Prediction

Texas A&M 37, Oklahoma State 34

Moneyline (ML)

Texas A&M beat all of its inferior opponents, with all five losses coming against teams ranked no worse than No. 8 at the time. Hence the Aggies sit as the heavy favorites at -264. That makes the Cowboys at +205 an intriguing option. While I believe the Aggies will win outright, I expect a close game — close enough that taking a shot at more than doubling your money with Oklahoma State may be worth a small bet.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Oklahoma State returns a profit of $20.50.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Texas A&M is favored at -6.5 (-125) and is 7-5 ATS this season. But Oklahoma State has been even better, going 9-3 ATS. With two offenses that can score points and defenses that will give up points, this should be back-and-forth. I think that makes the Aggies winning by at least a touchdown too tall an order. Take the COWBOYS +6.5 (+105).

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is set at 53.5 points — a touchdown lower than the average total in Oklahoma State games, but a point higher than the average Texas A&M total. While neither team consistently hit the over in their games this season (Texas A&M games went over the total only four times and Oklahoma State’s games did five times), this is bound to be a high-scoring game. Last year’s Texas Bowl was a 45-38 thriller. Hit the OVER 53.5 (-115) in this matchup.

Final game grades, report card for Oklahoma-Oklahoma State

Oklahoma appeared to dominate Bedlam, and that was the case after the rewatch. Here are our final grades and report card from the game.

As Lincoln Riley says, “The game is never as good as you thought, and it’s not going to be as bad.”

On first glance, Oklahoma dominated this game from the second-quarter on in the trenches and made life extremely tough for Chuba Hubbard and the Oklahoma State defensive front.

After every game, Sooners Wire’s Kegan Reneau will rewatch and provide his final thoughts before moving on to the next one.

Here are the grades for the unit and the grades for individuals who ended up on the stat sheet or were noticeable for Oklahoma. These grades reflect how the Sooners played on that game indicative of the perception Reneau expects them to play.

QUARTERBACK — B

Jalen Hurts — B

About as solid of a game as Oklahoma needed its QB1 to play.

Took what the defense gave him, read Riley’s read concepts perfectly and didn’t give the ball away.

The Sooners will need more out of Jalen Hurts if they want to win a national championship, but you can’t complain about this performance.

RUNNING BACK —  A+

Kennedy Brooks — A+
Rhamondre Stevenson — A

Kennedy Brooks has a different running style than the past great running backs at Oklahoma, but man, is his vision, patience and ability to understand blocks in front of him is unparalleled. Probably since Joe Mixon and before that since the early 2000s Oklahoma had a running back with the vision Brooks has.

Stevenson came in like a wrecking ball. Figuratively and literally.

H-BACK — B+

Jeremiah Hall — B+
Brayden Willis — B+

The blocking done by these two may be the most underrated aspects of their game.

WIDE RECEIVER — B

CeeDee Lamb — C+
Charleston Rambo — B-
Nick Basquine — B+

Not a lot of opportunity for the wide receivers in this game, but they made the most of them. Thought Nick Basquine’s catches were big.

TIGHT END — B+

Lee Morris — B+

Lee Morris remains one of the steadiest forces Oklahoma has.

OFFENSIVE LINE — B+

This offensive line is close.

So close.

They took shape of what the 2017 and 2018 offensive lines looked like. Creed Humphrey, and specifically Marquis Hayes, are starting to become dominant forces at center and left guard. R.J. Proctor’s starting to trend in the right direction. The offensive line is coming around at the right time.

OFFENSE — 87

I believe this is my highest offensive grade of the year and for good measure. The Sooners got everything they wanted and then some against a defense that started to play better towards the end of the season. Now if they add on the vertical passing game …

NOSE TACKLE — B-

Neville Gallimore — B-
Marquise Overton — B-
Dillon Faamatau — N/A

Solid performance from these two. Did no harm.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE — B

LaRon Stokes — B

Didn’t show up on the stat sheet, but LaRon Stokes played a major role in Chuba Hubbard being deterred from hitting running lanes.

DEFENSIVE END — B+

Ronnie Perkins — B+
Marcus Stripling — N/A

Ronnie Perkins continues to flash his NFL-like potential.

RUSH — A

Nik Bonitto — A
David Ugwoegbu — A

Some of the stars of the show Saturday night were two young pups that flashed star potential. Ability to set the edge and also make plays in coverage and in the backfield loomed large.

WILL — C+

DaShaun White — C+
Caleb Kelly — C+

A lot of the same here. Didn’t notice them too much, but these two didn’t hurt the cause.

MIKE — B-

Kenneth Murray — B-

Some flashes, some over-pursuits.  Still feel like Murray has one more monster game left in him.

CORNER — B

Tre Brown — D+
Parnell Motley — A
Jaden Davis — B

If it weren’t for Tre Brown’s play, this position group would have been in the upper B, lower A range. Parnell Motley is playing himself into the NFL draft and Jaden Davis missed a couple tackles, but ultimately played well.

NICKELBACK — B

Brendan Radley-Hiles — B

Bookie was everywhere and really seems to be getting comfortable at the nickel spot.

