Former Sixers forward Mike Scott to sign with SLUC team in France

Former Philadelphia 76ers forward Mike Scott will sign with SLUC Nancy in France to continue his basketball career.

The last time Mike Scott suited up for an NBA game, he was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2021 playoffs against the Atlanta Hawks. Scott averaged 4.2 points and shot 34.2% from deep in the 2020-21 season for the Sixers before his contract expired and it was not renewed.

Since then, the 9-year NBA veteran has not been able to find a spot in the league. After biding his time and waiting for another opportunity in the league, he will head overseas.

Scott signed a deal with SLUC Nancy which is a basketball club in Nancy, France. After 555 games of NBA experience, he looks to earn another chance at the NBA with some good production overseas.

Scott spent 2.5 seasons in Philadelphia after being acquired in the 2019 deadline deal from the Los Angeles Clippers. He was in the same deal as Tobias Harris and Boban Marjanovic; The Sixers were looking to add depth at the time.

Stay or go: predicting what Sixers will do with their 6 free agents

We predict what the Philadelphia 76ers will do with their six free agents in the offseason.

As the Philadelphia 76ers head into the offseason, there are not a lot of avenues they can go down to improve their team.

The Sixers do not have a lot of money to play with in free agency. They have just minimum contracts and the $5.9 million taxpayer mid-level exception.

Therefore, president Daryl Morey and the rest of the front office will have to get creative to upgrade the roster. They will have to focus on the draft and through trades.

The Sixers have six free agents they will have to make decisions on, and we are going to predict whether they stay or go when free agency begins on Aug. 2:

Sixers individual player grades after Game 3 road win over Wizards

Here are the individual player grades for the Philadelphia 76ers after their Game 3 win over the Washington Wizards.

The Philadelphia 76ers have looked dominant thus far in their first-round playoff series with the Washington Wizards. They took a 3-0 series lead against the eighth-seeded Wizards after going into D.C. and picking up a 132-103 Game 3 win on the road on Saturday.

They received another huge performance from Joel Embiid, who produced 36 points and eight rebounds, while getting a big game out of Tobias Harris, who had 20 points. Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and Danny Green also scored in double figures as they outplayed the starting unit from the Wizards in a big way.

As we have done after every playoff game, here are the individual player grades following the road win:

Final Philadelphia 76ers individual player grades for 2020-21 season

Now is the time for the individual player grades for the 2020-21 regular season for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 2020-21 regular season is in the books for the Philadelphia 76ers. They finished 49-23 and atop the Eastern Conference. It was a fun and entertaining season for the Sixers, who accomplished their goal of earning the No. 1 seed and having home-court advantage in the playoffs.

Led by their star duo, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and the savvy additions of Danny Green and Seth Curry, they have made huge steps forward. Coach Doc Rivers has been huge in their development. He has gotten the most out of the star duo as well as Tobias Harris on the offensive end.

As the team gets ready for the playoffs, we take a final look at the regular season and give out the individual player grades:

Doc Rivers explains Mike Scott’s shooting success lately for Sixers

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers explains Mke Scott’s recent shooting success.

Philadelphia 76ers veteran Mike Scott has had an up and down season shooting the basketball, but he is a veteran who has been in the league long enough to understand that these things come and go. Right now, he is on a hot streak.

After shooting 3-for-6 from deep in Saturday’s win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, Scott is shooting 42.9% from deep over his previous seven games. He is getting into a bit of a groove, and that is what coach Doc Rivers expects from him night in and night out.

“I think he’s getting his rhythm,” said Rivers. “I got on him in the first quarter, I think, because he had a wide-open shot that he passed off. I told him, that’s not what we want, be ready to shoot.”

Scott agreed with his coach that he should have shot the ball. He is not a guy who is normally short on confidence. He just has to let it fly, and he is doing that much more recently after a cold streak.

“He was right,” said Scott. “It was a two for one opportunity and I definitely should have shot it off the Dwight offensive rebound, but it feels good. He has a confidence in me I just gotta take advantage of the opportunity.”

Scott is a proven shooter, and he brings a lot of energy and confidence off the bench. There is a reason Rivers continues to turn to him to help the team. The Sixers are in need of his play every night, and he is an important part of their success and the bench unit.

