It isn’t clear yet what role Groh will have in the Colts coaching staff. They are looking for a defensive line coach, but that isn’t Groh’s area of expertise. We might not know in what capacity Groh will be working until the Colts announce the hire officially.

Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL radio broke the news while Joel A. Erickson of IndyStar confirmed it on Saturday.

When Reich was the offensive coordinator for the Eagles during their Super Bowl season in 2017, Groh was the wide receivers coach. When Reich took the head coach job with the Colts, Groh was promoted to be the offensive coordinator.

However, following the Eagles’ playoff loss against the Seattle Seahawk, Groh was fired as the offensive coordinator.

It will be interesting to see what role Groh will have, but it seems the Colts will continue to tweak their coaching staff.

Taylor, 32, is the Brother of Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, and of one of the hot names in NFL circles in regards to innovative offensive schemes.

According to McManus, Taylor is highly respected among Eagles brass and has an “advocate” in starting quarterback Carson Wentz, who has worked with him since being drafted in 2016.

With Taylor now being a presumed favorite, here are four takeaways from the news he interviewed for the job.

The Eagles may have had an interest in several candidates including Kevin O’Connell who took the OC job with the Los Angeles Rams. James Urban remained with the Baltimore Ravens; Graham Harrell, who is said to have interviewed with the Eagles’, decided to return to USC, while Andy Reid wouldn’t allow Mike Kafka to leave the Kansas City Chiefs.

Josh McCown is still looking to play.

There are still coaching vacancies available around the NFL and with the conference championship games scheduled for Sunday, some interesting names could get phone calls on Monday.

Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Eagles have interest in Chiefs quarterbacks coach and Andy Reid disciple, Mike Kafka.

The former Eagles backup quarterback is expected to receive an interview request from the Eagles, but Andy Reid has the opportunity to block the interview request, especially if Kafka isn’t going to call the offensive plays.

Regardless of who the offensive coordinator is, Doug Pederson prefers to call his own offensive plays. Kafka was rumored to be waiting on current OC Eric Bieniemy to get a head coaching job.

With Bieniemy shut out of the coaching carousel, Kafka may choose to move on.

Eagles interviewing Southern Cal OC Graham Harrell for vacant OC spot

Southern Cal offensive coordinator Graham Harrell will interview with the Philadelphia Eagles for their vacant offensive coordinator job

The Philadelphia Eagles quest to name a new offensive coordinator now has the team exploring a top Pac 12 club’s passing game coordinator.

According to Jeff McLane of The Inquirer, the Eagles are set to interview Southern Call offensive coordinator, Graham Harrell.

USC had recently announced a three-year contract extension with Harrell, worth $1.2 million per season, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, after the former college and NFL quarterback turned down Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns.

Last season Harrell helped the Trojans rise from 63rd among FBS programs in offensive yards per play (5.77) in 2018 to 15th (6.61) in 2019.

Under Harrell, Southern Cal went from 91st in scoring offense (26.1 points) to 36th (33.2), and their passing offense ranked fifth nationally (335.9 yards per game) a year after being amongst the worst in college football.

Before landing at USC, Harrell was the offensive coordinator at North Texas and outside WR coach and offensive analyst at Washington St. under the new Mississpit State head coach, Mike Leach.

Eagles lose out on possible coaching additions as James Urban, Bobby Engram stay with the Ravens

James Urban, Bobby Engram to remain on Ravens coaching staff

The Philadelphia Eagles have openings for two offensive positions but according to Aaron Kasinitz via John Harbaugh, two Baltimore candidates have pulled their names and will remain with the Ravens.

Urban and Engram have both been linked to the Eagles over the past week, but the stability and success of the Raven’s programs seemed like too much for both coaches to pass up at this time.

Urban played a huge part in Lamar Jackson’s emergence in Baltimore and Michael Vick’s career resurrection when he joined the Eagles after getting out of prison.

Engram expressed interest in the Eagles wide receivers coaching job but has since reversed course.

Eagles have interest in Ravens QB coach James Urban as OC candidate

Eagles interested in James Urban as offensive coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles are in need of an offensive coordinator and one name that we’ve mentioned is now starting to get mutual interest back from the organization.

James Urban has played a huge part in the development of guys like Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, and the soon to be NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson. The Ravens quarterback coach has ties with Philadelphia and according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, there’s growing interest from the Eagles in Urban.

Jackson, the frontrunner for league MVP, has thrown for 3,127 yards while rushing for 1,206 yards.

Urban has been credited with Michael Vick’s career season in 2010.

Urban was hired during Jackson’s rookie season with the Ravens and has been credited with his jump in development from last season. He was the Bengals wide receivers coach during AJ Green’s most successful seasons and during his five seasons with then-Eagles head coach Andy Reid, he was responsible for improved play from both Vick and Donovan McNabb.

Former Giants coach Ben McAdoo could be an option for the Eagles as an OC

Philadelphia Eagles could have an interest in Ben McAdoo as offensive coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles are taking their time replacing Mike Groh as offensive coordinator, but Adam Schefter of ESPN.com believes one former coach of the Birds NFC East rival could fit the bill.

While appearing on 975 The Fanatic’s Farzetta and Tra In The Morning show on Wednesday, Schefter stated that McAdoo could be a name to watch in regards to the Eagles offensive coordinator opening.

“Ben McAdoo is out there,” Schefter said. “The Eagles, at one point in time, were actually interested in hiring him as a head coach. I think he’s ready to come back into the game as an offensive coordinator.”

Pederson is the play-caller in Philadelphia, so joining the Eagles would be the ultimate reputation rebuilder and the chance to have potential employers see his rebuilt image.

McAdoo was the head coach of the New York Giants for less than two full seasons and was removed in 2017 following a 2-10 start that saw Eli Manning’s streak of consecutive starts at quarterback come to an end.

Pederson could turn to Duce Staley or Press Taylor for the role, although Jim Caldwell is a name that has been thrown around the rumor mill.

With Eagles in need of an OC, LSU’s Joe Brady to accept Panthers job offer

Joe Brady to be hired as Panthers offensive coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles are in need of an innovative and fresh set of eyes for their franchise quarterback Carson Wentz. LSU just happens to have the best young play-caller in the business.

It’s unknown whether Joe Brady was a candidate for the Eagles offensive coordinator job, but according to Adam Schefter, Brady will be named the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator.

The 30-year-old Brady has prior NFL experience from his time with the Saints and he’s emerged as one of the hottest offensive play-callers on either level of big-time football.

Brady recently won the Broyles Award, given annually to the top assistant coach in the nation.

Top-ranked LSU led the nation with 564 total yards per game and was second in the country with 397 passing yards per game.

Under Brady, Joe Burrows improved dramatically, winning the Heisman Trophy and ascending to the likely No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
