A former Nebraska position coach has found a new job heading into the 2024 season. Mike Dawson will be joining the Kansas Jayhawks staff as a defensive analyst.

Dawson spent four seasons at Nebraska, coaching from 2018, 2019-22. He coached the defensive line in 2018, outside linebackers in 2020 and 2021, and edge rushers in 2022. He spent the 2019 season coaching with the New York Giants.

Before coming to Lincoln, he coached in the collegiate and professional ranks. He’s spent time with the Eagles, Boston College, Akron, and New Hampshire.

Dawson will be joining a Jayhawks defense that ranked No. 62 in the national in total defense. Kansas surrendered an average of 378.2 yards per game during the 2023 season.

Ohio State football set to hire analyst from Nebraska

The coaching staff just got stronger #GoBucks

After the [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] defense struggled toward the end of last season, head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] knew he needed to make some adjustments, including on the coaching staff.

Day poached former Buckeye great [autotag]James “Little Animal” Laurinaitis[/autotag] from Notre Dame to help with the linebackers. Now, he’s gone to a Big Ten program to take another one of their coaches.

According to a report by On3’s Sean Callahan, Ohio State will hire former Nebraska defensive line and linebackers coach [autotag]Mike Dawson[/autotag] as an analyst. With NFL and collegiate experience, Dawson looks like a great fit for the Buckeye defense.

With current defensive line coach Larry Johnson on the verge of retirement, Day very well might have put a succession plan in place. Time will tell, but adding someone who has had success at the highest level of football is a good thing.

Report: Giants part ways with three more assistant coaches

The New York Giants have parted ways with three more assistant coaches, including one that had survived since the Tom Coughlin era.

The purge of Pat Shurmur’s former New York Giants staff continued on Wednesday with news that outside linebackers coach Mike Dawson, defensive backs coach Everett Withers and offensive assistant Ryan Roeder will not return in 2020.

The trio join linebackers coach Bill McGovern, defensive line coach Gary Emanuel and assistant defensive backs coach Henry Baker as assistants who have been informed they will not return.

Tight ends coach Lunda Well also departed on Wednesday, joining the Dallas Cowboys in the same role.

Dawson and Withers joined Shurmur’s staff in February of 2019, while Roeder had been with the team since 2013, serving under Tom Coughlin, Ben McAdoo and then, of course, Shurmur.
