Former Alabama TE Miller Forristall signed to Los Angeles Rams practice squad

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Rams signed former Alabama tight end Miller Forristall to their practice squad.

The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Alabama tight end Miller Forristall to their practice squad.

The Georgia native went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. Soon after, he was signed by the Tennessee Titans. Forristall served as a member of the Titans practice squad for several days before being waived.

Three weeks later, Forristall was signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad. There, he spent time on both the practice squad and active roster. Over the course of the next two seasons, Forristall played in six games with the Browns.

Following the 2022 season, Forristall signed a reserve/future contract with the New Orleans Saints. Several months later, Forristall was waived by the Saints.

Consequently, he signed with the Browns practice squad yet again. He spent three weeks on the practice squad before being waived.

Now, he will have the opportunity to be a member of a new organization and a new practice squad. Over time, he will have the opportunity to be elevated to the Rams active roster. For now, Forristall will continue to make a name for himself and earn his stripes on the Rams practice squad.

Rams sign TE Miller Forristall to practice squad

The Rams added some tight end depth with Hunter Long out for the season

Tyler Higbee is banged up and still recovering from a neck injury, and his backup, Hunter Long suffered a season-ending knee injury in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Rams still have Davis Allen and Brycen Hopkins at tight end, but they added some depth to the position on Wednesday.

The team announced Miller Forristall has been signed to the practice squad. Forristall is a 25-year-old tight end who came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2021. He’s spent time with the Titans, Browns and Saints in the last three seasons, appearing in six total games from 2021-2022, all with the Browns.

Most of his playing time has come on special teams, with only 27 of his 88 career snaps coming on offense. He played his college football at Alabama.

Cleveland Browns waive former Alabama TE Miller Forristall

Former Alabama tight end Miller Forristall was waived by the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon. Forristall was one of several players waived by the Browns front office.

The Cleveland Browns parted ways with several players on Sunday afternoon, one of which was former Alabama tight end Miller Forristall.

In the NFL, teams must trim their roster from 90 to 53 by August 29 at 4 p.m. ET.

This is not the first time that the Browns have waived Forristall. In 2021, he was waived and re-signed to the practice squad four days later. In 2022, Forristall was waived and re-signed to the practice squad.

Following a two-year stint with the Browns, Forristall signed a reserve/future contract with the New Orleans Saints in January 2023. After six months with the team, he was waived.

Soon after, the Browns brought Forristall back for a second stint. After less than a month, Forristall has hit the waiver wire again.

Meaning, other NFL teams will have the opportunity to claim Forristall. If no team claims Forristall, he will become an unrestricted free agent.

After performing well during the preseason, the likelihood of a team signing Forristall to their practice squad is relatively strong. Forristall recorded eight catches for 89 receiving yards during the preseason.

Browns to release Miller Forristall; familiarity makes him a practice squad candidate

Look for the tight end to return to the practice squad once again.

Tight end Miller Forristall took a slight break from the Cleveland Browns, signing with the New Orleans Saints in free agency. However, after being released by the Saints shortly after, he returned to Cleveland. This makes Forristall a practice squad candidate as he is set to hit waivers again as the Browns release him (according to The OBR’s Brad Stainbrook). This is the second cut of the day as the team has also moved on from cornerback Caleb Biggers.

It has busy day in Berea already as the Browns have now cut two and also made a trade for a new running back in Pierre Strong Jr. There will be plenty more to follow as the team cuts their roster down to 53.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns on offense against the Commanders

Who showed up the most on Friday night?

Though the first-team offense of the Cleveland Browns didn’t score on their lone drive of the game they did march right down the field before stalling inside the five-yard line. Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson looked comfortable and confident running the offense something he did not do in the final six games last year.

Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson continued his impressive preseason and Kellen Mond have some nice plays late in the game. Elijah Moore showed his versatility by lining up in the backfield and producing from that spot while camp standout Austin Watkins continued to shine. Let’s take a look at the 10 highest-graded offensive players from Friday’s game according to PFF.

Browns make slew of roster moves the day after Pro Football Hall of Fame Game

The roster saw a lot of churning the day after the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game

It did not take the Cleveland Browns long to make roster moves coming off of their 21-16 win over the New York Jets in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. We knew two players left that game injured, and they have both now been waived. We also now see the return of tight end Miller Forristall as a result.

Here are all of the various roster moves the Browns made on Friday.

Saints waive two veteran players to make room for new additions

The Saints waived two veteran players to make room for their new additions following pre-training camp tryouts:

We’ve talked plenty about the players the New Orleans Saints signed on Tuesday, all three of which became official on the daily NFL transactions wire: tight end Jimmy Graham is the headliner, but they’ve also brought in depth along the offensive line with guards Trai Turner and Max Garcia.

New Orleans had just one roster spot to spare after releasing backup center Billy Price last week, so some corresponding moves were necessary to fit these new additions underneath the 90-man roster limit. The Saints waived reserve tight end Miller Forristall and backup guard Koda Martin, each of whom arrived this offseason through signing futures contracts with New Orleans after their previous teams chose to not retain them on the practice squad.

Are they finished making moves? No. The Saints regularly cycle in new players throughout training camp to churn the bottom of the depth chart and look for quality backups, so keep an eye out for updates. Odds are any big acquisitions are behind them at this point in the offseason, but you never know.

Two Saints draft picks pass their physicals in time for training camp

Two New Orleans Saints draft picks passed their physicals in time for training camp, as did a couple of veteran teammates:

This is good news: four New Orleans Saints players passed their physicals to open training camp on the field with their teammates rather than on the sidelines with an injury designation, including a pair of draft picks. The only players remaining on the injury lists are sixth-round wide receiver A.T. Perry (non-football injury) and undrafted rookie cornerback Anthony Johnson (physically unable to perform).

Third-round running back Kendre Miller was held out of spring training sessions after a late-season meniscus injury in 2022, but he’ll be active at training camp from the first day. That’s also the case for fourth-round offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri, who injured his lower leg during organized team activities. He’s now recovered and medically cleared to return to practice.

Here are the four players who were activated on Monday:

Saints add veteran tight end Miller Forristall to training camp PUP list

The New Orleans Saints added veteran tight end Miller Forristall to the PUP list before training camp, meaning six players are sidelined by injuries to open camp:

There’s no need to panic — this happens every summer. But it’s still discouraging to see a New Orleans Saints team that’s been plagued by injuries in recent years opening training camp with at least six players sidelined.

On Thursday’s update to the daily NFL transactions wire, the Saints announced that veteran tight end Miller Forristall will open camp on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) due to an undisclosed injury. Like the other players on the list he can be activated at any time; last year, Michael Thomas started camp on the PUP list and was a full participant at practice the next day.

Forristall, a former starter at Alabama in college, was signed on a reserve/future contract earlier this year after starting his NFL career with stops on the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns. He’s known more for his blocking ability than his receiving skills, but the tight end-friendly Saints offense should offer him opportunities to compete for a roster spot once healthy.

Here are all of the players currently on the PUP list:

  • OL Nick Saldiveri (rookie from Old Dominion)
  • CB Anthony Johnson (rookie from Virginia)
  • TE Miller Forristall

And these three players on the non-football injury list, which works the same way in practicality but carries some minor contractual differences for bookkeeping purposes. Hopefully they all return to good health soon:

  • RB Kendre Miller (rookie from TCU)
  • WR A.T. Perry (rookie from Wake Forest)
  • WR Shaquan Davis (rookie from South Carolina State)