SAFETY — C+

Pat Fields — B
Delarrin Turner-Yell — C

So these two split the cause. Turner-Yell struggled in coverage, but Patrick Fields was a factor in the run game. Not a bad, but not a great performance.

DEFENSE — 82

Nothing flashy, but Oklahoma’s defense was the determining factor Saturday night and it came from solid performances across the board. Just a complete performance from the top, down.

It’s backwards but I love the effort on a solid history joke.

Weird but it checks out, I guess.

I need meat judging season tickets.

NO TURNOVERS TONIGHT!

Parnell Motley: player of the game

Go ahead and hand him the Thorpe award? Sure.

Dan Wolken? More like Dan WOKE-n

Jalen Redmond absent from Oklahoma warmups prior to Oklahoma State game

Looks as if Oklahoma will be without one of its young rising defensive lineman. One of the Sooners defensive lineman is missing in warmups.

Looks as if Oklahoma will be without one of its young rising defensive lineman.

As the Sooners took the field for warmups ahead of its in-state rivalry matchup with Oklahoma State, redshirt freshman defensive end Jalen Redmond is not on the field with the team.

Redmond, a Midwest City, Oklahoma, native, made his second career start against TCU a week ago. He has 16 total tackles on the season, which includes seven tackles for loss and four sacks.

It was unclear if he was going to start tonight.

With Redmond out, JUCO transfer LaRon Stokes Jr. will have to step in and start. He has made 12 total tackles on the season, which includes 4.5 tackles for loss and half a sack. True freshman Kori Roberson has also played at the same position.

Redmond’s status is unknown as no announcement from Oklahoma football has been made.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will kickoff at Bedlam at 7 p.m. CT on FOX.

Wind will play a factor in Oklahoma-Oklahoma State (Bedlam)

The iconic lyric from the Rogers and Hammerstein classic OKLAHOMA! will play true tonight between the state’s two biggest football programs.

Oklahoma! Where the wind comes sweeping down the plain!

According to the National Weather Service a hazardous weather outlook is currently in affect for the majority of Oklahoma due to strong westerly winds.

Air temperatures will be pleasant with a high of 62 and a low of 32. It will feel much colder with consistent winds of 15 to 25 mile per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour from the West and Northwest are expected throughout much of the state, putting Stillwater in the middle of the crosshairs.

Bedlam has had iconic weather games in it’s one hundred and thirteen editions, including the “Ice Bowl” in 1985. More recently in 2013, Bedlam was contested in a 12 degree air temp with a wind chill nearing below zero.

So far this season the Sooners have yet to have played in any abnormal weather that could heavily affect Oklahoma’s passing and kicking game. Coaches can simulate rain in practice by dunking balls into water before every snap, however they can’t simulate wind.

With any kick or long pass, the air may be taken out of Boone Pickens Stadium completely with the fans inside gasping while the ball is at the will of Mother Nature.

Sooners’ freshman kicker, Gabe Brkic is perfect so far on both PATs (41/41) and field goals (12/12) with the longest coming from 50 yards. Brkic has also booted 47 of 88 kickoffs for touchbacks.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State kickoff at 7 p.m. CT on FOX.

The 3 biggest matchups in Oklahoma-Oklahoma State

Three matchups will decide Bedlam. Here are the three biggest matchups in Oklahoma’s game against Oklahoma State.

It’s Bedlam.

No. 7 Oklahoma (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) has had a lackluster last four games, but came out victorious in the last three. No. 21 Oklahoma State (8-3, 5-3) is starting to hit its stride after season-ending injuries to star receiver Tylan Wallace and rising quarterback Spencer Sanders.

Again, the Sooners are in a must win situation if they want to play in the College Football Playoff and will need to win in style.

Here are three biggest matchups in Bedlam between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

NEVILLE GALLIMORE VS. JOHNNY WILSON

As the season continues to head to its end, Neville Gallimore’s production and impact continues to be felt.

A lot like the Texas game, the matchup between Gallimore and Oklahoma State center Johnny Wilson is the biggest one of the day. The senior nose tackle single-handily dominated Texas’ front that day, including center Zach Shackleford.

How Johnny Wilson deals with Gallimore will be the difference between having rushing lanes up the middle big enough for Hubbard to make cuts through and in, and will eventually be the biggest matchup in this game.

OKLAHOMA SAFETIES VS. CHUBA HUBBARD

Yes—safeties against a running back.

Hubbard has hurt a ton of defenses hitting cutback lanes and in outside zone concepts. Patrick Fields, Delarrin Turner-Yell and Brendan ‘Bookie’ Radley-Hiles will be stressed in the running game will need to continue to build on how they played against TCU a week ago.

Hubbard only needs a smidge of open grass to take a small run to the house, and Oklahoma’s safeties will need to be on their A-game against Oklahoma State’s latest running back superstar.

OKLAHOMA VS. THEMSELVES

It’s been a couple weeks since I have added this here, but it needs to be brought back up.

If Oklahoma doesn’t turn the ball over at the rate it has the last four games, this team is likely seen as one of the contenders in college football.

Yes, the Sooners slipped up in Manhattan, Kansas, but they have looked dominant in every facet of the game in spite of turning the ball over.
