The Warriors’ analytics staff has put …

The Warriors’ analytics staff has put together a defensive metric for each player. It’s a muddled formula that takes into account performance in isolation settings, how well you hold your assignment above or below his normal shooting average and some other defensive factors, spitting out a number for every player that can be improved or hurt depending on performance. Brown makes everybody’s number public. The entire team knows who is doing well and who isn’t, who is improving and who is slipping. He’s direct. He will call you out in film, backed by his boisterous on-court leader. “Mike Brown challenged everyone,” Green said.

Mike Brown, Zac Taylor comment on Bengals’ high vaccination rate

Mike Brown provided an update on his Bengals this week.

The Cincinnati Bengals say they have hit the 90 percent threshold in terms of player vaccinations ahead of training camp, while the entire surrounding staff is fully vaccinated.

Or written another way, the Bengals are back to mostly normal operating procedure after meeting guidelines set by the NFL.

Monday, Bengals coach Zac Taylor commented on his team’s progress in this area, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:

“Our players have done a great job. We are 90 percent in the process of being fully vaccinated. Really, two weeks from now there’s another 10 that will be considered fully vaccinated. We are in a good spot. We have had great conversations with all these guys and proud of the way they have attacked it and communicated it. They have allowed us to be put in a really good position to be as normal as possible going forward.”

Bengals president Mike Brown took a collabrotative tone as well when discussing how he handled things with his players and staff:

“I’d like to get it up to a full 100 percent. But people have to agree to do this. We’re not compelling them to do it. We’re asking them to do it. We’re trying to convince them to do it and we’re making good progress at that … I like to think we could work through this cooperatively … I’m aware of it and probably that’s what they wanted. They wanted us to take notice and that might incentive us to do the things we need to do to give us the best chance to have a complete season.”

We knew the Bengals were doing really well on this front because Taylor went as far as calling off a minicamp early last month. Locker room leader Jessie Bates hinted it had something to do with the team’s high vaccination rate.

Besides getting back to normal operating procedure for training camp and the preseason, the high rate will play a role in the Bengals combating the league’s memo that detailed forfeits and lack of paychecks for teams that cause cancelled games.

In at least this area, the Bengals nearly stand alone as an example to the rest of the league.

Mike Brown: Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor trilogy ‘potentially will be the biggest pay-per-view of all time’

Mike Brown thinks Dustin Poirier opting to fight Conor McGregor is absolutely the right choice.

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – [autotag]Mike Brown[/autotag] thinks [autotag]Dustin Poirier[/autotag] opting to fight [autotag]Conor McGregor[/autotag] is absolutely the right choice.

Poirier, who cemented himself as the No. 1 contender to the UFC lightweight title when he knocked out McGregor in their rematch at UFC 257, decided to settle their rivalry in a trilogy bout rather than taking an immediate shot at gold.

It’s a choice that his head coach Brown thinks is the better move for his career, considering the magnitude of the fight.

“Yeah, this is the right choice,” Brown told MMA Junkie. “Conor is the biggest draw in this sport, and I think this well sell more pay-per-views than any other fight. This potentially will be the biggest pay-per-view of all time. It really has that capability, and it probably will. I believe that, and the title fight will always be there after.

“He’s still getting better all the time, and another guy who has paid his dues more than anyone. These are the guys that took the long road, the guys that deserve it more than anybody.”

As a result, the promotion set up a vacant lightweight title fight between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler in the UFC 262 main event this past weekend, where Oliveira was crowned champion when he stopped Chandler in Round 2. Oliveira is now projected to meet the winner of the Poirier vs. McGregor rubber match, which headlines UFC 264 on July 10 in Las Vegas.

Brown has the utmost confidence that Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) will get the job done against McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) again. While the calf kicks were a major factor in Poirier’s ability to hinder McGregor’s movement, Brown thinks “The Diamond” has multiple ways to win.

“I think Conor believes that the calf kicks is what really was the major problem, but it wasn’t the calf kicks that knocked him out,” Brown said. “So I like where we’re sitting in this fight, and I’m very confident going into it.

“The fight game is very complex. This is one weapon of potentially thousands or more. We’re talking about one weapon there. Dustin has got a lot of them.”

Report: Warriors assistant Mike Brown had head coaching interview with Los Angeles Clippers

Mike Brown has had a busy offseason. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Golden State Warriors assistant interviewed for the Los Angeles Clippers head coaching job.

It’s been a busy offseason for one member of Steve Kerr’s Golden State Warriors coaching staff.

Since the Warriors ended their season in March, assistant coach Mike Brown has interviewed for two vacant head coaching positions.

Prior to their hiring of Tom Thibodeau, Brown had an interview with the New York Knicks. Following his interview in The Big Apple, Golden State’s associate head coach interviewed for the Indiana Pacers opening.

With more teams freeing up head coaching positions, Brown’s series of interviews isn’t over yet. On Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Brown had a head coaching interview with the Los Angeles Clippers “in recent days.”

Via @wojespn on Twitter:

Although Doc Rivers’ run to the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers decided to move on from the veteran coach after his squad was bounced in the second round of the playoffs.

Before joining Kerr’s staff in Golden State, Brown served as a head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers. In eight years as a head coach, Brown filed a 347-216 overall record. After punching a 66-16 record with LeBron James and the Cavaliers in 2009, Brown was named NBA Coach of the Year.

When Kerr had to leave the bench due to a back injury in 2017, Brown filled in as the Warriors acting head coach. Brown helped push the Warriors to a 12-0 record in the postseason. Kerr rejoined Brown on the bench for the Warriors NBA Finals victory over the Cavaliers in five games.

Brown’s path to the Clippers coaching position won’t be easy, as Los Angeles assistant Tyronn Lue is in a “strong position” to land the job, per Wojnarowski.

If he does stick in Los Angeles, Brown will have to compete with Kerr and the Warriors in the race to the top of the Western Conference.

Report: Warriors assistant Mike Brown interviewing for Indiana Pacers head coach opening

After adding former player Leandro Barbosa to the bench last week, the Golden State Warriors coaching staff could be in line for another change.

After adding former player Leandro Barbosa to the bench last week, the Golden State Warriors coaching staff could be in line for another change.

Following the exit of Nate McMillan, the Indiana Pacers are looking for a new head coach. McMillan was fired after the Miami Heat eliminated the Pacers in four games during the Eastern Conference Playoffs opening round.

In their search to find a new coach, the Pacers will bring in a member of Steve Kerr’s staff for an interview. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Golden State Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown will interview for the Pacers vacant position.

Via @wojespn on Twitter:

From 2003-2005, Brown served as an associate head coach on Rick Carlise’s staff in Indiana.

Prior to their hiring of Tom Thibodeau, Brown interviewed for the New York Knicks head coaching opening.

Before he came to the Bay Area, Brown served as a head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers in his 23-year basketball coaching career. In eight seasons as a head coach, Brown tallied a 347-216 (.616%) record at the helm.

On his way to leading the Cavaliers to a franchise-best 66-16 record in 2009, Brown earned the honor of NBA Coach of the Year.

Brown filled in as Golden State’s acting head coach when Kerr had to leave his mark due to a back injury. With the Warriors head coach out, Brown drew up plays for Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant.

With Brown in for Kerr, Golden State ripped off 12 consecutive victories in the 2017 edition of the NBA Postseason. During his time with Golden State, Brown gained a pair of championship rings.

Since 2015, Alvin Gentry and Luke Walton have left Kerr’s coaching staff for head coaching positions.