“When Mike is set, with balance, he’s a terrific shooter, and I thought (Saturday) tonight was the first time in a while where he played with balance,” said Rivers. “We need him to do that more.”

Philadelphia will finish the road trip on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks looking to take three of the four games on the trip.

Sixers preparing for a mental challenge as schedule gets tougher

The Philadelphia 76ers prepare for another mental challenge as they get set for a tough stretch of games.

The NBA schedule for the 2020-21 season has been wild and hectic. There have been games coming at a rapid pace and there has not been much of a break for these guys this season.

The Philadelphia 76ers are experiencing this right now. They had a 13-day, six-game road trip wrap up on Thursday only to come home and play a back-to-back over the weekend. Now, they head back out on the road for a four-game trip.

It has been a tough schedule for Philadelphia in the second half of the season, but it is something they just have to deal with at the moment.

“When we saw the schedule, we fought it, to no avail,” laughed coach Doc Rivers. “I mean, it’s a tough stretch.”

The Sixers will face the Boston Celtics, New Orleans Pelicans, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Dallas Mavericks on the road trip starting Tuesday. The Pelicans and the Thunder games will be a back-to-back set and that will be another challenge on the trip.

}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

“It’s very tough,” said veteran Dwight Howard. “I would say we were homesick on the road. We really wanted to come back and be in Philly, we missed being at home, we missed being with our families, and we missed coming to the games. It’s very tough mentally going on the road, coming back home, and then leaving right back out.”

The back-to-back home games were tough to handle. They faced the Minnesota Timberwolves at 8 p.m. EDT on Saturday and then faced the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 p.m. EDT on Sunday so that was a challenge in itself.

“When I saw these games coming back, I honestly told our coaches, ‘I’m worried about both of these games’,” said Rivers after the loss to the Grizzlies. “It’s funny, I thought we started out great last night I thought we ran out of gas in the second half last night, and it was just a carryover today.”

The Sixers will just have to figure it out. They have a championship run in mind, so they just have to get ready for the Celtics on Tuesday after a tough loss on Sunday.

“Get ready for the next game,” said Mike Scott. “Watch film, put this behind you, rest your bodies, and get ready. That’s it.”

Doc Rivers, Sixers blame fatigue in blowout home loss to Grizzlies

The Philadelphia 76ers blame fatigue as a big factor in their loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Philadelphia 76ers have played a wild schedule coming out of the All-Star break. They recently just finished up a 13-day and 6-game road trip which included four games out West and they then returned home just for a back-to-back against two tough teams.

That is a lot of games to be played in a short amount of time. On top of that, they are doing this all while Joel Embiid is dealing with a bone bruise in his left knee.

They were able to knock off the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday, but the number of games caught up to them on Sunday as they looked tired in a 116-100 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. They got off to a solid start on Sunday, but they just weren’t able to sustain it.

“We’re human, and we played a lot of games in this stretch on the road as long as we were and you come back on the back-to-back,” said coach Doc Rivers. “With the 8:00 game on one night and earlier on the next, 7:00 game, we didn’t stand much of a chance. We played a team that had the night off the night before, with great energy, they played hard so give them credit, and you could tell that they knew that. Not a lot we can do about it.”

(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/d8b9c085-4226-44f1-8495-36ad4e2aa62d”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

Considering how it was a lot of factors being thrown into it, this was a loss that was not too surprising.

“I wasn’t too surprised,” said veteran Dwight Howard. “You could tell tonight, as the game kind of moved on, a lot of us was just a little winded. We were a step slow to a lot of plays rebounds, loose balls, steals, even getting blown by something that we haven’t had this season.”

Howard had nine points and 12 rebounds and Mike Scott had nine points as the two of them did their best to fill in for Embiid, but they are not the MVP candidate. On top of that, the rest of the team had tired legs. It was a recipe for a tough loss.

“That’s how it’s been going this year,” said Scott. “A lot of games in less days. Everyone has to go through it. We’ll be alright.”

The Sixers now have to move on to the next one as they prepare for the Boston Celtics on Tuesday to begin the road trip.

