Kings coach Mike Brown was not happy with officials following his team’s 110-107 loss to the Miami Heat on Wednesday at FTX Arena. Brown made his feelings clear during his postgame news conference, saying he felt Heat guard Tyler Herro traveled before making a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds remaining. “We’ve got a lot of respect for the program, the Miami Heat, (coach Erik) Spoelstra and everything they’ve done, and Tyler Herro’s a great player, but he traveled,” Brown said. “He traveled on the last play and I would not be doing my job if I didn’t come up here and protect my guys. My guys fought their behind off for close to 48 minutes, and to (see Herro) pump fake and then sidestep, or hop and then one-two and a shot, and not make that call, to me it’s just unbelievable.” -via Sacramento Bee / November 3, 2022
HoopsHype: Steve Kerr on carries: “Basically the whole league does that. They’ve been doing it since Allen Iverson convinced the referees that it wasn’t a carry. What Jordan (Poole) does is a carry, but the whole league has been doing it.” pic.twitter.com/aBcuweZxuX -via Twitter @hoopshype / November 2, 2022
It was a ruling that did not sit well with Curry. “It was an awful call,” he said afterward with a smile of resignation. “What did you think I was going to say? I was walking to the free-throw line, thinking I was going to get three free throws and even the score with a minute and some change left.” But he also believed there was more than incidental “high-five” contact. “It was a tough one,” he said. “I clearly felt a lot of contact. I don’t know what they saw besides the high-five contact they talked about. But you got to be allowed to finish your motion. That’s what I felt like. “Especially when you slow it down to slo-mo, it’s pretty clear there was a lot of contact. But what do I know about calls?” -via South Florida Sun-Sentinel / November 2, 2022

Giannis’ real surname is Adetokunbo. “When you take another country’s passport, your name has to be spelled with their alphabet. So, in the D they put NT, and in the B they put MP. Jrue Holiday, Bucks explain what makes Sixers’ PJ Tucker so special

Jrue Holiday and the Milwaukee Bucks discuss what makes Philadelphia 76ers veteran PJ Tucker so special.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers made the move to bring in PJ Tucker via free agency to bring more toughness and solid play on both ends of the floor.

Tucker also brings intangibles one doesn’t see in a box score. He won a championship in 2021 with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was one win away from going back to the finals in 2022 with the Miami Heat. He understands what it takes to win. That is what he brings to teams.

Before the Bucks came away with a 90-88 win over the Sixers on Thursday, Bucks defensive star Jrue Holiday gave love to Tucker for what he brings to the floor.

“I think he’s a selfless guy,” said Holiday. “He’s a selfless basketball player. He’s literally the definition of an ultimate professional. If you need him to guard 1 through 5, he’ll do that. He might not touch the ball but two times a game and he’s OK with that. It’s all about winning and I feel like a lot of people don’t have that type of mentality.”

The Bucks acquired Tucker midway through the 2020-21 season to bolster their roster on their way to a title. He was a perfect fit next to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the rest of the roster considering what they like to do.

That is why he is so successful in this league.

“There’s a lot of things he brings to the table, but his competitive spirit,” added Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer. “His toughness is unique and very, very special. He’s a high-level defender, loves to take the toughest matchup every night. He takes a lot of pride, great communicator on defense, he brings a toughness to your team that’s important, and I have a ton of respect for PJ.”

Tucker helped Milwaukee end a 50-year title drought. He now looks to help Philadelphia win its first title since 1983.

Darvin Ham: Man, it was an awesome …

Darvin Ham: Man, it was an awesome thing. Being able to coach with Mike Budenholzer for the last nine years, since his first day as a head coach himself. He would always say, the timing, you can’t control the time and I’m a big spiritual guy. I believe in God wholeheartedly. A lot of times when you think you’re ready for something, God is like, hold on, it might not even be your preparation. That’s the concern. It’s, sometimes you can go into a messy environment as a good coach. And that doesn’t reflect well, if you get all of the blame on you. So you have to be careful when you’re doing your due diligence because it’s really a two-way street.

Darvin Ham: And getting that call from …

Darvin Ham: And getting that call from Rob Pelinka and having Jeannie Buss and Tim Harris all those guys over there to let the Lakers Lakers brass pinpoint me as being the guy who they felt confident in and leading this next wave, this next charge toward a championship. It was very, very humbling man, very humbling. I actually felt prepared because again, having gone through the cycle, like that was my 10th interview. So having essentially interviewed with one-third of the league and sitting next to the guy sitting next to him coach Bud and his biggest attribute as a coach, in my opinion, is his preparation. So having all of those tools and then having been forced to be patient, it was a totally fulfilling

Ham, who told reporters that Westbrook …

Ham, who told reporters that Westbrook has a ton left in the tank during his introductory press conference on June 6, already has an idea of how he can get the best out of the one-time MVP. “I think the style of play we’re going to have, you know, all of those guys — not only just Russ but LeBron, AD — they’re going to be able to share the load,” Ham said. “And one thing I mentioned to Russ is the way I’m built, the success I’ve seen — especially most recently in the last nine years and the last four years being with Coach Bud in Milwaukee, also in Atlanta, but in Milwaukee — one thing we always preached and will continue to preach to be our foundation of our teams is a defensive mindset, being able to defend at a high level.
