids end instantly, meaning this village is essentially impenetrable. It’s nice to know that at least some of Minecraft’s villagers are safe.

Mega taiga mountain range

A gorgeous view of one of the best seeds in Minecraft

You know, there’s nothing particularly special or unique about this last entry in our list. For some reason, it just stands out as one of the most stunning Minecraft seeds ever

You start off in a mountainous region of the world’s mega taiga biome. From there, you can access a village, a desert, or a snowy area, although the mountain itself is the real star of this show. Obviously it helps that the screenshots at the link above are all rendered with RTX enabled, although we’ve seen plenty of different Minecraft servers with the same settings – this one is just especially nice to look at. If you’re an appreciator of natural beauty and love to hike through virtual worlds packed with gorgeous vistas, this last seed is one you’ll definitely want to take for a spin.

Steve from Minecraft is the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character

Gamers react to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character reveal.

Nintendo fans have been waiting for a new character to be added to the massive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, and with a character reveal event set for Thursday, rumors and speculation over who the character might be ran wild in recent days. There were reports that we could see a character from Blizzard’s Overwatch. Some thought that Crash Bandicoot might finally land in Smash Bros, while Xbox fans hoped it could be Master Chief.

Instead, Smash Bros. fans are getting…. a Minecraft collaboration. Steve from Minecraft is the new Smash Bros. character, and can be swapped out for Alex, Enderman or a Zombie. Steve is available as a part of Smash Bros.’ Fighter Pass Vol. 2 DLC.

Another presentation starring Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai will air on October 3rd and feature more in-depth gameplay with the new character.

Coincidentally, Twitter went down at the exact moment the presentation started, leading many to joke that Steve broke the internet.