“I don’t want to make any excuses, but I could tell that we were all tired,” Howard added. “Even me being a young 35, I was a little winded tonight. I just got to make sure we get our bodies right and get ready for the next one.”

Philadelphia 76ers individual player grades for the month of March

It is time to hand out the individual player grades for the month of March for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers had a solid month of March going 10-3 in the 13 games they played in the month and they only played three of those games with the services of MVP candidate Joel Embiid. The Sixers are continuing to play solid basketball as they continue their race to earn the top seed in the East.

They did stumble a bit toward the end of the month, but they are still sitting at the 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and they are just half a game back of the Brooklyn Nets for that top seed. This is something that will go down to the wire and April promises to be a wild month for both teams.

With that said, as has been the case for the other months of the season, it is time to give out the grades for the month of March for each player:

Mike Scott says there is more to come from Tobias Harris for Sixers

Philadelphia 76ers veteran Mike Scott says there is more to come from Tobias Harris as the season continues.

The Philadelphia 76ers are still sitting atop the Eastern Conference and they are playing some pretty good basketball despite losing Joel Embiid to a bone bruise on March 12. The team is 6-1 since his injury and the one loss came in overtime to a tough Milwaukee Bucks team.

They have been that successful mostly due to the fact that Tobias Harris continues to take steps forward. In the seven games since the big fella went down, Harris is averaging 23.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists while shooting 50.4% from the floor and 47.6% from deep. He has been terrific when the Sixers need him the most.

However, Philadelphia believes that he can give even more to this team as the season continues.

“He’s been great,” said veteran Mike Scott. “I still think he was an All-Star, he’s All-NBA this year. He deserves it. Still not done. That’s my guy, all the success is starting to come. He’s put the time in as well. Like I said, more to come.”

(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/d8b9c085-4226-44f1-8495-36ad4e2aa62d”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

Harris was snubbed from the All-star game despite having a career season for the top team in the Eastern Conference and it is clear that it is still bothering him. He has continued to take big steps forward and the Sixers are reaping the benefits of his improvements.

He has also been a big reason why Philadelphia has been able to close games out recently without Embiid. Harris has been able to lead the group and his play has helped the team with their execution down the stretch of games. that was not there in the past.

“Execution on both ends, big plays,” said Scott. “We kind of got to stop letting teams back into it. That will be better than giving people heart attacks, but execution on both ends has been much better.”

The Sixers will continue the road trip on Saturday against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center.

Joel Embiid, Doc Rivers praise Sixers bench for performance vs. Jazz

Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers react to the bench unit stepping up against the Utah Jazz in a win.

The Philadelphia 76ers were able to come away with a 131-123 overtime victory over the Utah Jazz thanks to the huge performances from Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris. The tandem was terrific down the stretch of the game and they were able to help the Sixers come away with a win.

However, they would not have been in that position if the bench unit did not provide a big spark in the second half.

“I thought the bench turned the game around in the third quarter,” said coach Doc Rivers. “Dwight (Howard), that whole group made a run cut it to one, and then we brought our starters in to close it out.”

Rivers turned to an all-bench lineup of Shake Milton, Furkan Korkmaz, Matisse Thybulle, Mike Scott, and Howard to start the fourth quarter down by five points. The lineup was terrible in the first half, but they were huge in the fourth quarter in helping Philadelphia get back in the game.

“They were huge,” said Embiid. “They did that the last game too. They kept us in it. We were actually behind as a starting 5 and they came in and they did their job.”

Howard was a big reason for that run in the fourth. He knocked down a triple over Rudy Gobert early in the quarter and he then stripped Gobert on the other end which led to a hook shot. The 17-year veteran was turning back the clock a bit.

“That was really encouraging,” said Rivers. “We actually went into the game thinking Dwight would play lower minutes and we would play Mike a lot at the 5 against Gobert, but Dwight played so well, we were able to play our normal five, which was big.”

After the bench unit finished off their work, the starters came in and they were able to close the deal and pick up an impressive victory. Embiid made sure he called out the bench unit all by name.

“Dwight, Shake, Furkan, Matisse, Mike, they all came in they all gave us a lot of lift and great energy,” said the big fella. “It was our job to finish it.”

The Sixers now go into the All-Star break sitting atop the Eastern Conference.
